  1. Maybe you could ask Grant or Richard about that? That would end all speculation and maybe offering a "lossless" source too. Interestingly I came across the album "Insect And Individual Silenced" by Nurse With Wound recently, which was sourced from LP after the masterfiles were destroyed back after release 1981. That rip sounds awesome- no crackle nor surface noise can be heard on the new editions. I guess the best would be to clean the record very carefully (there should be options out there, in Hamburg is one professional record cleaner at least) and reduce the amount of any surface/crackle noise to zero. Wonder if a good rip could be made by D&M Berlin?? Don't worry - Richard, Rephlex and myself are NOT going to allow a sub-par sounding rip out there - it will be the best possible quality! I understand everyone's concerns, but rest assured when I say it will sound the best it possibly can. Funny how the pages of this thread seem to be keeping in line with the Kickstarter numbers - 48 pages, almost 48K
  2. The conditions of the agreement were to rip it from the vinyl - most likely, the DAT is either not available, or when the test pressing was struck, the source(s) were compiled then, and do not exist as a cohesive, singular DAT (speculation on my part). The record will not go up on Ebay before the Kickstarter ends and is funded.
  3. You're the type who worries that all four of their tyres might blow out, and you carry extra spares, aren't you? I am sure if the other test pressings came out OK, this one did too - plus, I am sure there would be a contingency plan put into motion for that - after all, this is the label we're dealing with here - not as if we don't have resources available to us.
  4. Yeah, I noticed that too - I'll probably reach out to them just so they understand they need to contribute at least 16.00 to get a digital copy.
  5. The excess money from the sale is going to Richard/Rephlex (see FAQ on the first page) and the sale of the record afterwards is going to charity ( http://forum.watmm.com/topic/83062-which-charity-should-get-the-proceeds-of-the-ebay-sale/ ) at this rate, it seems like theres enough surplus value for each backer to earn a profit init? The once-proposed rerun to backers was from the Ebay auction sale, not the Kickstarter.
  6. Why do you keep going on about that? That was a coworker's picture I posted as a laugh, and his name WAS Gerald!
  7. The excess money from the sale is going to Richard/Rephlex (see FAQ on the first page) and the sale of the record afterwards is going to charity ( http://forum.watmm.com/topic/83062-which-charity-should-get-the-proceeds-of-the-ebay-sale/ ) Originally it seemed like a good idea because there would only be 600 backers - when we agreed to remove that restriction so more people could get it, that part quickly became non-viable. It will go 1/2 charity 1/2 Rephlex/Richard most likely.
  8. even though Kickstarter approved the project, and people that work for Kickstarter have pledged to this project themselves? Yeah it's clearly not that big of a deal. I just think that it's a more legitimate concern than others. How's it "supposed to work" then? Not quite sure what your point is here.
  9. You are honestly thinking too much into it... there never was any "plan" behind this... the guy wanted to sell his copy, he got permission from Rephlex, and put it on Discogs - when I approached them with this idea, none of that changed, and I highly doubt they predicted the fans would jump up and crowdfund the whole thing, and that it would raise this much money, etc. When you think about it, Richard stands to make probably what he/Rephlex made off of most of their releases if they pressed 2000 or so vinyl copies... of course, there's no duplication/distribution costs, or administrative fees in this (other than the hosting and the digital transfer), but those are much smaller than a traditional release, I would imagine. So this is hardly some huge windfall for Richard... this is probably average what he and Rephlex made off a release (this is speculation on my part... I have no proof or hard numbers to back it up).
  10. 2 of them have appeared on compilations and 1 of them was bootlegged from a live set. other than that no leaked copies of the actual album exist Mike P. played an excerpt from one of the other tracks in his Electronic Explorations set 4 years ago. Edit: It's being mixed out of the Monolith track about 2 minutes into this: http://www.mixcloud.com/mikep/mike-paradinas-2009-electronic-explorations-mix/ That track is 'king awesome. Guess I need to fill in the gaps in my afx collection (all of Analord and that other Caustic Window album I just saw on Amazon). That other unreleased AFX track is slammin' too - I wonder where that one is from...?
  11. I'm already looking into Bandcamp; the only thing they don't offer is email-linked download codes. We'd also go Bandcamp Pro if we were to use them. where did you find that? I saw someone else mention it in the thread but could find no name on the discogs listing*basic sleuthing*
  12. Why, ..would it influence the sound? Or do you mean more in a philosophical sense, keeping it as pure as possible to the original. DRM watermarking is wrong. I'm not going to explain here why DRM is wrong. If there is any plan for DRM to be included in the files, I will be rescinding my pledge. although it does seem that the subject was broached and has been shot down... It was never a requirement to get this done, just in case anyone is assuming such...
  13. Probably... it would need to be a "submit your questions and Richard will choose from them" type situation...
  14. I think watermarking is something we absolutely should not be doing I really hope no-one involved in this is seriously thinking about doing this? It was discussed, but ultimately I'm against it - I mean, why? Other than publicly shaming the person, there's really nothing punitive you can do.
  15. It would be naive to think otherwise, but the intention was/is to ensure folks have the opportunity to show their support, knowing that they will contribute towards the release and feel like they made it happen. The fact that the kickstarter has wildly exceeded anyone's expectations is the best outcome of all (short of receiving the actual end product, of course), as it demonstrates that people are prepared to pay for something, even when they could just obtain it easily for free. The old ways of the music industry that we've all known and grown up around may well be dying on their arse, but this heralds an interesting new method of how music can be paid for and distributed to the public. I'm not saying every future new release potentially promoted in this way is going to achieve the dizzy heights of a decades-old release from RDJ, with all the excitement that comes with it.. but it poses an interesting stepping point for how to get music out there, and ultimately a better way to reward an artist more directly than ever before. Exactly - if an artist or label could crowdfund their releases, not only does more money go to the artist (and can control how much of that money they get), but it gets the fans involved far beyond just making a purchase. I'm almost certainly going to use Kickstarter to fund a WATMM Volume 2 - who knows, we could have a vinyl stretch goal, etc. - the possibilities are endless. A "AATA", if it were? Who knows... Can I have my YouTube 30 seconds I watched back? Please?
  16. Moral arguments aside, you can't really call it stupid. It's the smartest thing to do - why pay money for something when you can get it for free? That's the opposite of stupid. Whether it's the "right" thing to do, however, is a question of morals, not intelligence. I see your point (and had that mindset at one time), but honestly, it's easier (in most cases) to pay for something legitimately instead of waiting until it's pirated (for me)...
  17. Yeah... kinda stupid, really - why not just pay the 16.00 and get it? Oh, right, it's cool to steal and not pay for something... or some "principle" of not paying for something like this, etc.
  18. At this point I have three facilities I am considering (two recommended by Grant - guys who were originally part of the "Porky Prime Cuts" crew, and the outfit x_y politics recommended - it's looking likely we'll end up using the x_y politics recommended one (Grant is impressed by his equipment/setup). 19. At this point, it's likely that the seller will get his negotiated price he asked for, and minus the costs to host and distribute the tracks and the costs to professional transfer this from vinyl, the rest goes to Rephlex/Richard. Of course, this is subject to change, and there are a lot of things in flux right now, so rest assured an official statement will be forthcoming once we iron everything out (what complicates this is the possibility of a CD or vinyl pressing, etc.) Just too much right now to say since I don't think anybody anticipated this kind of response.
  20. I don't think Richard has any doubts (even before this) anything he released would sell well...
  21. I feel like this a lot of the time. I would love to destroy what little faith I have left in humanity... please link the thread(s). Well, a skeptical (but polite) friend messaged me. He also sent me this: http://www.reddit.com/r/electronicmusic/comments/22q4xs/aphex_twins_unheard_caustic_window_lp_is_going_to/ I only use reddit for AMAs I care about. This is why I avoid it. That's not too bad... compared to say the hateful ignorance over at xlt, or the insane amounts of butthurt over at Fred's Island for Misfit Toys™... Super LOL @ the guy who wants 'proof' - does he really think I would stick my neck out like this to publically scam 90% of my own forum members? How some people think...
  22. I was suggesting Rephlex do the pressing since, you know, it's their label and all. Deliver the excess cash to Rephlex if they agree to finally release it on wax for the masses. Yeah, no way I would undertake that without getting paid - that's a hell of a lot of work. Plus, I highly doubt Rephlex would go for that. We'll see though - 29 days to go! *falls over into potted plant*

  24. I'm just speechless... really. This is insane. Super happy, but super tired - you have no idea how much time this eats up! I'm going to try and get the FAQ on Kickstarter set up today, but in short: Yes, this will be sent to a professional outfit for conversion - I *think* we might have enough to cover those costs now. A lot of people are asking about the excess funds - the bandwidth/delivery costs could potentially be in the 1000's, so we are evaluating options right now. I cannot change the funding date for the Kickstarter (I wanted to reduce it to two weeks so people would get their music sooner), but alas I cannot. If we can deliver the digital files sooner, than by all means we will (but not before May 10, which is when the KS ends). More as things develop - enjoy the crazy ride for now, and a HUGE thanks to everyone who has not only supported WATMM over the years, but everyone who believed in this project. *crawls under desk to get some sleep*
