  1. here's the wapo story about US intel struggling to get trump to take covid seriously U.S. intelligence reports from January and February warned about a likely pandemic https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/us-intelligence-reports-from-january-and-february-warned-about-a-likely-pandemic/2020/03/20/299d8cda-6ad5-11ea-b5f1-a5a804158597_story.html
  2. breaking now: senator rand paul tests positive. here he is at GOP lunch on friday here's mitt romney saying he may self quarantine this as the senate trying to finish stimulus legislation and... now word emerges paul was in the senate pool and gym this morning
  3. taste and smell mentioned in this thread
  4. was just thinking the NTS sessions make good pandemic music so hype for onesix
  5. maddow, msnbc flagship, calls on networks, including her own, to stop live broadcasting trump press conferences, because he is actually behaving like a compulsive liar throughout this, and spreading harmful misinformation. and she's right.
  6. ^ yeah. we went from 1 case globally to around 300,000 in about 3 months. by simple extrapolation we see the next 3 months - with NO adjustment - reaching billions. but we're bending the curve so it will just be... hundreds of millions? tens of millions infected in 3 months would mean we have improved the rate quite a bit? 262,144 is the 18th number in the binary sequence. that means you start at 1, multiply by 2, and keep hitting enter 18 times on your calculator. what's the doubling time of total cases, with this virus? data here says 8 days, globally. the 30th number in the binary sequence is around a billion. so if we are 12 doublings away from a billion cases, and it doubles in 8 days, that's 96 days. btw we're just talking numbers of KNOWN cases
  7. it's because we perpetuated a culture of unserious information handling and people are not equipped to figure out what is real. if anyone wants to address the root problem, study logical debate, and participate in its spread, which is the inevitable adaptation to the modern world. engage in arguments.
  8. ny bracing for hospital crush. thank god for cuomo. son of a governor, he lived his whole life preparing for this. live now but you can rewind to the beginning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIiznoNxlCg
  9. ^ man. food stores are scary. i'm actually thinking i will set an alarm for 4 am and go to the 24 hour store. hypertension is included in at least some lists of conditions correlated with severe symptoms from covid. overweight only correlated for people who are seriously overweight. play it smart, man. make smart moves. stay safe. resource of info for conditions correlated with severe symptoms.
  10. wasnt it you who said you got a cyberpunk mask? use that shit also btw wiping shit down shit from the outside world is looking like it's not a bad idea... especially in the bad areas
  11. i disagree. the explicit content of spiral's post included the following contracting the virus is inevitable he tells that to people using sanitizer spiral then projects an obviously incorrect rationale onto his coworkers, the idea that sanitizer will grant them absolute protection. obviously nobody thinks that. like not a single person on earth. so the only way to interpret it is as hyperbole, meaning that spiral's statement is aimed to deride the different but similar mentality that actually exists in reality, that using sanitizer helps. and no chen i'm not ok and yeah chen i am stressed. but we don't have time to tolerate goobers depositing harmful misinformation on this topic, and i think it is correct for me to set the example that we should not enable such frivolous information handling in these dire times. i think sometimes chastizement has a role to play and i think maybe this is one of those times.
  12. here's spiral's contribution, which we're discussing I kept saying that to people at work, sitting there with their newly bought spray bottle of disinfectant of their desks. They did not want to hear it. There's a weird 'If I wear alcohol gel like a crucifix around my neck it will protect me and I will never succumb' mentality seems to me like spiral was making a case against precautionary measures. characterizing sanitizer as a superstition is mocking
  13. oh right that's what he meant of course. ohhhh insightful. mind = blown. great musing. please more. he definitely wasn't mocking those people and their precautionary acts that could in reality save many lives but hey you're not accountable for your statements. no one will hold you to account so you can get away with saying things that will cost lives. make fun of me for caring about information and asserting that people are responsible for the info they put out there. fuck me.
  14. but yeah who gives a fuck. fuck it. let's go to the bar and get coronavirus and not sanitize our hands and make fun of people who do
  15. not the point I was making and Yah I know BUT OK you were deriding people taking precautionary measures... likely out of hopes of saving the lives of loved ones. just to clarify for everyone. any other toxic shit you got for us spi?
  16. well they're coming. army corps of engineers and national guard in some places seem likely, at least.
  17. raising awareness works. this is a job for us shit posters. when people realize what is happening, they care. there are number of things many people just don't know. helping people realize what's going on earlier than they otherwise would have has a profound impact, because of the exponential spread. cool animated thing on this wapo page illustrates exponential spread, and there are a few different versions of it. one with no intervention, one with wuhan-style forced quarantine, and one with 75% of the population practicing social distancing https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/world/corona-simulator/?fbclid=IwAR3ziPtGzrs_RQTXxBSVm3bQeZSgYECuAvOOkopy9uiG0EhO2E38TCvmrEA
  18. UK saying their population 80%, cuomo saying 40, 50, 60 percent. if 75% of the world population get coronavirus and 2% of them die, that's 112 million dead.
