The headphone jack in my phone finally stopped working. Granted it was crapping out for over a year, but now it's completely shot. So I'm gonna try using my 8-year-old HTC Desire as a backup music player. Hopefully it'll still work for that purpose. Because I'm too cheap to pay off another 2-year phone contract just to get a new phone with a functional jack.

I'm sure some of us remember that video of Eric Garner who was suffocated to death by police back in July of 2014 ("I can't breathe"). That video was recorded by his friend Ramsey Orta, who was then arrested for recording that video. https://www.theverge.com/2019/3/13/18253848/eric-garner-footage-ramsey-orta-police-brutality-killing-safety Apparently his first couple of months in jail the correctional officers continually harassed him and called him racial slurs, and tried to force him to eat food laced with rat poison. The article is a fairly lengthy read (about 25-30 min), but worthwhile if you have the time. It details not only the story of Orta, but how the US justice system in general is skewed to enable law enforcement to brutalize people of color. Granted this wasn't Orta's first scrape with the law, but you get the idea. -

I think the music video for this was when I first became aware of Michael Jackson. I was 6 and had a few questions. “Why doesn’t this lady have boobs?” “But how is that a guy?” “Ok...how is that a black guy?” These questions have still not been adequately answered. At this point, I think the best way to describe him is an enigma. I recall seeing most of Moonwalker when I was that age. Hell, that movie alone was basically an enigmatic projection of his ego. I think fame and stardom has a way of distorting certain people in such a way that they diverge from their original birth form to a point which is unrecognizable by childhood peers.

Correct. Shit, feels like ages ago. But it still has arguably the most aggressive percussion of any release. I still remember that transition in LCC when the track starts to break from the drum loop and goes full-on attack mode just before it relaxes into that slow, old school hip hop style beat and the pads kick in. How tf they managed to sequence that is incredible.
