  1. On the plane I got to watch a few movies. None of them were great.

Silly, gory fluff. Not much to report about it.

I must have missed the film before this one because it didn’t make a ton of sense. Either that or I did see it and it still didn’t make sense. There were a few cool ideas but overall this just felt loose.

This one was ok. The casting was a little weird. The main girl seemed like she was doing a Billie Eilsh impression. The actor who played the dad is normally someone I really like but he seemed a bit blah in this. Maybe it was the direction. Watch out for that boogeyman tho.

I had higher hopes for this one. The trailer I saw a couple months ago was incredible so I jumped at watching this one but it was very basic and one dimensional. It could have been a lot better.

This was interesting. How could it not be? Terrible poster.

I’m probably forgetting one or two.

  2. BUMP!

Hey there, y’all. I’m going to be returning to Wales in a couple weeks (hopefully… I just learned that my passport is expired so I’m praying for a miracle). I had to use a travel voucher before it expired so the whole thing is a bit half-baked.

What I do know is that I’m flying into Heathrow on the 13th and flying out on the 19th. This time I have virtually zero plan except for maybe the night of the 15th (in Newport). Money is tight so I’m hoping to do the week on the cheap.

Any tips / tricks / hacks on how to save money on rail travel, buses, lodging, food, etc would be greatly appreciated.

In the meantime, I’m definitely going to revisit all of your incredible suggestions from before ( especially from my main boo @cwmbrancity   ).

Who knows, maybe I’ll follow where the wind takes me and end up in a completely different part of the UK. Maybe now is the time to do that Aphex/Cornwall tour I’ve always wanted to do. Or, I could do a mini tour of the haunted locations from Simon Marsden’s “Haunted Realm” photoessay book.

Just watched Prey. Wow, wasn't expecting much. 8/10

I really was surprised at how much I enjoyed it too. I remember catching some shit for posting that I liked it here. 2nd best film in the franchise, imo.

  4. Just started watching the original miniseries of The Stand.

I read the uncut version of the book a couple months ago and it was amazing so I did some research as to which adaptation was “better” and settled on this one. I think the clinker was that this version’s Mother Abigail was supposed to be 106 instead of Whoopi Goldberg. So far, there’s a lot of stuff that is pretty faithful to the book but it obviously flies through everything super fast.
The cast is half good and half ridiculous. The director definitely leans hokey on tons of secondary characters. It’s really frustrating at times because it feels like there’s a conscious avoidance of any real dramatic moments. The lighting and cinematography is pretty poor. I wonder if they were super stretched for the budget, seeing as this was the early 90s and TV hadn’t become what it is now. Some of it is downright unforgivable. It also confirms my feelings on how Rob Lowe is not a very good dramatic actor (great at comedy tho).  Molly Ringwald seems miscast as Frannie and they give her pointlessly skimpy outfits. Also, it’s weird that Harold isn’t fat but I see why they didn’t want to have to deal with an actor losing a bunch of weight.
I’m really hoping that this gets better but the bottom line is read the book… pretty much any adaptation of a classic work of literature is going to be a disappointment.

um that's just a knockoff Misfits logo tho?

That’s kinda what I like about it.
The misfits nicked their logo from The Crimson Ghost so I don’t mind a knockoff of a knockoff (RDJ style).

Question for both of you: on mobile?

On mobile, you will get a reduced set of text formatting options due to horizontal space. I can put all the options, but then you're likely to have rows of buttons that will obscure what you are typing along with the keyboard (I am guessing).

android... can't we have 2 horizontal rows with those text formating options? so that nothing overlays?

I’m definitely all for adding more buttons & rows if we have more formatting options.

👆 From Donovan’s “forgotten” soul record.

    Quote

It is amazing to find this complete album which I had forgotten I made. It was never released in 1970 when I recorded it with John Phillips (Mamas & Papas) in The Factory Recording Studio in Hollywood. The band was essentially The Jazz Crusaders…”

    👆Bowie on Soul Train.
I could talk about Bowie’s “blue-eyed-soul” period for ages. I’m a massive fan. Young Americans is a great Philly-Soul imitation, and a classic LP in its own rite.

Awesome! Finally they understand that the normal AFX-logo gets boring after a while

Where can I order that shirt? 💫

You can’t order the “official” one. Just the original knockoff…

There’s also this one (also a knockoff floating around prior to the recent tour)…

The Bear getting real fucking good but there's one character who's really, really fucking annoying me. The fact she's annoying the whole fucking kitchen makes me feel much fucking better.

They swear a lot in the kitchens of Chicago.

I couldn’t get past the first episode. It seemed well made enough but at the time I wasn’t in the mood for a stressful work environment type show.
Not sure why, but stuff like that affects me more than blood & gore.

I wish I would find some of the other London merch online. It was sold out when I got there

I think that pic is of the original bootleg tshirt that Richard re-bootlegged and sold as merch.
It’s been up on Etsy for ages.

  12. Had a dream I shared a cigarette with David Bowie in my mom's garage. In the dream he was smoking some kind of Newport special light or something and I was very surprised because I knew he used to smoke Gitanes. I can't remember what our conversation was about but we were joking around a bit.

I used to occasionally have David Bowie buddy dreams. I have also had buddy dreams about Axl Rose and maybe one or two about RDJ.

I haven't smoked a cigarette in nearly 20 years but recently I've been craving one every time I walk by someone smoking one on the street. Not sure what happened. The smell of second-hand smoke used to absolutely disgust me. Maybe it's having a kid that just started preschool... I think I have a latent association of smoking cigarettes with back-to-school season because I was a regular smoker from about 6th grade through most of college. I know smoking is a VERY bad habit but I think I'm missing the ritual.

    BBC/Netflix, btw.
This is lots of gory fun. I’m starting Halloween season early this year and this is a great show to get in the spirit. Not the best show of all time or even the best adaptation of Stoker’s book but it is a new spin and a very entertaining one. Homie from The Square and Bad Sisters plays Dracula. At first I thought he wasn’t scary enough but he’s actually a great choice for what this version sets out to achieve. Bad Sisters was good too, btw. He was such a fucking prick in that show.
