    Brexit :(

Lol you know you can even make exceptions in cases when no arrangements are in place? Like yes, the English government is a bunch of fucking tits, but this is where you (not you directly ding) play the magnanimous role and say, “ok we’ll let you take your shitty Asda sandwiches” over the border for the next 30 days as before. The comparison to the Congo (Democratic Republic or Republic? Both?) is not a good one, as the UK is still a member of the EU and the food products in question are exactly the same. It’s not like you’re taking a risk with American “cheese-like product” or something. Who said anything about “all the privileges of being a member”? And what “hill to die on?” Brexit with a deal is already dead, let the lorry drivers eat their sandwiches lol. They’re already probably drinking their own piss in Kent...

    Brexit :(

The pettiness is in making it the next day, so that trucks in the queue will have to bin food. What are they going to do about sandwiches that had been brought over on the 30th and are already in the EU? Send the EU sandwich police after them? It's the exact same product that was able to cross the border freely beforehand. Listen, I agree that the vast majority of the blame falls on the English government in pfaffing about, but EU diplomats are determined to make an example of the UK. Exceptions in trade deals are made all the time, they do not have to be arbitrary. These include phased-in approaches to tariffs and goods classification.

    Brexit :(

From the article: “If you are carrying prohibited items in your luggage, vehicle or person you will need to use, consume, or dispose of them at or before the border.” I’m picturing lorry drivers shoveling ham and cheese sandwiches into their mouths at the border. This is also the ultimate in pettiness by EU officials. Those ham and cheese sandwiches aren’t going to magically change into death infused poison pills overnight. Like the lorry drivers who enter on the 30th are carrying the same Asda sandwiches as those entering on the 31st.

  10. ahhh the ambiguity of it all. I think predator perv is a bit of an exaggeration. He banged and married a 15 year old in 1965 when he was 24 (sexual revolution was beginning, different societal context) and apparently got a BJ on more than one occasion from a younger girl when groupies were throwing themselves at famous people in the music industry. So yes he fucked up, but I think it's a stretch to say he was a predator. Nothing that I've read indicates that he actively stalked teenage girls or groomed them or what have you. He's also been dead for some time now...so I think you're ok in enjoying his selections. Just my opinion though.
  11. “direct democratic cybernetic socialism” mmmm democratic socialism, but it’s cyber.
  12. A) No they can’t. Not to meet demand on a global scale (enterprise simply means work or project, nothing to do with an economic theory). Leadership and decision making is required, otherwise you get stalled in process. Democratic processes on projects will be far less efficient than having specialized roles, leading to waste and delay. B) This is 100% inaccurate, as any cursory glance at economic history will show. As well, we have the benefit of looking at communist economies (I’m not talking about political side of things here) and we can make the comparison based on that history. C) Socialist countries fall prey to the same issue, with even worse outcomes, and worse mechanisms to resolve bad leadership. D) Central planning is an even worse example of how to develop an economy, again, as any reading of economic history would show. E) So yeah, not a great outcome.
  13. The assumption that workers, left to their own devices, would make coherent systems to meet the needs of enterprise, is a wild leap of faith based on nothing at all. The justification that well-regulated capitalism provides better outcomes than communism is evident throughout history. Simply because you live in a country that refuses to regulate industry and enforce those regulations doesn’t mean it can’t be done. Eliminating competitive markets is like trying to practice autarky, which has proven its failures numerous times throughout history. Stallman is influential, kind of, but he’s also not really taken seriously by many in computing anymore. He’s an isolated dude who spends a lot of his time tilting at windmills.
  14. That is some wild shit you’re smoking. Oh you’re at the anarcho-communist phase already. Well, you’ll either make it through that and understand that well-regulated markets along with private capital investments provide better outcomes than communism, or you’ll end up like Richard Stallman.
  15. Man, if every worker working on windows did their work with security in mind, things would be different. Ask any hacker (white hat or black hat) the biggest vulnerability is people.
  16. If the masses all used Stallman OS, there would be many many infected stallman OS machines. Would it be as bad as windows? Probably not, but how many users would want to run in sudo because it’s convenient. How many would bother auditing source code? How many would install buggy packages? You want to blame it on anything, I’d take a look at the majority owners of SolarWinds (one of the companies in the article) selling off $286M worth of stock before the hack was announced. Greed, which exists outside of any political ideology or economic model, is likely the culprit.
  17. There’s literally only one way to read that sentence. Im well aware of what the direct address comma is, and when you use them (to separate the noun you are addressing from the rest of the sentence). In that interjection, separating “Google” from “Fuck you”, makes no sense. Additionally, as Google is the subject in the following clause, “suck my dick.”, it should not be punctuated in the vocative case, as nouns of direct address cannot be subjects. That is as simple as it gets. I will allow that direct address commas can be used in some context to clarify the person you are speaking to, but it is falling out of fashion, and language evolves. Hence the constant diatribe on my part about the linguistic prescription. How could you think I’m insulting ding? Anything to do with comments about his German nationality are tongue in cheek (which would be obvious if you weren’t so German ? )I love Germany by the way, even if you continually beat us up in football. How could you not? Great cars, beer, music, and David Hasselhoff. Jesus. What am I doing. Have at it. Post away, IDEM.
  18. So I see we've had Burning'n'Tree, but I think we gotta appreciate the smoothness of the hats in HND, especially Cooper's World and Beep Street. That breakdown at like 1:05 of Beep Street with the open hi-hat slowing down to launch in to the full funk is mmmm such a nice touch.
  19. Thanks for the assist ? I’ve only started getting into cocktails in the last year or so. They’re fun to make, and make a nice change once in a while. I must be getting old lol
