  1. Ugh. Did I just see a hateful, racist, bizarro Elizabeth Warren Doppleganger there? Weird.
  2. I'm surprised, Joyrex, that you are so confident that they're done. On BOC timescales, their Warp 30 NTS mix was relatively recent. From the point of view of their output or public statements, etc., that was basically yesterday. I just don't see any reason for pessimism, unless you know something about this that we don't. On the other hand, I'm just not so sure I care. Maybe I've talked myself into thinking about the prospect of new releases from them as highly unlikely, just so I'll be pleasantly surprised, as you say. I remember when this switch flipped for me: after all the months (years?) of the "black box" debacle, the mushroom cloud image on Warp's website, and so on, I just said "fuck it" and stopped caring if they released anything else. And then they did, and it was great, but it's time to stop obsessing over someone else's work and time to get back to my own shit, ya know? So to that extent, I agree with the mindset you're advocating. I'm only just surprised that you're saying things so definitively, especially given your prominence and influence in the fan community. That's all.
  3. My goodness. This review. "Laughed at by the duo." Priceless. I find this a funny example of how quick to offense some people can be, and most often it's over nothing at all. I wish I could show this person how much Autechre goes out of their way for their fans, in ways that very few artists would. I'd show him my gorgeous signed EPs box set, framed and proudly displayed on my wall, which they signed when they actually hung out and chatted with me for like 15-20 minutes in an alley beside the venue, talking about the sound in the venue and all that shit. Fucking cool dudes without the bullshit pretension that comes with the territory of being artists loved by thousands in every corner of the world. When I think about how people get offended over things like this, it reminds me to check myself if I feel miffed at something that was probably stupid, and to re-evaluate other people's intentions.
  4. Of course he wants to fire Fauci. This seemed to be written on the wall from the moment we could all see that Fauci seemed competent.
  5. Oh, right! Thanks for that--didn't want to misremember the track name. Fucking weird and killer. I always thought that track had a sinister vibe to it when I'd listen to it as a teenager, and I'm glad that I have this totally different sinister experience to pair with the track, sharing that with hundreds of shivering, cold, wet fellow fans. So strange. Nice to know RDJ thought it was super weird, too.
  6. I was there that night, too. Not a big festival guy (crowds give me the creeps), but that was exceptional. Great to read RDJ's thoughts about how weird it all was. IIRC, he had "Schottkey 7th Path" on a little longer than I would have expected, and that fucking cold front blew through and the temp dropped at least 20 degrees, and they had to lower those displays on the side because of the wind, and fog started rising up and then the freezing cold rain dropped. I joked at the time that it was like his track summoned the weather.
  7. Oof, who cares? I mean, I think about that skeleton on the park bench waiting, or the fans who actually died of cancer and car wrecks and stray bullets from nearby gang conflicts, and I feel sorry that they died hoping for a New BOC, but then again, I also think about how in their final moments, they probably weren't rueing the lack of more BOC material; they were probably thinking about how much it hurts or the blood or the shit in their beds or whatever. And really, would I prefer a world where one of my favorite bands didn't overstay their welcome by releasing every little doodle they made like "A Tome of All Tones" or "The Boards Are BACK!" or whatever--fuck no. Maybe it's just my arbitrary psychological constitution and there aren't any objective facts about what's better or worse, but I prefer looking forward to the greatness that might be coming than regret the latest "track 19 featurin' Gizz-Loah". Also, I got too much shit to do to worry about this. Again, not speaking objectively or whatever, not trying to say that there's something wrong with people who are pining for more of them boards. I'm just talking through what I've had to think about in order to move on from my own obsession with these artists. At the end of it all, I'm just grateful that I've got a cool collection of records and CDs and posters from these guys with their aesthetic and mission-statements, and there's not a moment that I'm embarrassed about in sharing it with friends--it's all killer, and that's cool quality-control that I didn't get from some of my favorite artists from back in the day.
  8. They just did an NTS set. I think they just don’t care about time. Or fans.
  9. They’re probably showing that they have the power to block ill-conceived attempts to capitalize on something (a) that’s already freely available anyway and (b) that they’re already capitalizing on themselves. I don’t know; this whole affair is really confusing.
  10. Geezus. I hope he pulls through without any further symptoms here on out.
  11. Why "grave damage" to national security, exactly? Is it because technological secrets involving our weapons systems might be revealed? Is it because international disputes (involving classified technology, as just one explanation) might ensue? I was a little annoyed that the Vice article didn't elaborate further on this.
  12. Exiate. Can't wait to listen to these while I work and run errands today! THX SN&RB!!!
  13. Um, I don't find that very funny. That happened to me once.
  14. Goddamnit. There's already a thread for this.
  15. New Fear Ratio and now new VHS Head—2020 is a Skam year as far as I’m concerned.
  16. Yes. I worked in kitchens for my livelihood for nearly a decade, and I can also confirm all of this. Just humans serving humans; it’s no different seeing strangers working hard in front or strangers working hard in the back.
  17. Thanks for reporting about this--listening now. I'm glad I didn't miss it this time!
  18. Just a circle-jerk/stroke-job for those countries that have economic weight to throw around.
  19. It’s been an honor and a privilege reading WATMM’s thoughts about music, Nice Butts, and vids with you all over the years. Godspeed, you fine gentlemen.
  20. There is already a comment on the fact that there is already a thread for this
  21. Eh, what can you do? You know, I don't disagree with the original post. In fact, I have a similar feeling about their post "Beaucop Fish" releases. It's not the loss of Emerson, because he was gone by "Beaucop...", if I recall correctly. But what matters to me is that they're still trying. They still share with the world. If it doesn't move you, so what? They are still doing something, and that's just fine. I just won't buy what I don't want to listen to regularly, but I respect people who are crippled by the depression and self-imposed solitude induced by the fear that any sane person might feel in this over-stuffed, over-carbon(dioxide)ated world we're in. Fuck it. They're still trying to make something, at least.
