  1. best song on the album without a doubt. it's the Pen Expers of this era.
  2. why do you feel the need to listen to it on an physical media ? chances are it was created on a computer so audio files are its more original form. it's like waiting for some analogically recorded jazz album to appear in mp3s and ignore the original recording on a vinyl. In a nutshell: I have this thing about not paying for files, and I try not to "steal" music anymore these days, that's really all it is. nothing wrong with that at all. also, it's awesome. if you haven't noticed yet in this thread....it's awesome. get your sunglasses raedy for when you get to recks on.
  3. apparently Exai is a demo they made for inclusion on the A Tribute to Incomplete Skyscrapers WATMM album. they got voted out as not IDM enough for us anymore, apparently. ;)
  4. agreed with all of that. i mentioned the Gescom feel in Flep in particular. i'd have excused the existence of nodezsh and runrepik if they were on a Gescom album. ;) Are you saying that you don't like these tracks, or just that they sound too Gescomy to be on an Autechre album? I say this because nodezsh has been the standout track for me so far, and makes a lot of sense to me as an Autechre track. It walks the perfect line between Oversteps and Move of Ten. yeah i don't much care for them yet. i'm only a few listens in though, so those sorts of things can change. they sound a bit Gescom-y to me, yeah...i was mostly making a joke on what i'd expect from Gescom vs. what i'd expect from AE. hopefully i'll start enjoying them more.

  6. No, this came out afterward and we consider their choice of this name to be their way of giving a nod to us. That's pretty cool, if true. it's gotta be true. too much of a coincidence to not believe it....THEY KNOW
  7. i'm enjoying disc 1 more as a whole as well, mostly because of the weakness of a couple tracks on disc 2. they may grow on me, who knows. still so early, only listened to it a few times through they've done the bridging on occasion, but i don't think ever quite so much as on this album. it definitely helps with the flow! the times before that stand out in my mind are Fold 4, Wrap 5 into Under BOAC, Dial. into Cap.IV (no bleeding, but those beats sync perfectly) and i think a few spots in Draft. Fermium into The Trees has something that may be a bleed over, but i've never been certain of that one. also, Redfall into krYlon (maybe other spots on Oversteps even). also Eutow into C/Pach isn't technically bleedover or anything, but goddamn is that transition perfect. lol.
  8. not sure what to make of this. no pattern seems obvious to me, but here's the little i did to try and separate it out so far. blocked E x a e i r l i ( g 0 ) p c - f j t e C x i o l p r i b l d e s 1 i s h k 9 l o i n e e L e c k o Y J Y U unblocked i F L e u r t e e t r a a e v e T e s s v e k S F e t u i n o z n a l o r e 1 s n o d e z r u n r e p i s p l c u d l d c o o c r s n X
  9. Lateralus! that was not an immediate love for me. it took a bit. yeah, i can see that happening for sure. i know it took some of my friends a bit to really sink in. i was sold with the scream/end of The Grudge
  10. anyone complaining about any criticisms or nit picks needs to fuck off actually. Yes I'm talking to you. I mostly love the album, but I get irritable when defensiveness kicks in as a response to a nit pick it wasn't a nitpick, i was typing up half-assed first impressions as i listened and chatted elsewhere. i had recently read where a couple people (honestly don't remember that it was you or whoever but considering how butthurt you are i'm gonna assume it was) said that there was weak sound design on the album...the album sounded great and that point in particular in vekoS i was impressed enough to make an offhand comment. and before anyone says 'well you said fuck off first!' i also compared the song to being in a sewage pipe. so yeah, chill out. i wasn't being defensive, if the album or sound design or anything in particular sucked, i'd have no problems saying so...as i did on a couple tracks. nodezsh and runrepik didn't impress me at all. criticisms on the album are the most interesting part, but it seems you just get upset when someone disagrees with something you said? who cares, chill out baby...there's new AE to listen to. anyone complaining about any criticisms or nit picks needs to fuck off actually. Yes I'm talking to you. someone else who said something about the weak sound design i guess? meh, it think y'all are nuts, but whatever. Lateralus!
  11. 1. FLeure - ending is awesome, in a Vose In kinda way...just destruction and reconstructions of tones thrown at you. maybe not their best opener, but wins me over by the end for sure 2. irlite (get 0) - dense as fuck! them synths are making their presence felt. the 'movements' of this piece are rather interesting. a lot to be explored on further listens....get an Untilted vibe to this one almost. the way the drums rise and fall in volume is quite brilliant and would sound like shit in less accomplished hands than theirs. 3. prac-f - the guys from Stomp! make an appearance! the ending of the track calls back to another AE track i can't quite place. 4. jatevee C - banger. banger. dat bass drum. Quaristice-era style melody all up in it 5. T ess xi - first impression is it's almost got an 80's video game feel. drums are just growing in every way...then the change hits and it sounds like they mined some Drukqs-era Aphex for samples. it must've taken some balls to put out something that sounds like this...it's such a strange mix of styles. very well done though. 6. vekoS - anyone complaining about 'weak sound design' or whatever needs to fuck off and listen to just the beginning of this. the subtlety and space given to the sounds is immaculate. more Untilted style organic growth within the track. almost Draft sounding drums/synth combinations. then we fall into a sewage pipe halfway through with the bassist from Oversteps playing for us as we twist and turn 7. Flep - reminds me of what Fol3 might've sounded like with real-ish drums instead of noises and distorted swishes and shit. reverb is the star here. locks into a nice groove after a couple minutes, reminds me of Gescom. melodies are being denied entry at every turn. beat gets awesome at the end. fucking awesome. makes the song. 8. tuinorizn - lol those first seconds. BANGER BAET...straight outta tri rep sound wise. oversteps synths detuned and bitchy. beat turns VERY pop/hip hop for a second 9. bladelores - HOLY SHIT THIS IS BLADELORES? sounds like they're fucking testing out the system at first....'does this synth work?' 'yeah' 'hey, why's everything sound so lo-fi?' 'turn off the vekoS sewage pipe effect' 'oh yeah forgot to turn that off thanks' 'let's test some more synths?' 'sure!' 'hey, that's a cheesy rhythm!' 'yeah lol taking the piss...wait are we recording this?' 'fuck yeah' best track ever. pretty sure one of them was masturbating whilst making this. fuck when the drums drop out in the middle.......unghhhhhh god damnnnn definition of lush. 10. 1 1 is - melodies in here are actually pretty good, though they're all jumbled up together oddly. which is of course lush. those industrial snares. awesome rhythmic play towards the end, still slow but well done. one of the synths from Garbagemx shows up loudly and is pissed it hasn't been used in 15 years. 11. nodezsh - lol wtf intro, very Quaristice. draft-y beat manipulation but less awesome and less interesting. dramatic chords on synths because otherwise everyone would laugh at us. i actually find it hard to believe that this track is on the album, and that it's almost 9 minutes. meh. 12. runrepik - wtf is this doing on the album part 2. gets more interesting, but still not piquing my interest yet. 13. spl9 - love the breathing in sound before this kicks in. love the 'chorus' in here, the synths are so fucking brutal. rhythm turn toward the end....fucking awesome. great ending. this track might be the best so far. 14. cloudline - very trippy synths going on. is that real vinyl crackles in the drums? a few times in this i had flashbacks to other songs of theirs...hard to place on first listen. are they recycling? 15. deco Loc - very Move of Ten. but better. lol those vocals, that wood sound snare-replacement. 16. recks on - 80's like a motherfucking boss. this is too awesome to be real. are AE really doing this? fuckingbonerforever. that bass that comes in strong halfway through yes. turns the whole track dirty and old. reminds me of irlite (get 0) in ways here...perhaps the same bass synth? the drum changes at the end are still ace. surprisingly simple though. but spot on. great track. 17. YJY UX - these first moments are giving me a heart attack at how great these sounds are gonna be. reminding me of Nuane, Drane2, Cep puiqMX. seals the album up amazingly well. that rocking melody they introduce towards the end....this whole thing will only get better on further listens.
  12. halfway through my first full listen...making track notes/review as i go...so far my summary of the album is 'hey look at all these awesome filters and synths! wanna just make a whole album where we twist knobs and bang keys?' 'fuck yeah lush' edit: and god said 'let it be the lushest' and so it was agreed. i think it's the way they're burying the drums in the mix/under the synths/in their own reverb that is so similar
  13. on my 3rd listen now. (noticed 1 second of silence on recks on at 7:55/7:56 on the 24bit files) 2nd half of irlite (get 0) now. just great. the hole thing. highlights - Yjy Ux, cloudline, spl9 "downlights" - not really at this point - if i have to pin one, then it would be runrepik and prac-f, that i wish to be longer but they are not bad at all. i think it's my first post here on this Ae forum and I must say you guys are fun to lurk all the way this Exai thing started. I liked ever bit of it. My opinion about Exai is, that it's one of they ripest and richest achievements they've done to date and I think it might be a bridge to they recent live stuff, if that's the Haeven to approach to. I wish to see a live tour too. Seen them only once in Berlin 2010. All in all I'm utterly overwhelmed with this exaiting new (hopefully not last) release. And sorry if I have the chutzpah to ask as newcomer on this board. Enjoy the Exaitement! this guy Just in terms of timescale there's no way there's any analog 4 on here. Album will have largely been written 1-2 years ago, I can't imagine there were any A4s outside elektron hq before last summer at the earliest. they could've finished some tracks on this as recently as...when did we get a track list? a couple months ago, maybe? yeah, then. this all could've been written within the last 6 months to a year, easily. and if what one of them said was true about doing 'just programming' for like a full year after Oversteps/MoT, then yeah, that's likely i'd say. i have no idea what the A4 is y'all are talking about, just saying.
  14. ... at least they didn't just say NO let's all pretend that it leaked. if we can keep it up long enough they'll think it leaked and release the files SELF FULFILLING PROFITCY
  15. okay so everyone has a fucking promo. not acceptable. this is like an orderly leak at this point. EVERYone has heard this fucking album. except the true feels fans. crying now. but really, this is strange that SO many damned people have a legitimate promo copy. wtf.
  16. Try banging out some beats on your awesome equipment instead! yeah i was curious what equipment that was
  17. Exai backwards = i axe axe + bladelores = this is gonna be AE's most violent album ever. this thread is about axes until the album gets released.
  18. Dangerous question the 15 tracks of the 3rd Incunabula EP, of course.
