  1. d-sho qub = q-sho(w) dub = Quaristice Show Dub? There's definitely plenty of Quaristice elements in this track.
  2. The one I have is 320kbps mp3s. Someone post that link to the samples, I'm too lazy but it's been bumped several times. Compare your mp3s to the sample clips to see if you have the legit version. edit: I overcame my laziness http://www.normanrecords.com/records/113468 You wanna know how far back I had to search for that shit? All the way to page 236 ffs!
  3. Wow, you're right! I can't believe I didn't think of that! Perhaps that's why this album, um, resonates with me so much! This video has been a favorite of mine for quite some time: omfg I need to get one of those and learn how to play it. Most IDM instrument ever.
  4. Question: If I wait a year or two before I get around to buying a vinyl player, will it be incredibly difficult to track down the full Ae discog? I'm thinking more specifically of the earlier releases like Incunabula, Amber, the ep's that weren't limited press. Haven't really bothered looking into it before because I figured I'd collect later when I have a surplus of money but if the records are out of print I might do well to snag a few of them up now just so I have them. Experts?
  5. Oh I absolutely will, but you know, vinyl players are pricey and vinyls themselves are extra pricey. Not that it would normally matter to me but at the moment I've not got much extra money to spend on stuff and I'll be wanting to finish my Ae collection in CD first, then go back and get them all vinyl for the nice big pictures and the fabled warmer sound and surface noise. Tbh, I've never heard a vinyl, at least not since I was like 6 or something.
  6. I agree with your reasoning to an extent, however the big issue I have with that is that people who don't have vinyl players miss out on some of the art. Being the completionist that I am, I get really irked when the one track is a vinyl rip and sounds different than the rest of the tracks. Also, Particularly I noticed this with Saw II but even if you download stone in focus and hankie, it won't fit onto a burned 2-disc of the album (iirc).
  7. I bet the foreshadowing in the interview about how there's more to come in the near future means that this is actually a double album and the second disc remains a complete secret until people actually get the final copy in their hands. Doesn't seem crazy of them to only send out 1 disc for the promo. Yeah, yeah, I know,
  8. I like this album because it does a good job of spanning the emotional range of Autechre music. There aren't really many tracks they've ever done that wouldn't sound at home on Oversteps.
  9. I'm gunna take a stab at a track-by-track of oversteps now. It'll be preliminary but there may be some spoilers so don't bitch at me for ruining anything. r ess - starts out almost like a Clark album. Clearly has the Ae energy puslating in it though, as the beat drops. Sounds like a beat from the Untilted world that's rusty and broken and slow. It's almost like a fusion of the styles from Chiastic Slide with the Untilted style. Awesome track, one of my favs for sure, leaves alot of unfinished business for the album to take care of. ilanders - kinda begins like you're waking up on an island, you don't realize your predicament until the beat drops and then it's like this constant battle between hopefulness and hopelessness that ensues. Really nice way of capturing a dichotomy of emotions into music. Love this track. known(1) - really unexpected from Ae but I like it. I like how they start with a fairly mainstream sounding melody and then the glitchy squelching synth line comes in and its like Ae's saying "Haha fuck that you think we'd do MAINSTREAM BITCHES???" pt2ph8 - like underwater. That's what I get out of this. The last minute and a half of this track really gets me. It's like some blissful bath in warm water. Like being inside some IDM womb. qplay - brings back the staggering, stuttering beats and abstract melodic constructs. This track is taking me a while to fully digest but it's starting to make alot of sense to me. The second half of the track is much better than the first IMO but that remains to potentially change. Nice use of the hissing puff-of-steam noise that we indulged in in Iera. see on see - Strings of wonder. If there was one word to describe this track its definitely 'wonder'. It sounds like music from a video game where you just discovered a cave full of treasure. Awesome track, blissful, warm, and happy. True unrestrained happiness too. I love that about this album, they don't seem shy to become fully happy, as most previous stuff has been at best a mixture of some strange emotion and happiness. Treale - its like rale upgraded. Such a pimpin' track. I don't wanna use that word but those of you that have heard it probably understand. Fuckin sick beat, tons of layering and crazy stuff going on with the synth. The little melody at the end is just SO fucking Autechre. So dystopian future-esque which is something I love in Ae music. As I said, right at the end my brain dribbles out my pee-hole for that synth line. So perfect, it really hits the spot! os veix3 - is like this album's version of tracks like Sim Gishel, VL AL 5, Uviol, etc. Really sparce and spacey. Wonderful melody that kinda indicates despair, occasionally becoming overshadowed by hopefulness only to be stomped back down into despair with the switch of a key. Wonderful track, really bouncey and chill. O=0 - almost like Ae does Plaid. This track is full of determination. Like serious wholehearted determination. It seems like the track is constantly trying to resolve some conflict, and although it never quite succeeds, it remains just as determined. That's what I get out of it anyways. d-sho qub - I'm tempted to think this is a rearrangment of q-sho(w) dub as in a re-working of the Quaristice show or something Quaristice related. Starts out by reminding you of that psychotic clown that was Perlence, only he's gotten much much more psychotic and insane. Really pounding dancey track. I like that there are a good number of tracks that you can actually bob your head to with ease and comfort. It's a bit refreshing. The swells in this track are so bizarre but so intriguing. Eventually it all strips away to a pulse much like Simmm and proceeds onwards with st epreo st epreo - almost sounds like some holy church that was ravaged by Satan. Very evil and growly and dark. Can't really say I enjoy this one yet but it's very very slowly growing on me. Kinda reminds me of the atmosphere behind the whole Diablo storyline. redfall - I think of this track as though we are suddenly re-visiting the world of Amber (due to the word 'red' in the title). The atmosphere feels much the same, but there is no life anywhere, only sadness and memories. Definitely the most nostalgic track on the album. Fucking love this track. I've had the little string melody on repeat in my head for a few days now lol. krYlon - still can't really figure this track out. It doesn't seem to have much of a direction, although it's making more sense each time. It's kinda just a synth bath. A nice warm bath after a long stressful day. Yuop - perfect closer. Can't say I expected any less. Nice stuttering beat and synth line. So beautiful but handicapped at the same time. To me it feels like the realization that the journey isn't actually over, that there will be a new day and more challenges and hardship. So to summarize, I'd say this album is really warm and friendly and accessible. Even the most complex beats on this album aren't difficult to follow at all, but they retain enough subtle quirkiness to satisfy my ravenous appetite for beat puzzles. I'm just really glad this is what we got. Really glad. There have been many times I've perused the Ae discography on my iPod feeling like it was lacking something, more specifically it was lacking a nice optimistic happy installment. Not to say I don't love the melancholy, and on the opposite side it's not to say that this album is entirely blissful, but it's enough to perk me up. I never thought I could be more eager for more of their work but fuck, I can't wait for their next release.
  10. I wouldn't say that either of your examples are at all buried in the music. Both of them are pretty noticeable imo, but I've also listened to their entire discog many tens of times so I might be biased in my judgement. I can't see how you say Draft 7.30 isn't melodic. Compared to Confield and Untilted which surrounded it, It easily has more obvious up-front melodies than either of them. I'll pick a bunch of examples to show: Spoiler for slightly in-depth possibly tl;dr argument involving the tracks: Now I've gone into detail with Draft, so I won't get too specific with the comparison. Untilted is quite non-melodic, save for a few tracks. Confield is more melodic but still far less so than Draft 7.30. I don't mean to come off as a prick though, I just think that if you consider this album to be non-melodic then you should really give it a second shot.
  11. Predictable? WWWWTTFFFFFF???? Xylin Room? IV VV IV VV VIII? 61e.CR? Tapr? Surripere? Theme of sudden roundabout? VL AL 5? P.:ntil? V-Proc? Reniform Puls? All of these tracks have surprises and unpredictable stuff going on. I have no idea how you could call an Ae album predictable because one of the main purposes of Ae albums seems that they are unpredictable.
  12. That wire review is awesome, if a little bit over-articulate
  13. i can hear some sounds, but they could be anything! What quality rip do you have? I couldn't hear them when I transcoded it down to 128
  14. I've noticed that there's what appears to be the sound of a girl being fucked at the very end of redfall, its quite quiet and hard to tell if that's what it is or not. After that there is a slightly louder sample of a male exhaling abruptly several times. Does anyone else notice this?
  15. my lastfm page has me at 111 plays total for Oversteps (1 per track played, not times album was played lol) It's been more though as I burned it to CD for listening in the car. So when are we going to see your review? I'm looking forward to it. Soon, probably tomorrow.
  16. my lastfm page has me at 111 plays total for Oversteps (1 per track played, not times album was played lol) It's been more though as I burned it to CD for listening in the car.
  17. It's far too legit and complete sounding. I would be incredibly surprised. However, if they were to reveal that this is just a decoy album for the real oversteps or some loose change conspiracy shit like that, I wouldn't be as surprised. That being said, I don't expect anything like that will end up happening.
  18. Within the context I read this post about 3 times thinking that meant you were Rob.
  19. Hey now, man, I'm not made of money. Also, I've recently paid for my plane tickets to fly to the UK for the Brighton show, so it'll be a little while till I can even begin to plan to save for something like decent headphones.
  20. Alright well I'll contend that I'm a bit of an audiophile too and would certainly prefer the higher quality rip, but in the mean time this is all we have and it is perfectly acceptable to tide me over until I get the wavs and the CD. Perhaps I just don't have a good enough sound system to notice the difference between >128 quality versus flac/lossless. My headphones seem to be good (skullcandy Ti's) and my speakers aren't great but they get the job done. The car is where I can notice the dip in quality the best. Perhaps it's time to invest in some better listening gear though.
  21. Why do you guys keep goin on about bad quality? I was sent the 320 mp3's but I'm almost certain the original m4u file was 320 because it sounds leaps and bounds better than when I chopped it up in ableton and had to convert to 128. Like srsly, I can't see how listening to it at a semi-lossy quality could possibly spoil it. In my experience it's nearly impossible to tell the difference between 320 and flac anyways so I'm guessing about half of you who are holding out for the 'high quality' files are just doing so to be pretentious.
  22. unfortunately, some of us have been reading since post #1 Yeah I've been here since page 1, both threads. Usually when there's threads I can't keep up with though I just read the last 2 pages or so and reply to whatever's happening at that point.
  23. Fuckin awesome man, I eagerly anticipate this thing. i lolled irl lol
  24. LP7????????? But yeah this does remind me mostly of LP5, with hints of Quaristice here and there.
  25. Just thought I would come in here and say Treale makes me feel like a muthafuckin G UNIT!!!!!!!!!
