  1. I bought the special edition quaristice, the fuckers spilled hot glue all over the second CD, last time I order anything like that.
  2. In terms of female authors I really like "The Banquet Bug" by Geling Yan, it captures perfectly the insanity of modern China. Highly recommended:
  3. Mental Union is Perala's best yet. Great album. Teardrops and Moonstone are lovely.
  4. wait i have to download an album track by track, and don't get cover art? Weaksaus incidentally bodmin 3 is one of the best analord tracks I've heard, nice groove.
  5. [edit: reply to AW] i didn't say that, of course it's a huge embarrassment, I detest PC-ism and groupthink in all their forms. But it reminds me of that Bradbury story "Toynbee convector(?)", where the guy pretends he invented a time machine just to convince humanity to head in the right direction. We really need a kick in the pants to do something about global pollution...not that this is the way to do it, but I'm not going to beat my breast about it. The main reason not to squelch alternative research, apart from the ethical one of course, is that it can end up backfiring as it did in this case...I also wonder how widespread this actually was, or if it is much ado about nothing. People in my industry talk shit about each other all the time in private, I'm curious how much of the bluster actually translated into really blocking valid research.
  6. finally? I don't see how this will do any good, it will just give climate change naysayers an excuse to keep doing what they're doing. The fact is we have to change our behavior regardless of how much influence pollution is actually having.
  7. The Scent of Green Papaya Kiki's Delivery Service Little Miss Sunshine
  8. These extended versions sound amazing, I haven't heard them. And VL Al5 and Uviol are favorites, in my top 5 between these two albums. I'd definitely be interested if you guys can find the webcast tracks :) http://rapidshare.com/files/298882270/2008_-_uviol__extended_mix_from_webcast_23-02-2008_.mp3.html http://rapidshare.com/files/298878379/2008_-_VL_AL_5__extended_mix_from_webcast_23-02-2008_.mp3.html can you reupload the second one? It says it's reached its limit of 10 downloads...

    poetry

rimbaud is cool cuz if anyone asks you can tell them you are reading the collected poetry of Rambo.
  12. even if he dooms the world to nuclear winter, I'm still only going to be able to think of him as the "i'm so ronery" guy.
  13. this may have already been posted...
  14. i'm sure someone's said it already, but Breaking the Waves
  15. huh? it's anything but? Depressing maybe, though I don't think so with Karamazov. But Russians are hardly passionless (if that's what you mean by bloodless). That's also a bit of a funny critique coming from one of the board's more detached-seeming members.
  16. and here i thought i couldn't get any more gay for you.
  17. i have some street cred when it comes to primus. My friends and I got ahold of the original promo cassette for "Suck on This" and became instant fans, this was in '88 or thereabouts, we used to follow them around to tiny gigs in Oakland and Berkeley when they were basically unknown, playing alongside the likes of Dread Zepplin and Victim's Family. We'd put up posters for them in exchange for free tickets to their shows. I remember the first time they played the Warfield in SF, right before Sailing the Seas of Cheese was released, it was an amazing show and the first time we realized they were getting huge. Great band.
  18. oh, you have to read it, it's a classic. Called "Beneath the Underdog". The cool thing is his wife wrote her own book a few years back. It covers a different time frame than his book, mostly, but is also very well written in a totally different way. They are good counterparts to each other.
  19. huh, haven't read that. Charles Mingus' autobio is definitely worth a read if you haven't yet.
