  1. Nice ^^ Here's a couple of mine actually, given that I don't think I've posted any in here yet... https://soundcloud.com/internationaldebris/treesky-boundary-sector-three https://soundcloud.com/internationaldebris/13-drifting-consciousness
  2. Futuremusic has been around for a few now, don't think they'll come into trouble with the magazine (although I did wonder if it was run by them at first!) Pretty cool station though, really diverse.
  3. I know the girl who's dubbing the Music of the Now Age tapes, I think she's had a shitload of life issues in the last few months which has put it all back a bit. I think they're also being dubbed realtime so it's a long process. I think they should be done now though? AMDiscs are fucking awful, my Nmesh order was labelled as 'cancelled' about a fortnight after I made it, so I sent an email asking what was going on and I got a rude, sarky reply saying the tapes were sent that day. I know another guy who was due a digital release on there and it kept getting put back and back for months so he gave up in the end.
  4. I'm doing a fortnightly radio show on FutureMusic called Dream Machine playing vaporwave, ambient, outsider house and a few bits of new age and Berlin-school/synth stuff - currently live at http://futuremusic.fm, all shows will be archived on Mixcloud too.
  5. The diversity within vaporwave is definitely one of its strongest points - and yeah, I totally agree that the vaportrap stuff seems to have a different aesthetic that isn't always matched by the artwork. I like the way the DC/ambient end of it tends to have a different look - blurred and layered VHS screecaps and landscapes - while the 'classic' stuff has the corporate graphics look, but the trap stuff seems to have adopted the latter and it never really fits. Off to read those posts now. I occasionally read r/vaporwave but the number of really interesting discussions in there is totally overwhelmed by needless bitching and new release announcements with no replies.
  6. I'm the opposite, I actually try and avoid the originals even if I know an album is all sample-based. Unless you're doing a mixtape-style album (Nmesh's nu.wav hallucinations or the pursuing paradise records) then I prefer to think of it as original music, regardless of how sample-based it is. Maybe that's because a lot of my own music is heavily based on samples (FSOL are my biggest inspiration) so it's nice to hear people doing the same. I've recently finished an album that's about 50/50 samples and original (HKE has said some positive things so if I'm lucky it might even come out on DC - crossed my fingers there) but for me it doesn't matter how it's made, as long as the end result sounds good. I always sample from music I don't like - seeking out the little moments of greatness among horrible crap (new age CDs from charity shops are my main source of material) so I suppose that feeds in to it.
  7. He did a radio mix lately for the BBC that had loads of Dream Catalogue stuff in it.
  8. Hong Kong Express collab with Zomby
  9. Yeah, it's a split. I'm a tad worried about the fact that it's going to be a C120, which will last about six plays before breaking. In other news, goth vaporwave.
  10. Nmesh / t e l e p a t h pre-order dropped: https://dreamcatalogue.bandcamp.com/album/--24 Along with new ones from CULTURE as 4D Entity and R23X which I'm off to check out now.
  11. Ha yeah I was going to edit my post to point out it was the same album but then my connection cut out and I went outside for a walk. Yeah, the Viper thing was really shitty, Alex definitely did the right thing in cutting ties though. But the t e l e p a t h split is the real excitement for me, the tracks on Soundcloud are fantastic. I keep refreshing DC to see if it's for sale yet...
  12. I think a lot of the criticism aimed at vaporwave seems to be aimed at a specific element of it, i.e. slowed down '80s middle of the road loops along the lines of Floral Shoppe. There's plenty of other stuff out there that's branched off from that - HKE and 2814 head towards Burial, there's the whole future funk thing which is gradually beginning to sound like early Daft Punk, lots of things with trap beats which don't really go for the '80s smooth jazz/muzak end of it at all. There's a Nmesh/t e l a p a t h split coming out on Dream Catalogue later today which takes its sources from new age stuff which has a proper exotic ambient vibe to it. One I've been enjoying lately is Adult Contemporary Novel by Pursuing Paradise, which is mostly sourced from late '90s/early '00s stuff - it plays like a weird screwed up mixtape. I've chatted to the guy on Soundcloud and most of the source music is stuff that has a certain emotional or nostalgic concept for him. The idea that vaporwave has a specific era / style of source material seems very strange to me. It's been around for a few years now and it's evolved in several directions.
  13. Or you could just get them pro-dubbed. Pretty cheap these days. I know some labels pride themselves in home-made tapes but unless you've got a lot of dupe machines slaved up, fuck that. I've been playing around with some slightly less obvious source material (may contain Aphex) for some vaporwave stuff recently, should be a release soon, I'll post it in here for a lampooning when it's out.
  14. No, this one is the most Orbish of the Fehlmann records. Certainly the heavier use of breaks blended with the Kompakt-style beats gives it a much more rounded sound.
  15. Space album with Paterson's contributions: Moonbuilding's pretty decent, probably my favourite of the 'Fehlmann solo album + some Alex samples on top' trilogy so far.
  16. If this thread has taught me anything, it's that I need to get a stable setup and learn it inside out. I actually couldn't do one of these at all, I'd spend the whole time messing about working out where to start. It's been quite inspirational in that way.
  17. Also really, Winding Road and Autumn Travels deserve to be on this, c'mon guys, let's do this
  18. I'm already angry that my choices aren't at the top. Fuck this. edit: no really, great work!
  19. Excellent, now we can ask why he fell out with Chris Cunningham.
  20. Nothing like a bit of panic though, eh? I can imagine him sat there with the account accidentally deleted, thinking about whether he has to upload all 205 again, and lighting up the biggest spliff.
  21. Maybe he signed a contract with Warp to release the whole lot as a box set.
