  1. When the electric piano chord comes in at 4:07 my mind automatically reverts that to '1' even though it's actually '3'. Then it doesn't sync with the bassline and I get a headache. Took my years to work out what was even going on.
  2. For utterly obnoxious, it's hard to beat this one: Fine song, utterly embarrassing version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfrCIurPjww The sound of a band who've completely lost it: And the worst song of all time:
  3. If what Kris Weston says is true, then the reason Okie Dokie and Baghdad Batteries stand up above the others is that they're basically Thomas Fehlmann albums.
  4. A week after Environments 5 and a fortnight before Atomos. This autumn, man.
  5. I still think the barcode is just part of the art, rather than an actual barcode. Maybe a trick one. Maybe that's actually the front cover, and the real barcode is on the back. Maybe there's no real barcode, as Rich has succumbed to the 666 Barcode cult.
  6. The whole fakes thing is pretty funny, most of them sound like what people who aren't massively into electronic music think Aphex sounds like. "It's fast and has some weird complex bits, it must be Aphex Twin, nobody else makes music that weird!" type stuff.
  7. I'd be surprised if it was dnb type stuff. Drukqs -> Analord seemed to be somewhat of a starting afresh reset button, and The Tuss and then the live tracks seem to be taking that sound and developing it further and further, so I would imagine we'll have a continuation of that.
  8. So given that Tomorrow's Harvest reached number 7 in the UK albums chart, what do we reckon are the chances of this doing even better?
  9. I just went to 'change theme' in the bottom left and chose Syro.
  10. Still got the old background here. I am disappoint.
  11. Joyrex: this is the cover art WATMM: let's prove it's not the cover art Wondering if it's a fake barcode on the sleeve, the actual barcode is on the front a la ICBYD?
  12. Given that titles are the only thing that's been confirmed, surely it's not too bad to discuss them? To be honest, I think they're a bit shit, sub-Autechre type stuff. I doubt that'll reflect the music of course, which will be fucking awesome. I already have about 10 albums fighting for top album of 2014 and this is just going to make all that even harder, I'm sure.
  13. I dunno, I think writing one's opinion on an album is probably more sensible than writing one's opinion on a stranger's emotional intelligence, but that's just me. I kind of agree about the idea of being a 'professional' critic being silly - that one person's opinion should really have more weight than another. But as someone else said, you can read into it what you like. People who aren't very adventurous with music use professional reviews as a filter; myself, I sometimes read them alongside fan reviews to help give an overall picture of how an album was received, because I'm sometimes interested in how different people react to certain forms of culture. I don't think anybody's saying a Pitchfork review has to directly affect your feelings and emotions.
  14. Except writing is one of the primary ways of communicating ideas and opinions between people, whilst dancing isn't. Really hate the dancing about architecture quote. I remember when Drukqs came out, opinion was very divided. Even a few years later, describing it as my second favourite Aphex record (as it was then) on certain forums invited a lot of derision. More contemporary reviews: Allmusic: 3/5 Rolling Stone: 2/10 Billboard: 6/10 It's aged well and I think more recent reviews reflect that, but it was seen as a disappointment to many upon its release.
  15. Guys shrinkwrapped LP with barcode 0123456789012
  16. Preferred the 'new shit is imminent' thread.
  17. The four track might actually be more comfy than the vintage 70s chair.
  18. Here, this'll make you feel better
  19. I think it was Gaz from FSOL who said that Alex used to put support DJs through a shit PA at gigs just so The Orb sounded better.
  20. To be honest, given that there are pros and cons to single track threads and all-encompassing threads, the 'rule of thumb' of only one thread if you're posting regularly, otherwise it's up to you makes most sense. Some people might want to refer back to previous tracks, discuss their 'catalogue' in context, or whatever - others might just want to share the odd tune. Both should be encouraged as different things work for different people. A bit obvious, maybe, but people are still asking which is better. God, I really should take part in this place more often. Maybe if I had a higher opinion of my tunes. Mind you, I'm a lurker who listens but rarely comments, so I should probably do something about that too!
  21. I'd love to know how much of this is actually true. Part of me hopes it all is.
  22. "My favourite track on SAWII is that one on the top left-hand circle that's a bit blurred and has some lines on it"? The titles are for communicative purposes largely, aren't they? I mean, a picture isn't really a name, is it? It's a picture, or an avatar.
  23. mmmm. i think the trouble, is that you cannot just stagnate and keep churning out the same old sound. i'm sure he could do millions of permutations of his older sound but it wouldn't be a challenge. All his work is amazing. i think his recent stuff retains his style, and pushes the boundaries in different ways. (how the melodies present themselves and morph into other melodies etc) Love the new caustic window, can't stop listening! Oh, I agree - I'm certainly not criticising him for making changes (and I still rate Analord / The Tuss as some of the best electronic music of the last ten years). It's just especially exciting to get 'new' music from his earlier era, as it's great to hear my favourite side of him again...
  24. Completely. Compositionally, the Analord stuff is wonderful, but it sounds so clean and polished... a lot of what I love about earlier Aphex is the sound of it, the curiously lo-fi feel to even the better produced tracks, and the scrapbook feel to the range of different sounds and approaches he had back then. (Also probably why I'm less excited about MFM and AB5... for me, ICBYD was a transitional album from 'artist I love' to 'artist I quite like'). Anyway, yeah, this is fucking excellent.
  25. Annoying question - any idea on the timescale yet? Really hoping to get some spare cash (somehow) before that PayPal deadline, but if I had an estimate, I'd know when's the best time to go hold up the off license downstairs to get it...
