  1. Yeah, I hope the comparative scarcity of b-sides means we'll get more outtakes from those albums. Even when they have compilation exclusives they're always alt mixes of album tracks (Equinoxe, Adnan), there must be more properly unheard stuff in their archives.
  2. Started translating this blog into videos, will hopefully be updates to some of the entries, others will be fairly faithful to what I wrote a few years ago.
  3. From the fact that someone of the tracks on ISDN were broadcast only a few weeks before release, and one of the voicemails on the Mind Maps mixes is from someone at Virgin basically saying please pick a title we're running late, I wonder if it was done as a single LP just to speed up the pressing time.

  5. Although, to be fair, I did a quick count and, including the different tracks on different formats of the album and the various edits, the Green Album does have 50 non-album tracks, so it was always going to be a push to get them all out easily. In contrast, I count the known non-album tracks for other albums as: Brown: 15 Snivilisation: 16 In Sides: 21 (10 are live tracks) TMON: 23 (17 are remixes) The Altogether: 16 (13 are remixes) Blue: 14 (including Rest & Play) Wonky: 28 (almost all remixes) Monsters Exist: 8 (all remixes) So whatever comes next should hopefully be a little bit more concise.
  6. My apologies to Paul, Phil and all at London Records for throwing shade onto their skills at rinsing every penny from every track. I noticed hayhook's list was missing the edits of Midnight and Choice, too, so the chances of EP drops are higher now.
  7. Looking at it, given that it includes all the tracks from Mutations and III that aren't on the deluxe album (other than the edits), I wonder whether this deluxe digital version means we won't be getting single drops of III and Midnight / Choice. I suppose with the majority of their tracks already being on the deluxe album it does seem like they're less important, although I'd be kind of surprised if they didn't think 12"s would sell. Satan and Belfast would be enough to shift copies of III alone. Similar with Mutations, now all the tracks have been issued I wonder if they'll bother doing a separate release. Feels like a very slight anticlimax if so.
  8. No, the 1996 version is a complete re-recording. Also: for the completists... The 2 Mike Flowers "Mixes" and The Naughty Naughty "Remix" of Chime, and "Belfunk" by Sasha (Rejected Belfast Remix) It's possible these will be saved for later reissues - Satan Spawn I can imagine being alongside the '96 version on the In Sides box, and the Live Style mix I'm sure will be a much-needed piece to try and fill out at least one disc of extras for the Blue Album. As for Christmas Chime, well, let's be honest, nobody actually wants to listen to Christmas Chime.
  9. Absolutely loving this. I love that every time a fairly 'traditional' 36 album comes it out it always seems to be followed by one that does something really different with the sound. This is my favourite in a few years, I think.
  10. That £5 voucher is very generous, meaning they're only expecting me to spend £29.99 to get a handful of (but not all of the!) remixes. I know this is likely London Records's doing but it's fucking awful. Anyway, the book's very nice, comes with some replica flyers, a lot of detail about the album and the tracks, loads of scans of reviews and interviews from the time, a solid hour or more's reading. Would have liked at least a couple of paragraphs on the artwork, I really love Grant Fulton's weirdly idiosyncratic designs, but oh well. He didn't work on the art for the reissue so maybe he wasn't available. Listened to the first two discs so far, it's really nice to have lots of these tracks in high quality, especially Untitled/Torpedo Town. 'Open Mind Jam' is nice but, er, it's actually a jam on 'Omen'. 'The Other One' is ok, bit basic, can tell why it wasn't released. Still a bit sad there's not more in the way of unreleased material, Paul put a few bits on his Soundcloud a few years back that were enjoyable.
  11. Always enjoy Pitchfork's Sunday reviews, they're generally packed with background and historical info and written from someone passionate about the album. Good stuff there, nice to see the nod to Burial, whose earlier material is probably the closest I can think that comes to this album. Interesting that Trans 7 was mastered from a dubplate and so the vinyl crackle is all genuine, too, love little trivia like that.
  12. If they're going to match the order of release then we should have III before the album and Midnight/Choice after, but given that it's out in just over two weeks maybe they'll both be after.
  13. Oh this looks fascinating. That version of Temper is lovely. Still a big fan of the original.
  14. I appreciate that, but it's not the cost of the record that I have an issue with, it's the shipping. If they could just hook up with some UK distro I'd buy one in a shot, but £65 is way out of my price range for one album.
  15. I love how they only sell from their Bandcamp meaning if you want to grab these from another country the cost is fucking extortionate. Was gonna get the Air ones but £60+ for a double album is ludicrous. edit: also Namlook famously hated vinyl so I'm not convinced this is completely honouring his legacy, but it is what it is.
  16. Just realised that Paul's wearing a fucking Crass t-shirt in that picture. God, the irony.
  17. Given that the last couple of albums have come in various formats including Amazon exclusive, NFT and only-available-from-one-website-not-announced-elsewhere-pre-order-only BluRay, I'm not surprised. I have a feeling musicians genuinely have no idea what it's like for fans, but yeah, this kinda shit can fuck off.
  18. Oh that's good news, dislike the idea of Beatport having exclusive access to this stuff.
  19. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if Alex cobbled together material from all his various collaborative projects of late - including the Rendall Orb stuff - he could make a seriously great Orb record out of it. One of the things that makes those early records so great is the collaging together of often quite disparate elements. I do not understand this trend of separating things off into more homogenous side-projects. The best tracks from The Heavens, Enter the Kettle, Yarns from the Chocolate Triangle, SETI and Prism could make a top tier Orb album, instead of four decent but slight side-projects and a largely awful Orb album. Also the first review currently on BC describes this as being "reminiscent of their all-time classic Orblivion". Ah, yes, Orblivion, that album full of acoustic drums, emotive piano and 10 minute droney ambient tracks. Some people.
  20. My initial response to Quaristice was preferring Versions because it felt more like a 'traditional' Ae album, I'm sure that was part of the discussion at the time, that's how it'd sound if it was done in the format of earlier albums. Over time I've really come to love the main album, though, and while the supplementary material has some great stuff, but I'm strangely not champing at the bit for any kind of reissue (not that I'm expecting it anyway - we've not had any other 12"s come out, surprisingly). But yes, I'd imagine the next three will be coming along this year at some point. Might be time for me to reapproach Oversteps, see if I can get on with it now.
  21. Never bothered with the binder, but bought all the 12"s on release. I wish they'd at least come in basic card discobags, though, as they never sit properly on shelves in their plastic things. Should probably do something about this one day. The sleeves are all battered to hell now too. 22. The live shows are being promoted with "new album later this year" so it seems like it's going to be a traditional one. Which I suppose kind of makes sense - Drift went against their expectations, so going in expecting to do a Drift Series 2 and ending up doing a traditional album fits that in a weird roundabout way. Dirty Club is basically a modern update of Dirty, it was released as part of the Drift Series 1 bonus material... guessing Dirty Club Guitar adds in elements of Dirty Guitar. I think you've got all the ones that have been performed live down. I really like Denver Luna still, and both Gene Pool and Strawberry Hotel could be great in final versions, but it does all feel very safe after a lot of the experiments of Drift. Everything so far's been four-to-the-floor for a start.
  23. Don't think collabs are going to be a regular thing, they just clearly clicked with this guy. Album is due out in the summer apparently. Decent track, very Beaucoup Fish.
  24. Remaining singles are Omen, III (Satan / LC1 / Belfast), Midnight/Choice. My guess would be the 'disc 1' releases will get the physical pressing, the remixes will come as digital bonuses like with Chime. To be honest, I don't think many of the mixes from the era are utterly essential, but it'll be nice to have the complete packages, the Chime one is pretty good at an hour long. Still curious to see what they'll do with Mutations, whether it'll be part of this drop series or get its own thing or be ignored. Gonna assume Brown at the end of the year with Radiccio, Lush and Peel Session 12" drops, Sniv with Are We Here? and Times Fly, In Sides with... The Box and... I dunno, is anyone really clamouring for a The Saint 12"?
  25. Just wait for the inevitable 14CD boxset of The Virgin Years.
