My fav "the-raft.co.uk" track : Unreal melodies.
  2. Love this show. Same here ! Started watching Veep too, am at middle of s02. I don't know if I like it or not, but it's a joy to see Julia Louis Dreyfus and Tony Hale in the same show (huge Seinfeld / Arrested Development fan).
  3. (algos by Sean Costello IIRC)
  4. Excellent, thank you Berk ! skibby : some thoughts about Quadraverb and Aphex 90's productions by Valhalla DSP's Sean Costello... Different beasts, used differently.
  5. If you're doing a jungle track with a low heavy bassline, there's lots of chances you'll filter out your kick/drum set under 50Hz to let the bassline breath. And if you HPF the bassline under20/30Hz you'll most likely make it sound better than if it rumbles down to 10Hz... Especially if you do some buss-compression on your drums or 2buss. The opposite goes for a more techno infused track : HPF the kick under 20/30Hz, HPF the bassline under 50/70Hz and every other track up to 200Hz, and the tune will sound heavy as fuck and punchy at the same time :) The same thing applies in the high freqs, but I prefer shelves up there. Anyway my point was that monitor sometimes go pretty low to check that you don't mess everyhting downthere. The cleaner the low freqs, the better the mix : it opens the whole spectrum up. Sorry if this is an obvious mixing routine to y'all,. If not, it took my mixes to the next level when I learnt it, so give it a try. Cleaning the useless LF and HF, as well as proper gain staging make mixing so much easier and more enjoyable.
  6. Lots of (nearfield) monitors go pretty low... but it doesn't mean that all are reliable down there. To me, they often sound artificial in the low-end, with an exaggerated bass response which is misleading. I'm used to my monitors which are super precise down to 50/60Hz but roll off quickly under that, and find them super useful to get those tricky low/low-mids right. A good set of headphones to check the subs et voilà, done. Anyway, HPF everything, from the 30 to 200Hz depending on the source :) 9 times out of 10, super low frequencies are useless, they kill punch and make everything muddy.
  7. Do you have any pics of your plate reverb ? How expensive / tricky is it to build one ? Thanks ! I'd love to buy a Strymon Big Sky someday... but I have a couple of synths to buy first hehe...

Received the LP this morning ("La Poste" too...). Download codes don't work though.

Mont St Michel chilled out eh ? Anyway, Syro : On first listen, I love the more donwtempo ones (damn, the 5 first ones are incredible), as well as papat4 and syro u473t8+e. And Aisatsana is gorgeous. Can't wait to receive the triple LP and Japanese edition CD. Ps: might be the leak (and the fact I can't listen to Syro on my monitors at the moment), but aren't the mixes darker than on his previous albums ?

Funny how the Youtube live bootleg makes it sounds like The Caretaker.

    APHEX TWIN - SYRO

What if they're on there instead of another good track that we could have heard but now don't get to because it was replaced by one we've already heard But they are amazing tracks ! How could it be wrong to finally be able to listen to them properly ? How could poorly recorded live bootlegs on Youtube be close enough to what the tracks really are meant to sound like and convey ? And what if those exclusive tracks weren't as good as Metz/Manchester/Singapore tracks : how frustrating would that be ? "Oh damn, he should have put those unreleased live tracks instead !". No ? There's a huge different between distorted sounds on purpose on a record and a distorted live bootleg with loads of streaming artefacts on top ! If a track's meant to sound saturated/dirty/crappy : perfect ! If a recording sounds like shit (while the original sounds great) because of a bad bootleg : that sucks, big times.

If Metz, Manchester and Singapore tracks are on Syro, there'll still be 9 or 10 (on Japanese edition) new, exclusive ones. Pretty perfect if you ask me : how could the studio versions not be better than those Youtube vids ? Even if poorly recorded, they already sound fantastic : how could it be wrong to have their proper versions ? There'll still be plenty to discover on the record, even in those tunes were familiar with.
  19. ... and another Colundi to the collection : my bank account hates Aleksi ! Those teasers sound absolutely fantastic.

    APHEX TWIN - SYRO

Years ago I had friends who were quite involved into the whole leak scene. They were some of the best at "courrier" (IIRC), which means sending a leak from its source to the most important warez/leak etc... groups, and they earned download privileges from being faster than their rivals. Warez races... Most of the time, the leaks came from the labels, studios, PR agencies, journalists, distributors... so any record is likely to be leaked early, it all depends on one person in the end. So no matter how much Warp secures the release and prevents from piracy, Syro can leak anytime. I can't help thinking though, than those who are lucky enough to already own a copy will keep their precious for themselves the longer they can...

I wonder how long they'll prevent it from leaking. Anyway, do you guys know if it's possible to (partially) cancel a pre-order at bleep ? I bought the LP and CD, not knowing the Japanese edition would have an bonus track. Am considering grabbing the CD from Amazon/HMV.jp instead, even though I'm scared it might turn quite expensive...
