  1. It was just obviously a shitty print that's been shipped around the world many times and has degraded over the years of use. The 70mm print they would have used to restore the film was probably from a variety of different, better preserved, prints. I think the IFI (which was the cinema i saw it in) owns the print I saw
  2. 2001: A Space Odyssey (70mm print) unfortunately it was a pretty shitty print, almost to a point everyone should have been given their money back - felt quite duped...you'd have a better viewing experience on your laptop with a 834mb compressed Bluray rip...no joke however, its still a 2001/10....(10/10) and the greatest film of all time
  3. not to seem like a dingus - but in the interest of others, i posted this a while back in this thread...but with the (arguably) important subtitles:
  4. Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa Definitely better then I thought it would be, being a huge fan i was rather worried as to how it would transition to the big screen - and it did so decently. I think the major problem is that in the episodes the jokes, or rather, awkward moments are allowed to dwell longer, where as in the film the pace and tempo is set much higher so the jokes are thrown at you almost too fast with not enough time to take them all on board - but thats something that i guess will change with future viewings if you're a fan, defo watch it/10 The Third Man crash, bang, wallop, what a video/10
  5. I have Arsenal on DVD - been meaning to watch it forever his films are crying out for a bluray restoration
  6. oh the humanity...feels like a segment from Alan Partridge http://youtu.be/6viUMICL31E
  7. witnessed 16 hours ago...it was...AMAZING 3D was pretty baller too!
  8. Pacific Rim didn't realise it would be as kiddy and cheesy 80s/90's style dialogue - felt like AlienS instead of me thinking it would be playing it straight like Alien. having said that...mucho entertaining and good fun had by all - its the type of film had I seen it when i was a kid, it'd be my favorite film of all time
  9. Sam Jackson and John Brolin. No stars? I agree its a pointless remake but I'm sure it will make money or at least recoup costs Studio's just wont back much original concept ideas anymore - anything that has somewhat of a name and has proven popular that can be re-packaged will be...prepare yourselves speaking of Pacific Rim - a lot is riding on it, its an original concept film in blockbuster form...if it bombs and flops (which unfortunately i'd say it will) will just add fire to this re-make/boot phase of film history
  10. that was most invigorating, thank you. the strobe dancing scene that starts at 12:05 is amaaaazing
  11. Forgot Boyle did Sunshine, god that movie was shit.... Sunshine's an odd one...75% of it is pretty great...but he just suddenly goes and shits all over the film in the last act and turns it into one of the worst things i've ever seen
  12. Last Year at Marienbad some hail it as a masterpiece, others find it incomprehensible/10 I kid...pretty spectacular film, highly innovative, challenging and engaging It may repeat itself at times and drag slightly, but only for the overall good of the point its trying to make
  13. from 16:30 onwards for a few mins is pure lush
  14. The Devils Wow......just wow. It may be a total cliche but: They really don't make em' like that any more! think someone in this thread saw it recently enough? Very very very much recommended - and has inspired me to investigate Ken Russel more potentially goes on a touch too long...but only barely so much unique and interesting bits going on here, near masterpiece scale/10
  15. I'd say start at the beginning and move further up. It's more logical that way, the first movies are the best and you can then stop when it gets too silly for you. That's exactly what I'm gonna do too (watching the fifth today). Perhaps i'm too much of a purist, but i'd recommend watching through the original Star Trek series (1-3) then moving onto the films, then move onto Star Trek: The next generation TV show, watch through the series, then move onto the next generation films. I haven't seen all of them, nor much of them - however i've watched alot of the TV shows - and i find with these sorts of films its best to have prior knowledge, understanding and appreciation for the characters before jumping deep into the films....because at the end of the day, on average, they're not too highly held in the sci-fi film world, just more enjoyable if you know their world and how its works first.
  16. yea i really enjoy them...makes one want to investigate the film further Beyond the Black Rainbow third times a charm, the first two times i had tried to watch this I was either too tired or too inebriated - anywho, love it for what it is. Does exactly what it set out to accomplish style over substance never felt so good/10
