this thread is schoolin me so hard right now. I will admit i havent given much time to visual art, but its about time i did. I have a full notebook page of artists to look into. Thanks to all posters.

 

also, he has been mentioned earlier but, hes my favorite and i want to post Francis Bacon.

In no logical order. Some sidenotes: Of course there is no comparison to seeing these in real life. Rothko, Pollock and Kiefer all translate very poorly. These are all HUGE. William Turner is a great way to transition from impressionism to expressionism. Mondrian is better appreciated if you look at the progression thru his life's work. From tree studies to "Broadway Boogie Woogie". It all makes perfect sense. Love Marden. By the way, thanks for turning me on to Beksinski, Kentridge, Varini, and Rauschenberg (not as familiar with). I could go on all day.

Yeah, they are big enough to encompass your visual field. On top of that, they really glow. It was like a religious experience.
