I am debating between two places. One is very dark, however it has new appliances. The bathrooms are a tad nicer. Hardwood floors. Brick fireplace (which will never be used).

The other is a bit older, but the natural light is fantastic. The rooms are sunny. The living room is sunny. There is a balcony with some great plant life sitting just outside. The appliances in it are older and the bathrooms arent as nice. But in my opinion, if I am living in a place, I need natural light. Otherwise, Ill get depressed.

My roommate doesnt really care as much about the natural light aspect. Thats why it makes this decision so hard. I wish I could be like, yeah not a big deal. But it is.

Is the newer apartment dark for a reason, or did you just visit it on a different/overcast day?

The bedroom windows and the living room windows face a building. The window near the door faces a courtyard where a shaft of light beams down onto a little garden. We visited it twice, both different times of day which were pretty sunny. So I think the darkness is a consistent feature of the unit. There's just no good way for light to get in.

I'd go for the cleaner/applicanes, just go outside more

Inside you can create your own lighting atmosphere. Nothing beats a new/clean place to say without worrying about things breaking down.

Yeah, I mean, going outside would be great, but in the other unit I can go outside by sitting on the balcony you know? And we can have a grill out there. Do a BBQ once in awhile.

Going outside in the dark place means sitting on the steps in front of the building.

appliances can be replaced.

go with the nice natural light one, then

1. decide what old appliance is most critical/important to you

2. accidentally break said appliance

3. get landord to replace said appliance

as long as you have a gas stove (and not electric) at the place w/more natural light, hands down that's your choice.

lol, yes!

I'm thinking these are one-unit apartments, and you really don't have a choice of alternate units, right?

Theres some alternate options at a much higher cost, which we cant afford.

Yeah we have an electric one now, those are pretty crappy. Especially when youre brewing a giant kettle of beer.

Will natural light get you laid?

Natural light can't hurt. A dark apartment can though. Unless youre inviting over a hooker from craigslist. Then it doesnt matter.

I'd choose the one with less light, bright natural lighting is the last thing you're going to want when you're working over weeds lifeless snatch gazing down at her gigantic cratered nipples.
