Stupidest font ever?

Why do people think Comic Sans is so stupid? It's a totally legible font, and does its job, looking playful and yet clean -- perfect for teachers.

My nomination for stupidest font is Hirosh:

It's the kind of gimmicky typeface that can only be used by three '90s dance/rock crossover bands before it turns to jazz.

Another nomination would be whatever the standard display font is for this forum. It saves some horizontal space, but it's so narrow and tightly packed, it can be a burden to read.

That's why I like Verdana better, because the letterforms are rounder even when it's tiny. Verdana 8-point bold is one of my favorites.

For me, it would be a tossup between Comic Sans and Papyrus.

Oh god Papyrus, the font ever fucking design client wants or says "is there anything similar to that?"

I used to have a serious hage for Times New Roman because there was some bugs associated with it and Canon printing equipment whereby the printer driver won't print any of the punctuation, but that has passed and my hage has subsided.

I hate fonts all around though, mainly because I spend too much time paging through fonts with clients who like every font but want it to be a 'little different'.

There's this one that used to come with Windows, that I can't remember the name of -- the letter 'I' is fat in the middle and narrower on top and bottom, and it has a kind of triangular shape to all the vertical bars, almost like ... an 'island' look? Lots of restaurants end up using this dumb font. I thought it began with a 'T' but I couldn't find it ...

If someone knows what I'm on about, I'll give them a kiss.

David Carson NIN album cover typography edit: The letter 'i' in this font has a small circle on top of that fat-middled vertical stroke.

reason for disliking bleeding cowboys:

yes... in that context it's no good... my friends band was kinda punk, country, psychobilly... so it fit their aesthetic!

people seem to put more effort into making up names for their fonts than in actually making the font itself, an dat i dun get innit

Comic Sans is nice when you use it what it's made for: comic speech bubbles. And it can be nice in other situations too. Just because millions of people don't know how to use it, doesn't make it an inherently bad font.
