It's not even Dave Gahan at his most David Gahan-iest Yeah, but it's not just about the voice for me, but also the sparse arrangement, how bare and stripped-down it feels. Both covers are sort of reducing the original to its essence, and while the Alva Noto one is probably superior and even more transformative, both have touched me deeply at various times.
