My album is finally out!

This whole self-promo thing makes me feel a little weird, but I know there are a few watmmers who would be interested to know that my album has finally been released:

I'm not sure what to say about it beyond that I am very proud of the end result, and I hope many others here will enjoy it.

I'd like to thank everyone who has ever offered feedback to tracks I've posted in YLC. It's entirely possible an adjustment or two have been made thanks to some valuable comments I received back in the day.

Here is the insert, since apparently bleep doesn't include that with downloads: http://hphotos-snc6.fbcdn.net/194052_207033895980757_196408420376638_960173_5852186_o.jpg

--the image is a closeup section of the cover, which was painted by my insanely artistically gifted friend Dan Ainslie. Prints of the cover are available to those who want them.

Feels good to finally get all that spam out of my system... thanks guys.

Congrats

I hate buying digital only albums, but I'm heavily considering it in this case, since the samples are sounding so good. How'd you manage to get Vector Lovers to do a remix?

Heheh, I hear you man. I only ever buy physical releases, so it is odd having a digital only release. The short-lived label I was on before I got picked up by evive contacted Vector Lovers about remixing a song, and he agreed to it. Originally it was going to be released as a single separate from the album, which is why it's listed as a bonus track.

And thanks!

It used to have a cool aesthetic I enjoyed where it showed half the wav form of whatever track you were listening to. I wonder why they got rid of that.

Anyway, yeah the mono start/stop format of the bleep player is hella annoying. There's a much better quality preview of the album selections here for anyone who's not sold on the bleep previewer:

(They seemed to pick the more melodic floaty sections from my album to showcase, but rest assured there's plenty in the way of crunchy schizoid beat work to enjoy as well.)

Thanks Jim!

They didn't let you make your own preview? Yeah, having listened to the album a ton, they do pick some odd portions of some of these tracks.

It's not that they didn't let me make one, they just happened to make one first and it's already posted. There seems to be a particular tone in some of my tracks that they really like, so they focused on that specific vibe with the preview.

  • 3 weeks later...

I just discovered it's up on beatpport as well, which has a much better previewer in my opinion, gives a better idea of how the album actually sounds (albeit in very low quality): https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/track/catalog?contextEntityId=13950&contextName=eViVE+Records&contextType=labels&pageNumber=1&resultsPerPage=13#app=f84&a486-index=0

... haha, i wonder what the crunchier bits sound like nao.

+ yeah, good job son. Sounds like you've been working hard/well on these.

Thanks! There are a few tracks on there that underwent numerous revisions over the years, and others that came together very fast in the months preceding the release. For some extra crunchy beats check the Submergence preview on beatport. Searching for Signals, Possessed and Subway Citadel (check the latter half of that sample) have some decent crunch to 'em as well. There was a definitely a greater focus on the melodic side of my music for this album. Next time around I'll probably go for something more dystopian to balance things out. :diablo:

It sounds really good for what its worth, I'm on a total spending embargo at the moment so I can't buy it but I would otherwise, and hopefully I will later

Thanks a lot guys! Feels good to hear such positive feedback like that after putting so much time and energy into something like this.

If anyone has any suggestions for places to send it for review, that would really help me out. So far I feel like watmms is my sole promo outlet for this thing, and I gosta spread the word! :braindance:

  • 1 year later...

Well, this album finally got its first review a year and a half later. And it's a very positive one:

http://needsmorenoisegate.blogspot.ca/2012/12/album-review-zephyr-nova-shatterscapes.html

The reviewer requested it from me after someone told him I had other non-noise projects --he reviewed my Cthulhu Detonator album last month and hated it, but I enjoyed the review nevertheless. Anyway, he's looking for more independent releases to review, so feel free to send him stuff. Just be aware that experimental electronic isn't what he normally listens to and he's very honest with his reviews. Seems like a pretty cool guy.
