you could try creating a new profile in firefox and see if that makes a difference.

https://support.mozi...naging-profiles

the current beta version has a reset feature that starts a new profile and automatically imports your info.

https://blog.mozilla...-is-like-magic/

or actually, before you do this you could try disabling your addons and see if it makes a difference. if it does, re-enable them one by one until you find out which one is causing trouble.

These Youtube threads are a damn menace. I would love to check out all the Hip Hop people are suggesting here but at best one of those full pages of YT videos crashes my browser (chrome/windows) and at worst it slows my computer down so that I have to restart.

Isn't there some better way to handle these types of threads?

i5 Pavillion g6 with 4gb of ram, on firefox (or Waterfox - better on 64bit OS' (apparently))

when i enter a thread with lots of embedded yt links, it's slow JUST on loading up, then it's fine

I suppose you could use an addon or extension that blocks Flash, allowing you to selectively click on which Flash objects load...

Has anyone tried removing Flash and seeing if the HTML5 versions of Flash videos get served up instead? I know there's a flag for that in YouTube... perhaps if I changed the BBCode to include that flag automatically, it might help?

html5 is great, soundcloud did it perfectly. their players are good.

youtube's html5 players though, are buggy - atleast in my experience :derp:

As far as I can tell the board software always renders the media tags directly to a Flash embed so a HTML5 fallback with that embed method is not possible. It should use the newer iframe embed method which do fallback to HTML5: https://developers.g...ayer_parameters

Yes, but the BBCode is editable. For example, I've added a SoundCloud HTML5 player BBCode that will allow people to have SC players in their links again, or in posts.

Just tried to edit the YouTube BBCode in the Media BBCode tag to support HTTPS... didn't quite work out as I expected.

This should work for both https links and as a replacement for the Flash embed.

Media replacement match:

https?://(www.)?youtube.com/watch\?(\S+?)?v=([\d\w-_]+?)(&\S+?)?

Media replacement HTML:

<iframe frameborder="0" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/$3"></iframe>

This.

But generally, this;

when i enter a thread with lots of embedded yt links, it's slow JUST on loading up, then it's fine

Im all for telling WATMMers whats good to check out but do we have to stuff our posts with YT videos? I know its a quicker way of checking suggested tunes but really I cant be bothered to check them all when theres seven in each post. Id much rather check one or two and be advised that certain artists/tracks are worth a listen.

I should have disclosed that I'm on an older Netbook with 1gb ram and only 1.6ghz processor but that should totally be good enough for browsing any forum, innit??

I wonder if it would make a difference if everyone in a major video thread started putting their videos in spoilers?

I'm on a core 2 duo laptop from 2009 and big youtube threads open slowly here as well, has gotten significantly worse a few firefox updates ago, might have to do with all the blocking apps like ghostery installed? Can't even imagine the suckiness browsing on a netbook :)

in firefox you can go to about:config and set plugins.click_to_play to true. chrome has a similar feature too.
