  1. thing i did while working to improve my general artstyle - i love multipixelation and square patterns, still pretty basic but i'm learning new shit.
  2. A Series of Four Interrelated Forms: East (ritual blood portals) Meets West (elevators)

  3. Death Grips somewhat forgotten s/t debut ep - I forget how nuts that percussion in Full Moon (Death Classic) is.
  4. this looks decent - has potential with Gareth Edwards at the helm (well, besides the usual massive studios trying to milk it for cash)
  5. Happy People: A Year in the Taiga - 8/10 - interesting and well edited documentary that puts the focus on its subjects to provide the necessary information. Dead Man - 7/10 - Beautiful film, and my favorite performance by Johnny Depp i've seen. This is a story that feels like it carries an old soul with it... Has a few flaws imo but they aren't anything worth getting into. Great experience.
  6. Room 237 - 4.5/10 - Abuses its position to spread a falsified and absurd image of film analysis to the masses. Utter shit. Chasing Amy (rewatch) - 7.5/10 - Pretty perfect at what it sets out to do. Tears the modern media rom-com/love story to shreds, and builds interesting relationships on top of the pile. Its like a shit buddy comedy that slowly realizes whats wrong with itself over the course of the runtime and brings up a bunch of unique questions about sexuality and emotion.
  7. 12 Years a Slave - 7.5/10 - Acting is fantastic, cinematography is great, albeit a bit forced. Soundtrack was Hans Zimmer throwaway shit though - really quite distracting. Still a pretty great film though. Only God Forgives - 6.5/10 - Absolutely gorgeous, fantastic soundtrack, perfect setting, shite characters, symbolism, pacing, and plot. Would not watch again. Europa Report - 7/10 - Entertaining and unique little sci-fi with some decent low budget visual fx.
  8. Death Grips - Government Plates - 7.5/10 - Has some really strong tracks (some of the best I've heard from the project), but falls apart as it goes on. Runtime isn't too lengthy, however, so although it does get progressively weaker, it doesn't drag on for too long. El-P - Fantastic Damage - 7/10 Kevin Greenspon/Former Selves - Betrayed by the Angels/Apropos of Golden Dreams - 8/10 - Fantastic ambient split LP - Kevin is a great dude, and he uses some super interesting techniques live. Truth and Falling is the track I would recommend you check out if you look into this at all. Nujabes - Modal Soul - 8/10 - Ah.....
  9. All is Lost - 8/10 - This was an incredible film. Not only were the visuals mind-blowing and incredibly realistic, but the sound design was impeccable. The creaking ambience of the boat was ridiculously detailed and really created a brilliant atmosphere. The soundtrack was unreal. Bone-chilling and haunting, the swells and subtle ambience are fantastic. Roughly a page of dialog in this btw, and it was some of the best writing I've ever experienced. The film opens with a beautiful passage revealing some possible backstory for the lead character, but leaves everything else to the viewer. Redford's expressions carry the narrative perfectly, leaving you to ponder what he is feeling and what is driving him to go on. Certain set pieces also hint at possible emotional implications, but they are faint and brief, and do not distract you from the situation playing out. Some may feel that this is just another carbon copy of the "stuck in the middle of the ocean" narrative seen before, but I disagree. This is the only survival thriller I've seen that feels perfectly balanced and crafted in all regards.
  10. I think I can recall awhile back one of you guys said something about how hard it is to leave home because you always feel the need to produce stuff, but I was just wondering if there are any tracks of yours that come to mind that at least stemmed from somewhere besides the studio? I know I often find myself braindead in my studio space with so many options surrounding me - I need a change of scenery to influence the creative headspace now and then. Is this something either of you can attest to?
  11. Is the sample at the end of Tewe a cat purring? Is it your cat? (Completely serious, that is one of my favorite moments in music ever)
  12. My PE class (which is now way better than my original one cause i finally got to switch - awesome) sprung the mile run on us today. I have yet to get proper attire for class as my sweatpants have gone missing, so i've been wearing loose elastic-y jeans for now. So, I had to run a mile in jeans and a small tight shirt that i'm basically ready to throw away. Gained almost a minute extra compared to my latest mile - ugh. Whatever... At least I'm in a good class now, and I'm glad I got the exercise.
  13. Twin Peaks didn't grip me at first, but upon starting again from the beginning i'm totally fascinated with it. i know, i'm late to the party.

  15. Since i have not yet transferred all my Steam stuff over to my new computer, I've been playing a bunch of little standalone indie games and in-browser stuff. Right now I'm playing Clicking Bad, which is essentially Cookie Clicker but with meth. I am a multi-millionaire atm and have negotiated every dea raid so far. Yay.
  16. Carrie - This was ridiculously bad. Complete lack of tension, hardly any suspense built up at all. And with a story like Carrie, the tension and suspense are absolutely crucial elements because of what they are building up to. Carrie eventually loses control because of the accumulated abuse, ridicule and torture she goes through, but in this remake, there is no buildup, as she seems to be somewhat in control at all times. She just seems pissed off when the climax comes around (which lasts about 3 measly minutes btw). King's Carrie eventually levels a town with her rage; rage that has up till the climax been building and building to seemingly no end. Kim's Carrie feels like a psa about bullying complete with an unrealistic portrayal of high school pressure that takes itself too seriously. The end result of Carrie's "rage" in this adaptation is a few burnt up blocks and less than half the body count of the classic tale. It's almost as if they knew they weren't building enough tension to deserve the classic prom massacre so they trimmed it to shit. Combine the horrible lack of tension/development with sub-par writing and an awful soundtrack and you get Kim Peirce's Carrie. I know most people would just pass it off as "yeah, another shit remake," but come on. A director as unique as Peirce and a story as classic as Carrie should have worked interestingly together. But apparently she had no involvement with writing the damn thing. Only points I give are for the lead actresses. Julianne Moore is fucking incredible as Margaret White (this sums up her portrayal pretty well). Moretz as Carrie was good, but as previously stated, her character and development were atrocious so I found it hard to appreciate her performance. Judy Greer also did a decent job. 5/10
  17. Clutchy Hopkins - The Life of Clutchy Hopkins - 8/10 Drexciya - Grava 4 - 8/10 Oneohtrix Point Never - Replica (re-listen) - 7/10 Oneohtrix Point Never - r Plus 7 (re-listen) - 9/10 Tim Hecker - Virgins - 9/10
