  1. Ooh i like where youre going with that. Ive actually been going into old snippets of tracks I made on Reason that I haven't done anything with & slowing down the tempo, and adding a lot of reverb and rolling off the highs, and some sound very cool. There's one that's this cheesy thing I did with a muted guitar sample that keeps repeating, a hokey 909ish beat and these ridiculous samples of girls moaning- some free Reason library someone gave me back in 2003 that includes sex sounds... The samples sound like an absurd mix of payper view Spice channel from 1994, anime porn sounds, and 80s cinemax softcore lol... Anyway, after i slowed down the beat and tweaked it, it sounded like a cross between some release off the Fortune 500 label- maybe Global Market, Arabic/Greek dance tv from 96 and a lo-fi Diplo track... Hmmm maybe ill Donovan Hikaru-fy it (: errr uhh, i mean maybe Donovan will bless the track and release it to the world (:
  2. Nice stuff! Been really digging Macross lately.. this track's more along the Saint Pepsi/funky disco-house tip, but so good:
  3. holy shit.. that's terrifying and awesome. hypotically madenning. almost hard to withstand lol
  4. So awesome, someone did a sort of play on CRS (Consumer Recreation Services) from the movie, The Game... http://catsystemcorp.bandcamp.com/album/consumer-recreation-services What's confusing to me is what's sampled in all of these releases and what's not... It's really hard to tell sometimes.. but im gonna have to go with guessing that this release is all samples/mashups of various samples... There's a sort of vintage/organic/authentic quality to the music loops in many vaporwave releases, but given the increasing ability to capture the 80s and 90s sound along with some people's awesome skill at fm synthesis, and then add that to using vhs/tape emulators or even recording onto those actual mediums, and it becomes essentially impossible to know whether it's sampled or not. There are obvious cases when you hear disco/soul or straight up over the top smooth jazz productions that are masterfully engineered, I think it's safe to assume those are sample based. But for the stuff in between, you really never know unless you ask the artist. I think this, in itself, makes the genre so fascinating.. because that confusion almost makes you not care where the source comes from, and just enjoy it, cuz it's often so mysterious.. but there's that constant lingering question of whose behind it all.. it's like the Anonymous of music.
  5. Ooh great forum.. Just had a really weird/ fascinating dream last night... I was working at some store that sells escalators (yes, escalators lol). There was a kitchen there, and I brought some fast food inside to eat on my lunch break, I think I must have worked there, in the kitchen... There was this creepy looking woman eyeing me from around a corner in the kitchen as I was taking sips of my soda. She was baking something I think. She seemed mad at me. Then, the owner and I talked- She was a professional, very salesy store owner. My girlfriend and I were shopping around, looking for things, and i think we were wanting one of the escalators. I think we must have borrowed it/rented it out or something, but it was still in the store, so it was like ours, but not. Then, time went by and all the steps on the escalator started to crack and crumble and fall apart, and everyone that was currently standing on it was told to hurry and get off. The sales lady got upset with me, and told me that I wasn't taking care of the escalator, and that I needed to water it in order to not have it dry out and fall apart lolol. And so that's why it fell apart cuz I didn't water it. My girlfriend and I were now being forced to pay for the damage (and/or the escalator as a whole), which the sales lady said will run somewhere between $50,000- $175,000. We were shocked. Then I woke up.
  6. hmm so many good ones.. this is tough. i'll say the worst one i saw was one my girlfriend and i recently watched... room 236. (various conspiracy theories about kubrick's the shining).. although i only got through 20 mins of it before passing out. she said watched like 40 mins more and it was absurd (not in a good way). i remember the terrible sound/audio mixing and the preposterous conspiracy theories random people had dreamed up. maybe if we had started watching it with an expectation of humor and goofiness, it would have actually been fun though. lol
  7. Whoa, just took a trip to the Fed Ex/Kinkos on my lunch to make some copies, and stumbled into some very nice eco/ island/travel vapors while I was there... Wait to go Kinkos/Fedex! (sorry for the sideways photos my phone takes) (: P.S. I totally wanted to buy that calendar, but it was pricey.. like $11.. i guess it's for island jet setters!
  8. Wow, this is really good- thanks for the tip, gmanyo! Haha, YES! You should totally do that experiment of making a really boring video and pay like 10 bucks to have a bunch of bots and random ppl from Southeast Asia comment on it. That would be beyond vaporwave lol Sick! This article actually influenced me to check out more of Auto, and Lindsheaven Virtual Plaza's stuff.. Brilliant! I ended up purchasing Auto's "Line One" (it's all on-hold music/automated voices from various eras with various companies slightly warped and arranged into weird laid back tracks- -so good- fell alsleep to it last night). - http://ailanthusrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/line-ne Also purchased a limited cassette and digital copy of Lindsheaven's Nordwrong (http://lindsheavenvirtualplaza.bandcamp.com/) really good stuff too.. more downtempo/trip hop vibe, but still kinda kitschy and very weather-channel related. Looking forward to the tape coming.. it's limited to 30, so i had to grab one
  9. I stopped listening to this on my soundcloud stream earlier today when that "Time to toke" comment came up. It was in sheer anger. thats actually not that angering of a comment for me, you should seriously see some of these soundcloud accounts where people pay a chinese company to get them 3,000 + followers. They almost seem like they are generated with an algorithm. 'this part RIGHT HERE' 'Siiiiick beatz yo' stuff like that LOLOLOLOL!!!! Sheathe, yeah I saw that too, and got a little upset (: John, totally. What's funny is a band that I was in/wrote/produced with for a while that had a pretty decent national following in the indie powerpop/electropop world ended up using those kinds of services. I was so pissed because being part of the music, I didn't want to have anything to do with such comment spam garbage.. It was a Youtube vid that we had 50k views (of which i truly believe most were legit-- they actually actually hired the marketing team after a lot of views gathered).. anyway, after around 40 some k views, there started to show up comments like: "Suuuuuuuuuuuuubbb S C R I B E D!!" "music hits bests!" "great" "subbed" "love your channel, thanks" "keep it up" "wow music" "how did you learn to DO that?" "instant fan" "american iiiiidols!" "keep it up and you'll get right to the top!!!" "rockin!" and last but not least, those ones that truly absurd like: "on your waaaay 3*78 ht) to? stardom music!"
  10. Just came across some new sexy vapors from ULTRA ウルトラ.. Nice stuff... [sc5]123409094[/sc5]
  11. AAAAAHHHHH!!!!! Fuck. No wonder why this track and the whole album mostly gave me an eerily familiar sense of something. Esp this track... lovemaking on the train. God, what an awesome scene. awesome music (tangerine dream's from the actual soundtrack of course- but GC's play on it too). awesome movie. wonder if Global Communication's track was intentional or not. I kinda feel like it's probably unintentional.
  12. I will partake. Speaking of, reminds me of Parkay... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leQsRqMN230 This is nice! DAT SAX! lol.. I love this. Kinda reminds me of Sandra Bullock in The Net. Someone needs to vaporize a scene from here and add music (:
  13. ^ this is why im moving to LA next year. only this reason. for those sights and sounds. ***Starts puring a Schwepps*** ***Puts on a Members Only jacket from Grandpa's closet***
  14. Seriously, ya'll... PEEP this. .. (Victor Feldman's Generation Band- super mix of their music from the mid 80's). Incredible. http://youtu.be/6pBHOr7Xwzw
  15. ^ lol that should totally be a postcard! (nice font)
  16. I'll toast to that with a spritzer. Like a scene straight outta PrismCorp Virtual Enterprises "Home".. or even "ClearSkies" Love it! Those look so good.
  17. Harpsichord tuning fixed... Thanks Sheathe! let's travel!
  18. Drop that sax by like 30 cents and you will be shimmering ... (Parasailing) dude, thank you sheathe! im gonna do that and re-upload (:
  19. Oh.. and now this.... "Parasailing Inc, San Tablos" ... the new release of original music from Donovan from the spirit of the islands. This time, he's taking us on a contemporary canned Jazz journey through tropical islands, and he decided to make a stop outside a local travel agency building to show us his cool, windy, breezy, delightful spirit... a journey that can only be understood by listening: http://youtu.be/50MfVhfqyQA P.S. I need your help on this one guys, I think the harpsichord synth was detuned wrong from the start, cuz the sax notes are sitting a bit weirdly, like the notes seem a tiiiiiny bit sharp or flat... but maybe that's just my imagination? I can't tell (: Maybe it adds to the dreamy/slightly off-ness? or should i tune it by a few notches? thaaaaaanks.
  20. ^ weird glowy creepy simpson's gif, whataburger 24/7 sign, tina turner and bowie making orgasmic singing faces over a neon static screen... bill gates yacht.. weird 3d animated architectural models of future malls. god, this is my favorite thread of all time. i wouldnt wanna be anywhere else. :D
