  1. Alas, my setup and workflow encourage using only plugs for effects (aside from spring reverb recorded during production itself, sometimes inside a patch rather than at the end). I think most people would be hard pushed to tell what anyone's using anyway, let alone care. So I barely used my QuadraVerb, U-220 or DrumStation, so Nina insisted I get rid of them, which admittedly was a sensible move. I also sold a bunch of modules I wasn't using, including a Metasonix one. I'm more than happy with my current rig though. Which is now this (plus 808 style maracas I haven't installed yet, because I've been too busy writing): That setup looks amazing!
  2. You turned your back on the mighty and holy QuadraVerb? Heathen!
  3. I would say: Before you dismiss any film Make sure you're not looking for 'naturalism' at the wrong spot up the tree of abstraction This was China Mieville's diagnosis of 20th century sci-fi: There are *other* places to put naturalism besides the bottom-most concrete level (Hell, you might even put it all at the top, and have that play out at the lower levels Like a Brothers Grimm fairy tale or a Greek myth)
  4. Just to review: What is the ship called? 'The Prometheus' What/who the hell was Prometheus? He was the god of forethought and technology What happened to the ship? It failed fucking miserably The micro-details of the film are perfectly in tune with that notion/diagnosis
  5. Prometheus had a great script...If you look at the moves it was making higher up the tree of abstraction. If you think the script was bad because certain characters acted foolish(ly) or irrational(ly)...well yeah, that's literally the entire point of the film, and at every level, too: from their simple (atomistic) behaviors, to their broad(est)-scale existential strategy. (Why? Because the latter emerges from--and is entirely comprised of--the former.) If you think the script was bad because of alleged plot holes...well, maybe just double check to make sure you didn't miss anything.
  6. Are you an expert in psychology of internet? ;) TW: 'Scuse me, while I 'LimpyLoo' *bwow wow waaah bwow wow waaah bwow wow waaah* LimpyLoo, dup in this thread... People can't seem to agree about whether Prometheus was *about* anything And for some strange reason, nobody seems to want to read it through the lens of mythology and archetype (Despite the fact that's it's literally called "Prometheus") And instead their reading is a bit 'on the spectrum' and they can't imagine there's *anything* of value in there Well, maybe glance it over again just to make sure you're not missing anything In classical mythology, what the hell are people talking about when they talk about gods and people 'defying' gods? Here's a way you might look at it: (e.g.) your hypothalamus is a god that hands down 'divine commands' to you At some point in the near future, you will get hungry Your hypothalamus is like an ancestral biological voice whispering in your ear that you need to eat...or else. But your hypothalamus isn't responsible for the "or else" It's just giving you awesome advice so you don't die Your moral intuitions are also gods telling you to 'do X...or else' 'I should pay this bill right now' 'I should change the litter box' 'I shouldn't eat this entire block of cheese' The "or elses" are just built into the world and can't be circumvented, no matter how cynical you wanna be about them So what the hell does this have to do with Prometheus? Humanity has "defied--and thus angered--the gods" Meaning: we have neglected to do something we know we should be doing, because we are blind and arrogant about which walls are holding back all the Chaos Monsters That sounds about fucking right to me
  7. Trump just tweeted about how the biggest danger right now is maniacs with nukes
  8. 'Twas but a shitpost, I'm afraid. Or an E.E. Cummings-esque hyper-minimalist zen poem about the proper way to orient oneself against the brutal winds of chaos.
  9. "The gates are being stormed" Well, every gate is always being stormed to one degree or another. Okay, so what should we do about it? Nuclear arms race? Muslim Database? Pondering the "Jewish question" again (as much of the Alt-Right is indeed doing)? Well, having a national immune system that is *too* sensitive to deviations from pure order is how we get the auto-immune disease of fascism.
  10. And in the meantime, Sam Hyde can provide 'ironic' color commentary for the final Highlander-esque race reckoning.
  11. I can't tell if this is an addendum or a rebuttal to my post (on account of my stage-5 Autism), but I hope it's crystal clear by now how I feel about the Alt-Right and their fantasy of a nation-wide gated-community paradise. (And I hope it's also clear I'm not making excuses for racism and bigotry...) I think that so long as the left and right are actually talking and listening to each other, then you generally don't get extremism and reactionism like we're seeing now. I mean, how/why the hell did we get Ronald Reagan after all the moral and cultural progress made in the 60's? Well, it probably wasn't because of fake news. Perhaps the leftward shift in the wake of the 60's increasingly disenfranchised the threat-concerned righties, and it reached a breaking point where the only one taking their concerns seriously was the muppet from that Genesis video. (Again--to explain is not to excuse)
  12. If I can play Devil's Advocate for a second and try to offer a non-judgmental assessment... All of this assumes that lefties and righties have identical values and concerns, and that one side merely has facts the other isn't privy to. But whatever is going on, dismissing literally all of their concerns across the board and calling them dumb doesn't strike me as either wise or fair. One thing to consider might be that the (Alt-)Right is concerned with minimizing (both real and imagined) threats to their lives and livelihoods, whereas the Left is concerned with maximizing the higher aspects of society and culture (e.g. Egalitarianism, Science). There do appear to be actual biological and neuropsychological bases for political affiliation, and if that's true then the solution to (e.g.) the Alt-Right can't possibly be more facts and better think-pieces.
  13. Well, a couple years ago I would've agreed. Now I think a studio (or any space) should be optimized towards letting you do whatever it is you wanna do. Otherwise it's not 'a studio' so much as 'an obstacle course between you and your goals'.
