  1. yea, communism has never harmed anyone "but we've never had full communism" Dunno, I think countries that declared themselves communist like the Soviet Union or modern China are very far from being communist or even socialist in the sense thinkers like Marx thought about it, it's more of a selfcongratulatory euphemistic label they give themselves to hide the deeply authoritarian nature of these systems. But what does that have to do with the alt-right? It's a bit silly to think nationalists, white supremacists and climate deniers aren't that bad because there were other political forces that are really bad too that's not the point, the point is if you're going to be against radical thinking you dont get to be against it in only one front its also irrelevant if true communism/socialism ever has existed. whenever a leader has promised to bring about said utopias nothing but starvation and death has ensured You are talking about the Horseshoe theory which is simplifying but I see what you are on about. Though bringing up the crimes of so called socialist leaders of the past in a discussion about the modern alt-right comes across as whataboutism. It's okay to call people like Trump what they are. As for radical thinking. I think being radical isn't automatically a bad thing. Some great achievements of our time like voting right for women were unthinkable and very radical thoughts a few decades ago but that doesn't make it wrong. Different topics require different kinds of thinking. Is not the horseshoe theory so much as what has been proven to lead to catastrophe historically you're right about radical thinking, I don't know what the correct term would be for "ideas that have historically been proven to be murderously pathological" is I see how my position could be read as whataboutism, what I have been pushing generally is to prevent one sided critique.. edit: I also dont see how calling trump an incompetent clown, altough true (be it in a idm forum or very loudly with lots of baloons) really solves anything.. I think pointing the finger at the way certain political forces manipulate people for the interest of a small group of egocentrics that don't care about common good is never wrong

  4. but there are good reasons to dislike nationalists, racists and climate change deniers because they actually harm people (and plants and animals)
  5. and some more lice bcs you guys seemed to like them:
  6. ^I get what you say about that harsh direct sunlight from above, it really can ruin a lot but at the same time is exactly the right thing for a certain kind of picture. Harsh contrasts and lots of black areas can look nice but it's difficult to make good use of it. I have no idea how you get the exposure and everything right when shooting analogue on film with this light tho. Here are some more photos:
  7. Gandu - an Indian surreal art-house film about jerking off basically, twas good

  9. there definitely are strains of mentality passed down from dark and ugly generations of the past. i see a mechanism in which children are raised by parents who are fearful of retribution from groups they may have wronged. the children don't get the full story but fully absorb the visceral defensiveness and tribalism. you see it in the demon eyes of racists and gun nuts. the majority of americans have not been behind things like iraq, vietnam, or even afghanistan, as it was executed. at least not after the misleadings of ill-advised politicians became clarified. Yes, it's a shame that this majority isn't represented by the government
  10. Tablet is the diminutive form of table like book - booklet, pig - piglet etc.
  11. @michael jackson: I really enjoy your photos, you have a good eye for a balanced composition. Also your pics work well together because you use the same filter for them all. I especially like that out of airplane (?) shot of the islands. I recommend you to get a nice editing app so you can make your own colour edits instead of making use of preset filters tho. Not bcs it looks better but bcs it's more your own then, I guess. But fuck it, looks good that way @oscillik: Very pretty shots as usual. They really capture the atmosphere of the place you are in. Maybe that's even more prominent to someone who is not where you are. Really beautiful colours
  12. let's hope for the best. maybe it's good to read that chistopher clark book where he compares modern times with the time shortly before first world war. i've been told it's pretty good https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Clark
  13. How is the US any different than Dutch, British, or French imperialism? Not disagreeing with you necessarily, just failing to see how the US is any different than the main colonizers throughout history other than the US being more relevant (generationally). Personally I figure it's the same shit, with the exception that our generation is witnessing the US do its thing now, with our access to information being at a species high. the wars that happened in europe, namely first and second world war, sensitized european countries for war at least to an extend because a lot of europeans died in these wars but only few americans. i mean germany and france and the UK still help carrying on american wars in several ways. but the forces in these countries that don't want that any longer and that are actually politically relevant are stronger than in the US as far as I can see but I might be mistaken
  14. what to expect from the most militant country in the world. this country was founded on basis of eradication of other cultures. american culture is racist to the core, militant and semi-fascist and selfcongratulatory about it in an exasperatingly nonreflective way. it's the only western country that views war as a normal and appropriate mean of politics. even the french government at least tries to appear moral, not the american. fortunately a lot of americans are well educated and selfaware about this shithole of a nation they live in. i wish all those reasonable and smart americans and the rest of the world a future free of american terrorism
  15. I bought a can of olives without pips but one of the olives had a pip.
  16. Okay, I just googled that and it seems that there really was a time when IIII was used instead of IV (as an exception to the rule) because "IV" was not only a number but also an abbreviation for the God Jupiter (IVPITER) and they wanted to avoid misunderstandings. But in later variations of Latin when Jupiter didn't play that much of a role anymore they changed it to IV (which makes more sense).
  17. IIII is wrong. Whoever took a Latin class knows that it's IV. Also only because you remember the Latin numbers weren't placed circularly facing the center instead of linearly doesn't mean it hasn't always be like this. Of course there are a lot of clock designs around but when it comes to Latin numbers correct Latin numbering with the numbers facing the center of the circle is more common. When it comes to Arabic numerals they usually aren't facing the center of the clock. Only because you remember it differently doesn't mean it always was differently. I'm still not sure what you are on about. Maybe it's time to give us some sort of explanation. You seriously talked to random people on the streets about that? Honestly, are you taking the piss or are you seriously that crazy? What gave you those ideas that made you do this?
  18. Usually those old fuckers love life so much that they would sacrifice 40 young virgins to live half a year longer so they can watch folk music shows and vote conservatives.
