  1. Even though I promised myself I wasn't going to spend money on modules any more this year, I did jump @ the eurorack Benjolin PCB group buy and dropped the cash for 2 boards and I'm talking with Magpie Modular for a set of panels while simultaneously getting myself on the Pusherman PCB/Panel group buy for a few other PCB/Panel sets
  2. Forgot I pulled the trigger on this Kickstarter months ago but it randomly showed up in the mail today -- Gechologic Gecho Loopsynth Very neat little open source box with photoresistor, magnetic response, and contact mic controls + lots of open connections on the board allowing one to add MIDI, CV controls, etc. Really looking forward to seeing this thing develop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1d9TMY2F74
  3. Yeah, no need for a full-fledged "robot" Just some solenoids https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKzLCb6uvQE
  4. this is what i've bought. highly recommend! https://www.thomann.de/gb/roland_studio_capture.htm I've been eyeing that unit but the price tag has me shy..... Otherwise it's everything I want/looking for Anyone use a Tascam US16x08? Seems there were some driver issues initially but it could be a significant bang for the buck.
  5. Currently GASsing for some 16 channel multi-track recording ability. I've grown tired of recording individual pieces of hardware one at a time -- I want to route them all into my DAW and have individual FX routings/chains etc. for additional awesome live jam possibilities Time to save some more $$$.....
  6. Aoyue is a highly recommended brand of soldering iron that is relatively easy on the wallet. I got the 469 variable wattage station for like $30 on Amazon
  7. The nice thing about the LXR is that it's 6 independent FM voices (HH and OHH are the same voice w/ different release timings). It's quite versatile, they don't necessarily have to sound like drums I'm very excited for the Bastl Sixty Knobs add-on to come out hopefully sometime soon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lq8_S-Ut7Wc
  8. Just moved house and got a larger desk Now I need to get some decorations up and get settled in
  9. If I paid myself that kind of money I'd just buy the modules!
  10. I've always heard to estimate about $1500/row of 84hp for Eurorack stuff. I think I'm doing pretty well cost-wise with my current route.
  11. It's about $2k worth of parts and hours of my time. The missing one isn't working properly yet but the gap doesn't bother me, it's taken me 6 months to get this far. how much did you paid for all of this? btw... you miss one
  12. It just keeps growing.... I have an RYO 3X VCA build that is giving me trouble. Once it's finished I'll have built 6U of 104hp and I'll be taking a break from expansion since we just bought a house and my student loan payments have shot up nearly 5x
  13. This guy came in the mail today and was assembled about an hour later Quite a bit of noisy fun so far.
  14. Check your temps! How hot are you running it to have melted the PCB? I had to remove a resistor array that I installed backwards, low air speed + 350F and I pulled it out with a pair of tweezers and reinstalled it the right way all at once. I've done similar with a DIP16 socket I had to remove too. Heat the back side of the PCB so it doesn't melt the plastic socket and pull it out once the solder is melted.
  15. Hot air station is magical for large desoldering jobs if you have access to one
  16. Just sold my Tetra after 7 years or so. It's a powerful synth. Your recent tunes using it are sounding nice.
  17. The knobs are definitely bigger/chunkier since I'm using standard shaft pots and knobs with set screws. The nice soft rubber Rogan knobs MI uses are hella expensive and D-shaft only AFAIK.
  18. Just normal eurorack 3U size. The case is 104hp and will hold 12U when full.
  19. How hard was it to find the parts for the MI stuff? Did you have to custom order the panels and PCBs and source the BOM for the other stuff, or did you find kits for these? There's an awesome Google spreadsheet (search for "MI DIY FB PCB" put I'll edit later with actual link -- on my mobile right now) with links for Mouser/Digikey carts that have been built and BOMs for all the MI modules. Parts are relatively easy to find, all my ICs and passives come from the aforementioned Mouser carts. Alpha 10k pots (most common used) + knobs are coming from Tayda because they're a better price. Some people buy bulk from alibaba or places like that too. My panels are from Magpie Modular or Oscillosaurus -- they just make panels. PCB/Panel pairings can be bought from Modular Addict, Magpie, etc. Synthcube sells some of the MI stuff as kits.
  20. Got hit by the DIY bug really hard over the past 6 months or so. I had built a couple MI Shruthis and a Bliptronome in the past 4-5 years. Once I saw the Sonic Potions LXR drum synth had a Trigger i/o expansion I knew I had to build one and jump into eurorack. Little did I know what I'd done to myself.... Now I've got a hot air station and do a lot of SMD work. I've learned how to program a few different microcontrollers and code a bit. And I've spent a few hours frustrated as hell
  21. My studio has grown a bit, all DIY
  22. My GAS has been bad lately after deciding to get more into hardware and dive in to eurorack lol. I've saved a bit by DIYing everything but I've still spent quite a bit in about 6 months by building a Sonic Potions LXR drum synth, MI modules -- Yarns, Clouds, Braids, Ripples, Peaks, Links, Shades, and Kinks, 2x Ornament + Crime modules, and a GI Synthesis Grains oscillator. Gotta slow down with the approaching holidays...... It's been a lot of fun working w/o the computer though. I just hit record in Live and turn off the screen while I goof around.
  23. Wish I could watch that youtube accompanying the gif above, but it's blocked at work... As soon as that scene happened I called it out to my wife. Complete bullshit edit done poorly lol
