  1. just fired up the Eprom 64bytes remixes, the production & edits are ridiculously high quality, some of the most surgical i've heard in this genre, the music itself feels a little cold to me but the guy has serious potential. looking forward to hearing more in the future. Definitely feeling Eskmo more, especially Hyper color. When is that split on warp coming out? edit; im really enjoying 'loops haunt' as well, thanks for the recommendation. It's refreshing to see so many new producers focusing so much on sound design in their electronic music. I know im not the first to say this but i really genuinely feel electronic music is turning a corner for the better right now!
  2. did you end up going to that party?
  3. i should check him out, anything specific?
  4. there is a massive dubstep thing going on in oakland, ca tonight http://sanfrancisco.going.com/event-669266;REACH_FOR_THE_LAZERS_-_ALL_NIGHT_UNDERGROUND?src=v_wi_sfo_89225_aa59415842#track-rsvp-view its being held in a really ridiculous old house that used to be a bordello
  5. yes that was beautiful, has anybody managed to clip that song as well as the other handful of long versions they did ? I recall one from Draft as well that was over 12 minutes.
  6. Castlevania IV and Contra 3, 2 of the most beautiful 16-bit console games ever created http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWMN91gMD_4&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yG1_SaAID2Y edit: hah! i just realized how identical looking those covers are to each other, never noticed it before
  7. obviously dubstep artists are inspired by Dan Forden of Mortal Kombat 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSZPt5CssT4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mK_F7Xyb7Co&feature=related and my personal favorites the really early Mortal Kombat music entirely done with FM synthesis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jj4TU3jm3ME&feature=related even later when Mortal Kombat 4 was just entirely hard drive/cdaudio based music it still was pretty damn good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMmXIrIFuro&feature=related
  8. isn't that a heralds of change song? anyways good track
  9. nice one, ill have to check out the mix
  10. this ep is good it uses a lot of field recordings
  11. yeah i think i shall, i just saw on his blog that he was really digging SND's altavism release. ithat would be a very interesting influence if it showed through on his new stuff
  12. what ever happened to Bass Clef?
  13. don't go spreading rumors now. Last time i heard from autopilot i was going to get to hear some new tracks, so lets say hypothetically he did say that to you, shouldn't you leave it to him to express that to me personally instead of taking/putting words in his mouth? Atop you have good music tastes and know a lot about this genre , but i think it's extremely out of character for you to try to insinuate some sort of in fight like this, or speak for another member about his music coming out on a record labels it seems like unnecessary meddling, just take it easy. If he has a problem with the compilation title let him tell me himself. Edit: but out of respect for you starting this thread, i will take my compilation track seeking efforts elsewhere, you've given me some great things to start with though.
  14. but you do identify correctly that i dont listen to enough of it to weed through the good shit, which is why i seek the recommendations of you and others in this forum. practically every single dubstep artist i am into comes from you, soapscum/nat and soothsayer. SO i could understand some irritation in me wanting to name my compilation this for laughs
  15. it's kind of hard for me to see scorn's dubs as generic especially considering the groundwork he laid for dubstep as a genre (as you point out in the first post in this thread), but i wouldn't expect anyone to like it if they already hate dubstep. heh that's expecting a lot out of people who outright refuse to listen to an entire genre. but that aside i don't see why it's so wrong to poke fun at the genre, even if i listen to it and enjoy it. i generally think most music in any dance music genre is derivative and poorly made and that doesn't exclude dubstep. and i'm even more inclined to use my title now to see if it will really turn off dubstep people. . for as many 'dubstep heads' who would be insulted or turned off by this title, im willing to bet there is an equal amount of pompous music fans who would be intrigued by it
  16. that's kind of the point.... anybody who listens to dubstep who takes themselves too seriously should not listen to or get near this compilation. this will be a compilation serving as a 'fuck you' to the countless dj's who think its fun to rewind a track 30 seconds in in 1994 i would have bought a 'drum and bass that isn't shit' compilation in a heart beat Awepittance, you're cool and everything, and obviously very knowledgable about music. But you can sound incredibly snooty and pompous sometimes. i should have put a wink somewhere in there, i wasn't fully serious, except for the very last part, i probably would have bought the drum and bass comp.

  18. when you say this do you mean the entire genre of dubstep?
  19. Indeed... I wasn't just speaking out of my ass... i hope i didn't imply that you were ! i was mostly saying that because i thought i had heard plenty of Klayton before that did not sound like that dubby techo, i must have just been hearing the wrong stuff. and damn i especially like FBOM and Bro Safari of what you posted, very good shit@
  20. by the way Atop i don't know if i ever told you but i recently checked out a few older Kit Klayton albums and was pretty taken by how similar it sounded to 2562 and a lot of new techo/garage/dubstep stuff . guy was very ahead of his time!
  21. yes same, unsigned in a loosest sense possible meaning bands not really known in the dubstep scene, the more original and flavorful the better.
  22. i think i might put a out a 'dubstep that isn't shite' compilation on my label. looking for unsigned stuff at the moment
  23. from ny times article , i'm so glad i haven't witnessed this in a real life dubstep set yet, i would scream at the dj
  24. strangelife records and it's much different from ghost box. I think Ghost Box and Strangelife have a similar philosophy (trying to create a soundtrack to an 'imagined past') but the two labels draw on different inspiration. Ghost Box is mainly inspired by library music, Radiophonic-Workshop style experiments, music from educational programming of the 60s and 70s, and the weird fiction of turn of the century writers like Algernon Blackwood and Arthur Machen. On Strangelife Records, Legowelt takes his inspiration mainly from the sort of low-budget movies that were coming out of Europe in the 70s and 80s, featuring heavily synthesised scores. Both labels are excellent, in my opinion, and well worth checking out. Back to Ghost Box, I'm not sure what my favourite release is...I would like to see another Eric Zann album though, and new work by Mount Vernon Arts Lab would be nice (although I'm not sure this will happen). Ouroborindra references 'The Stone Tape' in the sleeve notes, and 'The Seance At Hobs Lane' is a reference to 'Quatermass And The Pit'. Any albums that reference two of my favorite Nigel Kneale-penned television programs get my approval. thanks for the information, i've been meaning to check out both labels actually for a while based on recommendations from friends, now is probably a good time to do it
