  1. You'll notice as it goes on and the episodes start to contain more scenes that aren't from Elliot's POV (scenes happening in which Elliot isn't present and there's no narration) that there's a distinct tonal shift. It'd be hard to explain why this is purposeful and actually well done without getting into spoilers, although it's pretty obvious from the jump though that he's not the most mentally sound individual. Tonight's episode was A+ and that music choice in the arcade was perfect (and imo a sign of the show's creators acknowledging & respecting the audience's intelligence). I actually forgot all about Chekov's popcorn until seeing people mention it online later.
  2. The Knick is really something. Soderbergh + Martinez score + ridiculously gory 1900 medical practices = hell yea. I saw about half of AHS season 3 (the witch coven) because my old roommate was all about that show, and it was fucking terrible.
  3. holy shit npoess those are some top shelf dank as fuck memes
  4. Mr. Robot might be the first visual/cinematic piece of entertainment I've ever seen that actually has a desire to portray computer technology accurately. There's no absurdly extravagant GUIs to add visual flare to what, in reality, is just a dude typing various lines into Linux and running password crackers.
  5. Bojack Horseman really increases in quality about halfway through the first season and keeps getting better from that point. It gets surprisingly dramatic and dark in a good way. And holy shit tonight's episode of Rick & Morty was amazing. The final bit before the credits had me laughing for about 20 minutes after it ended.
  6. Yeah, Nothing is a very entertaining flick. Haven't seen Cypher or Splice but I intend to one of these days.
  7. I read something similar, but the author posited that the rise of anthology series that tell stories in single seasons (True Detective, Fargo, American Horror Story) is the result of that, since it requires far less of a time/emotional investment from the viewer. I'll believe it's coming to an end when everything starts to get shit. Until then I'm not gonna ruin a good thing by speculating "the end is nigh".
  8. If you like Big Jay Oakerson you should definitely check out the video podcast he does with Luis & Dave (both mentioned in that video), "Legion Of Skanks". It consistently has me laughing until my abs hurt. http://youtube.com/legionofskanks
  9. Yeah they're still neat gory sci fi horror films, I guess, but it's pretty obvious the creator of the first film had no intention of filling in a lot of the blanks that the sequels did.
  10. Cube is a classic. I would avoid all the sequels/prequels, though. In an attempt to fill in the backstory they totally kill the ominous mystery of the first film, which was better as an ambiguous, character based sci fi horror piece. Once the (not the original) writers start trying to explain things outside the cube it all falls apart.
  11. Binged the first 4 eps of Mr. Robot last night. Great stuff. I'm hooked. I see why everyone's been raving about this show. I'm loving this trend of networks we'd otherwise totally write off busting out shows that put Hollywood to shame. (AMC - Breaking Bad, FX - Fargo, USA - Mr. Robot, Cinemax - The Knick) Such a debt of gratitude is owed to HBO & The Sopranos for changing the TV landscape. If you'd told me in 2000 that in 15 years movies would mostly cynical garbage and TV would be telling gripping novelistic stories I would not have believed you. Yes, it's amazing. Definitely watch both, but which you go with first depends on what mood you're in. Saul can be pretty lighthearted & entertaining with some good drama, while TDs2 is relentlessly oppressive and almost entirely devoid of levity.
  12. Just watched the first episode of Mr. Robot. Now downloading the rest. Promising...
  13. Pretty much every lauded piece of storytelling since the invention of the epic poem contains some degree of allegory & symbolism.
  14. So you hate the overwhelming majority of great stories from the past few millenia?
  15. Yeah a top shelf bourbon shits all over Euro & Canadian whiskeys, easily.
  16. It's not exactly like a Nintendo exclusive Japanese developed shooter was ever destined for greatness.

  18. Well if you're already above level 50 and have not tried an anarchy build it might be difficult to get the hang of. What I would do is, when around 0 anarchy use a Jakobs shotgun with a very small clip to take out enemies until you get to 50-100 stacks. If you can get a shock Hyperion shotgun that'd be a useful alternate as you're getting your damage modifiers while farming anarchy, but it might still be faster to use Jakobs since you get a stack every time you reload. Also Jakobs shotguns have super fast reloading which is very useful for farming anarchy. Unfortunately there's no elemental Jakobs weapons. Once you get above 100 anarchy you become a chaotic murder machine. I use a build pretty close to this one: http://bl2skills.com/mechromancer.html#550050101351050055000500410155121010 One great thing about this game is that it has an awesome community. It's been out for a few years now so there's plenty of experts all over who'll help you out. I was suffering as Axton in UVHM until a player told me that his grenade-damage-buff skills work for Torgue weapons as well. Re-spec'd and got some new gear and now I'm crushing it.
  19. Shouldn't the right panel say "90s Kids Today" ?
  20. Yeah, you can only get seraph crystals in UVHM now, which I guess makes sense since you could "break" the game by popping into TVHM, farming bosses 10 levels below you for crystals, then pop back into UVHM and buying seraph gear at your current level. PS: Speaking of seraph weapons, you should totally do a zapper/anarchy build with your mechro and get a new "Florentine" seraph SMG every 5 or so levels. Weapon does both shock & slag damage and when you've got high anarchy & shock damage buffs it just clears rooms like nothing.

  22. I remember those Lucas Arts point & click adventure games. There are a couple of recent games by indie developers that follow the exact same style. Primordia is one, and there's a cyberpunk-themed one for which I forget the title. Still on Borderlands 2, as the Mechromancer. Just reached lvl 46 and pushing on to 50, at which point I can "unlock" a weapons cache I created in the Sanctuary loot bank, after using my lvl 55 Siren to scoop up some Purples and Legendaries by farming one of the Raid bosses. Clappy's secret stash makes it possible to transfer loot between characters. Not gonna bother with UVHM though - that universal enemy health regen is bullshit. UVHM isn't as bad as you might think, it just causes you to really use the elemental weapon system & play more cautiously/conservatively. Maps that you could clear in 15 minutes on normal and 30 on TVHM will take 60-90 minutes in UVHM. Also if you don't already, you should follow the Borderlands Twitter account. They're always posting codes for the Sanctuary loot chest on there, which always contains purples at your current level. I save all my gold keys for characters above lv50 and save all the gear for other characters. If you keep hording all the purples & oranges (and seraph/pearlescent if you have those expansions) you get above level 50 and swap them between other characters, then UVHM gets easier each time you go through it. Also the 'Badass Rank' makes things easier each time as well. If you want help farming Pyro Pete for legendaries & seraph crystals PM me and we can play sometime.
