is 'the crunch' affecting you

i'm an interior designer and i've got nothing to do for the first time ever since working here (almost 8 years).

no new work coming in since new year and a delayed start date for a big project means on friday we laid off some builders and fitters. the phone's dead, emails other than spam are few and noone's coming into the office.

since i rely on commission to bulk up my salary, i'm starting to feel it and struggling to recover from my christmas and new years extravegances. i'm even looking at cheaper products when food shopping and stuff i need for my flat'll just have to wait til i'm in a better position.

all that scaremongering is becoming reality.

Not me. But I'm a lousy student and I'm not earning. Will probably fail miserably in gaining employment after uni because of it though.

We had to let some people go I basically had to take over a way harder job for the same pay, which blows. I dislike my job now and am kind of shopping around for a new one, which I realize will be hard.

it appears one thing that people certainly do not give up on in a recession is marijewana, so im actually doing pretty well.

ive noticed the club scene has diminished though, and alot more places are offering very cheap alcohol to draw people in.

ive found myself plastered all over facebook looking distinctly trampish with 2 cans of strongbow in my hands because you get buy 1 get 1 free drinks schemes in clubs now.

yeah not really anything coming in right now for me or anybody else in the same business as I am. Good news is that I have another job I can fall back on that pays twice as much. Bad news is that the only way I can make money doing it is by working about 65 hours a week.

Hmm... Sorry to hear that Keltoi, just advertise more. I guess real-estate agents (or any person that needs interior design) were affected the most lately... I work as a waiter for the moment and I haven't been affected (fired).

It's January, relax. People need to get over that fucking overhyped topic. I haven't seen big inflation yet, so...

People fortunately still like food, and top service, during recession.

not affected right now because i am right in the middle of a 2-year post-doc job at a govt lab. however, i am going to have to start to look for jobs this summer so we'll see what it is like then.

plus after i get a job i am going to want to buy a house in the near future too so i dunno how thats all going to work out. fortunately my credit is good so that is probably going to help out a little.
