not being authoritative, i'm just throwing these out there and seeing what happens. gotta love the internet's posterity.

- major investment in weather infrastructure across the globe.

- increased nuclear power, increased offshore wind turbines. ridiculously soaring petrol prices, everyone drives hybrids if not fully electric.

- digital television will be dying out like analogue is now. some kind of symbiosis between net and digital. on-demand content.

- comedy in america will be like peep show etc. it'll be subtle and inventive, and concentrate on how shit and tragic american life is.

- the issue that riles up everyone in america will be class, not race.

- muslims will be a greater part of western society and we'll all feel quite embarrassed about the current period. there'll be channel 4 comedy dealing with the socio-political issues surrounding muslim integration/assimilation.

- al-quaida/taliban will be just a tiny dying fringe movement. non-violent but ultra-conservative islam will replace it.

- labour will have reinvented themselves and will be picking up the pieces/ playing on how much the tories have wanked everything up.

- there'll be some kind of coalition or political grouping between lib dems and more left-leaning labour MPs.

- iran will either have had a revolution (coup d'etat) or more likely, made major democratic 'liberal' concessions. the supreme leader either won't exist, or more likely will wield little power.

- palestine will be an officially recognised and functioning state, but still be incredibly unstable and poor. no territories will have been given back. borders will only be very slightly relaxed.

- russia and china will be diplomatically tag-teaming the west/un. china will be exerting huge power, russia will be swinging her cock around.

*clears throat more thoroughly*

in the future, mankind will witness robocop carrying a ghost up a mountain, upon which he will proceed to do a backflip on a spike. there's all kinds of lasers being fired in the background while true dinosaurs roam the earth. they're being attacked by tie-fighters btw. the sky is red. also, tate does a exhibition of kaini's fractal art.

in the future, everything will run a variant of a descendent of linux

embedded linux in your kettle and your bike... advances in cheap, small wireless tech fabrication will lead to an ubiquitous wireless cloud that they are all part of

the health consequences of the ubiquitous wireless cloud will only be seen fifty years later

for the most part this is quite optimistic. as in, i don't know if we as humans can pull off this sort of thing. who knows though, perhaps we will evolve into creatures as opposed to parasites and we will learn to live with each other without killing each other but i don't know...
