Just for comparison, english muffin:

Makes more sense to call it a crumpet, since it's the same thing and we don't have another food by the same name...

 

no no - we have those too - they're completely different to crumpets. we call those english muffins also...

 

So what's the difference then?

 

english muffins are like bready and more savoury and crumpets are spongy elasticy things more like a fat pancake than bread.

English muffins (not the cake, sweet type), the ones in the pic, are very much similar to bread.

 

Crumpets are very much not like bread. More like, erm, I dunno, Pancake? But savoury.

the crumpet is more eggy and less bread-like than it's close cousin, the muffin.

This is going to be a long search, I can tell now...

 

Do they have malt loaf? Ah, joy.

 

Not sure what that is, but we have plenty of malt liquor.
