I'd say get the man who sold the world next, but you've got a wealth of bowietastic listening enjoyment ahead of you; you could just go to allmusic.com and get any of the five-star albums.

well you can't actually get the records at allmusic, but they've got reviews of the album is what I mean goshdarnit.

I would say get 'Heroes' and 'Low' for the great electronic tracks and some great rock tunes as well...

but for David Bowie being, imo, bad ass, definitely get 'Hunky Dory', 'Space Oddity' and 'The Man Who Sold The World'....

Those five records should treat you nicely....

'Hunky Dory' is the best Bowie record imo...

such classic/classy music, so perfect sounding in a archetypal-melodic sense...

and Eno busted it wide open for Bowie in a production sense....

I think you would enjoy 'Low' and 'Heroes' as well Yek....

Eno does a lot of work those two....

Beautiful work....

Eno worked on 'Lodger' as well, but I am not too in love with this record...

Don't hate it though....

Over 'Low', not in my mind...

'Lodger' is dancy as fuck, which can sound cheesy...imo

I think 'Low' has a serious I AM DAVID FUCKING BOWIE vibe....

and the ambient pieces are some of the coolest electronic music ever....

ziggy stardust.

It's early in the morning. The sun won't be up for another couple of hours. You're fast asleep in bed, lost in a dream, when the phone rings. Rather than waking up, you roll over and cover your head with a pillow. Hours pass. The sun rises. The phone is ringing.

When you wake up, your alarm clock is blaring and the phone is ringing. By the time you will yourself to turn the alarm off, the phone has stopped ringing. You realize that it's been ringing all morning. You slide out of bed and press the blinking red button on your phone as you stumble into the bathroom. The phone beeps, followed by the friendly, electronic voice.

Hello. You have six hundred and sixty-six new messages.

Message one. The phone beeps again, and you're not prepared for what comes next.

Screaming. It's your friend, Henry. "HEY MAN!"

You spin around, thinking that he's standing right behind you. There's pure terror in his screams, accompanied by other disturbing noises. You stand there, horrified, before replying

"Oh leave me alone, you know."

"HEY MAN!"

"Oh Henry, get off the phone, I gotta..."

"HAY MAN!"

"I gotta straighten my face, this mellow-thighed chick just put my spine out of place."

The phone beeps again. You're shaking.

Message two.

IMO, "Station To Station" and "Young Americans" are his "best" albums.

I wouldn't jump straight into them, though.

If I were you, I would probably get "Hunky Dory" next. If you really like the Ziggy Stardust "sound", "Aladdin Sane" is a good bet to get next, too. If you're feeling adventurous, follow "Hunky Dory" with "Station to Station".

"Low", "Heroes" and "Lodger" are all fantastic.

Basically, anything he did between 1966 and 1982 is fantastic. Before "Let's Dance" he really didn't put out a "bad" album.

"Scary Monsters" is a highly under-rated album of his. It's definitely one of his best. I love it.

If you are just starting out, there is nothing wrong with getting a comp... but if you do, get THIS ONE.

I also highly recommend Iggy Pop's albums "The Idiot" and "Lust For Life" after you get a real taste for Bowie's stuff. Bowie wrote almost all the music for both albums (but not the lyrics) and produced them during his "Berlin Period"... so they are basically 2 more David Bowie albums.

I just listened to the "Diamond Dogs" album this morning. Great album. The guy is a fucking genius.

I think Low is the best, followed closely by Hunky Dory and Heathen. Outside and Station to Station are fantastic as well.

Most of his cataloge is enjoyable, just steer clear of the eighties output, Tin Machine, Black Tie White Noise and Days.
