Good set-up episode.

But that really should've been show 199, and have 200 be the epic battle and revelation.

Wow, I thought those really long bleeps during Kyle's speech at the end were just poking fun at the situation, weird. Loved the "Killing Joke" reference with Scott Tenorman.

My girlffriend and I thought the same thing as we watched, that it was some meta-joke

imagine if every newspaper in the world banded together to show an image of muhammad on the front page on a specified day. would the world end?

Sucks for the guys how they had even his name beeped out now! where as in season 5 Mohammad was just a character within the show! Why cant you depict his image anyway? don't they know what he really looks like :O

Hmm, at first i thought the guys who make south park were very ballsy for doing this but after a couple days has gone by since i've realized that they are probably some of the biggest pussies pretending to be controversial working today

let me explain

last time South Park tried to make a commentary about showing Muhammad they showed jesus christ spewing diarrhea on a crowd of people. This created pretty much a full on 'south park has gone too far' smear campaign from the right-wing, mostly fox news. This time around they realized that they needed friends among conservatives/right wingers so they made Buddha do coke and jesus generally a normal person (besides the online porn thing which im sure even some christians found funny).

My theory is that Matt & Trey were deeply scarred by 9/11, so much so that they themselves are very fearful of muslims. They had a show on called 'that's my bush' right before 9/11 and it was canceled soon afterward. The show was a full on parody of George W Bush and christian conservatism. I think 9/11 sucked them in greatly to the narrative of the 'war on terror', they seem to feel that terrorism is a significant issue in the same way the mainstream edia tries to portray it. We all saw the Imagination Land episode where mockingly al queda terrorists try to blow it up. Pretty clever, but it still proves that 8 years after 9/11 terrorism and fears of it are still very much on the forefront of the minds of the creators.

So in short i think that they are using the Comedy Central network as a scapegoat for their own personal fears. Comedy Central was retarded for not showing Muhammad, but Matt and Trey are buying into the fear mongering of terrorists themselves way too much. Which is in essence also quite retarded. Matt & Trey, they pretend and act like they are standing tall, that muslims don't scare them

but in actuality pretty damn scared by them

Guess how i heard of the episode, not from watmm but from 2 conservative friends and a Fox News report speaking VERY favorably of Matt and Trey. Whether intentionally or not Matt & Trey have created a bond between their 'stand' and christian neoconservatism everywhere.

edit: If they had shown jesus drinking urine and ingesting feces, their balls would be truly large. This is just kind of sad and revealing to me.

lol you're looking too deep into it. what makes you think you can get inside their heads and motives?.

so what? if you had paid attention all these years you would've known by now that they don't really care about taking sides very much.

what's your definition of 'taking sides' ? matt and trey seem to have pretty strong political convictions, every episode now ends with some preachy bullshit. help me understand how you could possibly act like they don't. I'm not saying they intentionally tried to make friends with hoards of ignorant idiots in this episode, but they have.

i mean they don't take the obvious sides, in every debate there's two prominent sides, they always ridicule and agree with both sides while taking a fresh stance.

I don't have anything interesting too say, just that you're looking into it a too deep and coming off as a nut.

it was sort of a recap show, and the main point was obviously that it is ridiculous to ask that something can't be ridiculed. you seem to extract some other agenda from this only from the fact that they didn't put Jesus doing something outrageous this time.

really? a lot of the time the stance seems very typical of people who have recently become traditional left & right paradigm based centrist, to me their stance is usually pretty predictable. when you say they 'ridicule' 'both sides' that's kind of my point, is that they emphasize two false sides and act as if the 'centrist' point is the rationale one.

i don't think they had an overt agenda at all, you're right that they wanted to make a commentary about how ridiculous it is that something can can't be ridiculed but there was inadvertently a reveal that 8 years after 9/11 are still very much wrapped up in being worried about muslim terrorist attacks, which i think at least for speaks volumes about their ability to 'rise above' such generic political paradigms
