I went there once , it was pretty cool. The food is horrible , but whatever , the sights are amazing (and they have a McDonalds)

I lived there for the first 13-14 years of my life (in Mumbai/Bombay). I moved to Canada about 8 years ago and I havent been back. So it should be pretty amazing.

Apparently now they have McDonalds, Subway, Dominos, KFC etc

Jealous! Are you going to travel around or just stay in Mumbay? I'm thinking about going there within the next year and wouldn't mind some itinerary suggestions.

I want to go back to india stupid bad, I miss washing my arse with my hands and being judged for asking where to buy beer and being told I look like david beckham and getting ripped off for everything

You know that your first week or so you are going to get ripped off rotten. The trouble is you can't barter with conviction because you have to learn what everything costs. I bought a few mangoes in Delhi off a street market for about 20 times their asking price, bet that bloke had a fucking massive party that weekend! That's whats cool about the countryside and small villages, you don't get ripped off, sure a few rupees more but that's fine by me.

exactly. I dont mind paying a bit extra because depending on what you are buying, its still pretty cheap by north american standards. I have a lot of family in Mumbai with whom I will be staying and traveling with so hopefully they are good at negotiating and stuff like that.

I quite like the idea of everyone being poor so they have to get creative with cheap vegetarian dishes. And all this fast food business, cone on - what about the heritage of Indian cuisine? Fuck the big coorporations, they don't know how to make proper food that won't also give you fucking genetic diseases later on in life.

the food is not horrible. i spent 3.5 months in pune 2 years back, had a hell of a time, loved every minute of it. had my lunches delivered in a tiffin every day, monthly lunch bill was $18 usd. home-cooked food. awesome.

haggling with taxi drivers, them telling me a price 10 times what it should be, me telling them ok take me to the police station then, them driving off. mumbai local trains, getting lost on the bus back from mumbai to pune. had a blast.

living quarters were a little shoddy but what do you expect, live it up with what youve got.
