Funktion 1 founder talks soundystems

I never knew that almost all loudspeakers are colored by some EQ while Funktion 1 and only a couple of others (according to him) are made flat. My own experience with my rig really supports this idea.

most speakers are designed to be flat, albeit only so in an anechoic chamber

everyone brags about how flat their speaker frequency response is, or how ruler flat their fancy microphone is --- then completely ignore the fact that when they put that gear into a room, the room dictates everything and those responses are tossed out the window like a tape like the girl in 'set it off' did.

massive rigs like that in an outdoor enclosure do not necessarily suffer from this (for obvious reasons) --- but indoor clubs, who cares how flat your speaker's response is when you have modal and time decay issues that will mask everything. it's useless bragging unless the room is designed to accommodate said speakers - then you're on to something and the drivers can really shine.

"100 Watts of pure sound is actually enough to kill you"

1w/1m sensitivities agree.

aww, with 6minutes to go he goes on about the "weakest link in the chain" --- and i thought he was finally going to say the room but unfort he completely ignored it and went on further about source quality.

lol finally @ -4min left, he saves the day!

edit: he really didnt touch on it enough imho .

85% of venues I've been to & played in have had really shitty soundsystems, speaker placement, not enough bass, too much bass, too much highs, or just flat out broken speakers.

99% of American DJs spin with CDs burned from/Serato playlists filled with 320kbps mp3s.

100% of clubgoers are too fucked up to care. As long as they can hear a kick drum in their k-holes they're good.

This reminds me of an interesting source I read when I was getting ready to DJ a wedding. I knew that people would request the shit that I had gotten from the bad old days of Napster/KaZaa/Limewire and I knew there were going to be shit bitrates, BLOOPS, EEPS and other artifactual shit that comes from a 64 kbps .mp3. I guess a "study" of sorts was done that established the relationship between amplitude and bitrate in indoor "club" situations and people's perception of the sound quality.

Basically, the louder you blast your shit, the lower bitrates you can get away with and the crowd not perceive a degradation. They got down to the 30's in bitrates lol. It's kind of a pointless study because it's like finding out that a person's ability to visually discern two points decreases as they look more closely into the sun.

clearly you didn't attend a university where you had your hypothesis tested via the scientific method and peer reviewed by those in a position to do so

even if you don't give a damn about sound quality, you gotta admit this post is utter fuking worthless from any perspective of trying to prove a point

i sarcastically doubt alcohol had no effect on anyone giving a shit about quality of some old jam on a shitty pa system ;;;; nor the fact that weddings more orless consist of chums paying the bulk of their attentions on the tail that's bouncing around with glassy eyes from the one three many hennessies over there -----vs the quality of a fucking tune out the laptop of some turd toboggan with less lights than a 4way traffic stop. anyone trying to call bullshit on your bitrates clearly loses all credibility, as anyone worth their shit would have conscience attention maxed out determining the optimal strike path on that ass over there on the dancefloor

xxx, you use serato?

i guess as long as someone is using serato and has an internet connection you could get everyone's request........ hmmm, unless if you can't refresh the serato playlist without turning it off, i haven't checked that yet honestly. ???
