I have found something that has been missing. I knew it was there but I didn't pay enough attention to see that it was almost exactly everything I wanted out of music

stuff like this

Had the great privledge of seeing DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist do their "Hard Sell" set on tour a few years ago at First Ave in Minneapolis, Kid Koala also opened... it was a mindblowing show. Kid Koala's quite underrated, he makes that shit look easy. The DVD of the tour is quite awesome and I recommend looking into it if you're interested in this kinda stuff.

Here's how the show started, they played this vid

i like how kid koala doesn't take himself too seriously. and the fact that all his tracks are fun instead of being like, this is how technical i can be. nothing wrong with that but it's refreshing to hear koala tracks sometimes.

i should probably look into this hard sell business.

Brainfreeze > Product Placement >>> Hard Sell

I'm sure the live show/tour was dope as always but the hard sell mixes were incredibly disappointing. At first I thought they were taking the piss, only to find out later they weren't.

Brainfreeze in contrast was absolutely mindblowing when it first came out; plenty of djs had been making funk/breaks mixes at the time but the creativity and technical ability on these mixes took it to a whole other level. It's still one of those greater-than-the-sum-of-its-parts mixes because for as good as the source material is what they do with it is even better.

But yeah kid koala is awesome, one if the best $10 live shows I've been to. I remember amongst the 20 or so cue cards he used to communicate with the audience that one of them said "new deltron 3030 coming soon" to which the crowd went apeshit. That was like 5 years ago now lol

Brainfreeze > Hard Sell

He is probably right. I like em both a lot. (Which one is the one that starts with the phone message from some crazy american lad?)

Never heard Product Placement. Might have to give it a whirl.
