recently installed winxp so i could go back and load some of my old projects that won't load on win7. dug up this track which i spent ages (way too long) mixing, a little over 10yrs ago. did a quick 'remix' including some edits, effects, and a lot of other little changes.

its maybe almost embarrassing in some places/ways, the drum timing could be tightened here and there, the distorted bass is kinda wack, etc, but i think some of it is cool so i might try taking some clips out of it and remixing on the octatrack, some day.

I dug this track. I liked the big beats and the various distortions switching throughout. Nice crunchy and buzzy sound palette. Some good industrial vibes.

Thanks for sharing it!

Pretty much agree with what everyone else has said. I would maybe even replace the kick, because it sounds a bit too Yamaha-keyboard-ish. Maybe low pass the distorted bass a bit, to make it... well, more bassy and not so mid-range :)

yeh i think i pretty much agree with it all too

id prob try to layer an analog kick in with that one before just completely scrapping it tho, and maybe layer another synth in with the bass synth thats there (lowpassing the current one is a good idea too). it'll be a while tho before i get around to it

(thx guys)

did you make this in the early 90s? it has that kinda sound. I love where it goes and how it ends

my only suggestion is try doing a mix where you isolate the snare to a separate track and take it in and out of the mix

and effect it here and there. The big room snare being constant in a track is always too dominant for me

but when you have vocals it can work well but without them I feel like it takes over. That's what I like about the second half of the track

it goes someplace different

This makes me want to remix my old 4 track tapes

nice work

early 2000s, i might've started it in 2001, but it was definitely laid out pretty much like this by 2002. then i spent a year mixing this and a few other tracks (trying to learn eqs/comps etc).

im thinking about maybe tweaking this mix a bit, keeping it close to as it is, but trying to fix the above mentioned issues, and then doing at least one of some kind of remix/new version. i also have a crazy remix of it i made back then, so i might polish that one off too, maybe try to do a little ep like kinda thing out of 'em.

but yeh ive been on a big kick about remixing/beefing up old stuff of mine, since i made a ton of tracks back then but they were all done on the pc, no hardware (like this one), and now i have some cool 'gear' to use which i think could improve lots of the sounds. also i never really finished most of it, so im trying to finally do that. its fun too, reimagining old stuff.

yeah

this is totally what I have to do

most of my old stuff is on 4 track cassette tapes and inside my MPC 2000

I need to go back and re imagine a lot of it too

Just an opinion:

If you do that, i would advice you to take stuff from the second part of the track. The bits on slower timing after 03:47 are much stronger. Slower music tends sucks the listener much deeper into a world of sound imho. Also listen to some david lynch tracks before starting this session. :spiteful:

here's a bit of a remix i recently did of an old (8+yrs?) track that i found on my hard drive a couple weeks ago and mostly had forgotten about. def among the weirdest tracks i ever made. think i was going for a bit of a warped waltz type sound (p sure it used 4/4 timing tho). not really sure what i was thinking actually. prob won't do anymore work to this, might put it on a comp of my old stuff pretty much as it is.

found this one at the same time, did an even less involved remix of this one. prob will include it on the same comp. i'd like to improve the mix a bit (feel like the snares are way too quiet) but its hard when the original mix project is long gone, all i have are a few stems to mess with.

nah i just started this thread to occasionally put some older stuff of mine in, maybe after making a few changes or additions, whatever. also i've noticed that last one (inter) is super quiet but i dont feel like going through the bother of re-limiting, and reupping it.

think i started this thread around the same time i upped a ton of old fruity loops jams to my soundcloud and maxed out my time limit there. so i may end up take most or all of those down, but here's the playlist i made for them if anyone is interested. i'd like to redo some of these.

just put up this sorta remix of one of the first things i ever made, really i just overdubbed lots of analog synths and stuff over it. feel like the levels are a bit off still, especially the drums towards the end, but i'll prob tighten that up eventually

another one, this one's way over-limited/compressed, the synths are pretty simple, but i kind of like it

might try to polish it up somehow, maybe overdub the drum sounds back over it to bring some dynamics back in, and maybe do something with the synths too

this one i probably shouldnt have even uploaded. i feel like theres an ok track buried somewhere in there but most of the sounds need processed or redone or something to make it pop. im probably going to try to do that pretty soon, imagine it will sound a lot different when its done

ok heres one that i gradually added stuff to over a few years, but never got around to doing a proper mix job. not really sure im ever going to be able to make it as good as i always wanted it to be tho. its pretty lo-fi all around, lots of stuff was recorded to cassette and also ran through an old tube amp from a 1950s turntable/radio console. think the mix is kinda cool as it is, even if it is a bit shitty
