If you are a prolific musician you should have your work on a cloud or at the very least have separate drives with copies of your work. In his situation I would have had a drive on my person for the trip. The gear is replaceable, but the work isn't.

This. That's why I always save my Live folders in a cloud (right now OneDrive cause I don't need that much space).

I saw him play live about a month before all his stuff got pinched and he had an amazing amount of gear. Must have been awful having all that stuff nicked. Mind you, saw him do an amazing show years back with not much more that a guitar and a looper pedal, stripping things back can give some interesting results.
