  1. Just out of curiosity: socialism a political philosophy, right? Like conservatism and liberalism. And capitalism not so much, right? Could be me, but capitalism in itself is a-political and a-moral. Right? There's no "socialism is the opposite of capitalism", right? Or am I missing something.
  2. Depends on what is meant with " problems with capitalism". I think the problem of understanding what capitalism actually is, and is not, is typically a fwp. Seeing that its mostly a fw debate.
  3. Move thread to first world problems please.
  4. wtf? what was it? i'm scared.... I'm still amazed, and confused even, at how these two were accepted in a completely homophobic timeslot. ( not implying the current time isnt homophobic, btw) People werent that naieve, right?

wait! what!? does that mean i could do a dublin myself as well? no f-ing way! that's awesome!
  6. Some people (read: mr suarez) are not qualified to give their opinion on matters like these.
  7. At this moment, all I can think of is to just stop buying physical bullshit alltogether. All that physical crap makes it more elaborate to release stuff. It's a waste of valuable resources. Not only time, but also natural resources. The next artist I'll see preaching that Western society is being unsustainable and at the same time wants to press his work on pieces of oil ... Well... He or she deserves a bitchslap. To say the least.
  8. Sorry, no. Seemed to fit nicely between the words social and networks. Excuse my nobjockery. Peace.
  9. !? Was that supposed to be some kind of passive aggressive "LOL/roll eyes"?
  10. In the late eighties/ early nineties there was a friend of a friend who got these mixtapes of Belgian New Beat, which was a thing back then. These tapes got me interested in the music which was played in club at the time. At that point that was pretty underground. And even the commercial tunes were alright. Thinking about Inner citys Good life, btw. But the combination of these mixtapes and selected shows on the radio got me into buying records (12 inches mostly). And i guess i got introduced through a label like R&S to stuff like aphex and detroit techno. It was when stuff got really commercialised, that i went into the opposite direction, i guess. At first the more techno side of the spectrum. But later also the more melodic side. Without the internet, it was mostly reading reviews in specialised magazines (on paper!) and a couple of radioshows which brought any information. I think it was when reading reviews of tri repetae that sparked my interest. The reviewer talked about this complex music which would bring tears to the eyes of some alien on a distant planet, or something. Obviously, being in my alien teens and completely against the commercial nonsense which was spreading like fire amongst my peers ( think 2unlimited), I just had to find out what this counter culture of cerebral beauty was about. So about that time the Warp thing got on my radar. And it was in 97 i guess, when i actually jumped on the ae band wagon with chiastic slide. The first time i heard it, it was a collection of wtf moments. For me and the cat, btw. Especially the second track which was more noisy than anything i had heard until that point. I remember the cat running away scared when the second track starts with these high pitched noises. And i was probably thinking why on earth anyone would put that on a record. It took me a couple of listens to understand and appreciate the mixture of these noises which would translate into some kind of rhythms and melodies. The first track was pretty rewarding very quickly. And the other tracks were pretty rewarding as well, but took more time. So the ae bug stuck, and from then on, any new ae album was guaranteed to introduce a new set of wtf moments.
  11. Haha Luddism. Long time no see. How is he nowadays? See, that's the big nono of being completely removed from the grid, imo. Although I can completely sympathise with the idea of completely checking out, I see it more as a personal responsibility to find a balance between both extremes. Being a part of (social) networks is a fundamental aspect of being human. And lots of good has come from it. There is more to lose than to gain from completely checking out, imo.

Good points! I think they could easily pull off doing music in a more performance / concept art environment.

it could be done in a cheesy way. but it could also be done in a non-cheese way. why not? and i wasn't talking or thinking about "blatantly regurgitate old melodies verbatim" either. i'm not here to win arguments, or anything. just saying i could sympathise with the reviewer.

I think I can sympathise. If an Ae gig is kind of a rare event, I can imagine an hour is a bit short. Even though it's completely new stuff. Why not f#ck around for another hour, but redoing the old classics with their current set up? Which is a ridiculous thing to say, i know. But most people would only need a couple of hints of old melodies and old rhythms to recognise the reference, i think. A good example is cygnus using some eggshell bit in his set. Or the gantz graf f-ckery. I'd assume it would be a nice experiment to try and reproduce some of those tunes with their current set up. To have those tunes constructed and deconstructed at the same time.
  15. Apparently Jdub isn't short for "Jessica likes teh dub".
  16. "Me"? I'm not a facebook user, but I'm assuming this means you were logged in as Jessica when you took the screengrab?
  17. Didn't he have a daughter? Lets call her Jessica and see how the puzzle piece fits.

No excuses. Still no good place to look for new good music. Yes I know those late night shows. And yes, I was well aware of the AMP in your previous post. Good to see you actually care though.

MTV is n00b, obviously. It's just not a place to look for good music. What the hell were you doing there? Only if you really care though. And I know you do. Also, lol
  21. ... I'm not too happy with what you did in the rolling lol thread, "friend". so, i'll keep some reservations.
