  1. Yeah, the 1 has the optional polyphony expansion that adds a card slot; the 2 has the card slot built in, and the 2X doesn't have a card slot but has more internal preset storage. I think for the 2, the case is the same for the 1, in which adding a card allows you to save drumkit patches, as well as the additional melodic patch storage. For some reason, without the card, you can't save drumkits.
  2. Nord Lead 2 + Digitone would be a pretty fkn amazing synthesis combination tbh. I haven't used my DN with my Nord yet but I really should soon. OR.. NL2's four outputs -> four OT inputs.. Nord in multi mode with each part going to a separate mono out (or even in the 2x stereo mode) = synthesis bliss. I remain convinced that the Nord Lead is the best synth ever made. I've never had such an immediate but long lasting connection with a synth. Every time I turn it on I surprise myself at how quickly I can come up with something unique.
  3. You could easily get a Nord Rack 2 or even 2X for way under 1k. I frequently see them on facebook/gumtree/ebay for ~$600-700AUD and am very tempted to get one, even though I already have the first gen Nord Lead.
  4. Oh yeah, I meant literally storing pattern data as pixel colours. PNG is lossless so converting pixel colour and position into pattern data wouldn't be too hard. Max and Processing together should be able to do something like that.
  5. Yeah, I haven't used it much in the past year (apart from on the Teledildonix release) as I haven't been doing much meticulous/prog stuff, but I hope to get back to it someday.
  6. mm/dd/yy triggers my (fake) OCD. dd/mm/yy is better because it's small to big, but also problematic for sorting. yyyy-mm-dd is clearly the best way; sort first by year, then month, then date in file lists. This is how I've been organising my track files since 2003..
  7. I'll definitely make some videos. I have an idea for basically a clone of nanoloop for the lightpad; not sure if it'll be practical to make something like that for it though. From there I'd like to expand it further with generative stuff like pattern/parameter morphing, euclidean pattern generators, etc etc.. Basically what I started last year with pd but then ran into a wall because I never developed any pattern save/reload features. Also there's an idea I had about saving pattern data as a PNG, being able to edit in Photoshop (for example) and then loading it back in to manipulate patterns in weird ways.
  8. oh damn, a sticker too? fuck maybe I'll have to buy a copy of the CD box after all
  9. update to my GAS situation: About to sell 0-coast JV1080 still for sale Swapping Reface DX for CP soon Monomachine stays for now Purchased a Max subscription and a Roli Lightblock to hopefully restart my custom sequencer ideas I suggest you try its multisampling feature, to create sample-based instruments out of your softsynth presets. Even if it means baking LFOs etc into a sample.. there are so many great things that you can do with sample sequencing in Renoise. But then again, I come from an oldskool sample tracker background, so tracker effects like portamento, vibrato etc are essential.
  10. Burn-in is a myth imo. It's more about your ears getting used to different sounding headphones. It's definitely possible to damage headphones by putting too much signal through them, but I doubt anything within normal operating range (ie. of a headphone out) would blow them.
  11. oh yeah! I've only listened to that album once but after hearing that track again in the film I'm gonna have to revisit it for sure

if sean stopped sweeping the floor while rob figured out the sound design it might have turned out a little better

revisited this in full yesterday on my new nura headphones, a pretty good listen imo.. a lot of tracks sound quite "airy" on them, not sure how to explain it, but kinda pleasantly sparse..? but then again there are some total bangerz sooo still don't like pendulu casual though
  14. I saw it just now as well! Yeah, I'm inspired too, it's made me want to actually pick up an instrument again and play, instead of just sequencing.
  15. Checking out their album Anareta now. Great style, very much the oldskool late 80s/early 90s style of death metal, I like it! I'm really starting to warm to the somewhat less "precise" early death metal style vocals, as opposed to the Corpsegrinder style that I had become accustomed to (which I still love, tbh).
  16. oh man that disk union store is the BEST I bought so much autechre from there and the one in shimokitazawa, including Untilted for ~$15AUD lol
  17. sounds like Mastodon and yeah, great solo!
  18. True.. but the mk2s are the way forward, like it or not. I suppose I could see if I can send it to Elektron to get serviced and then maybe pick it up when I'm visiting in October lol.. would Elektron even do a full test/service on a machine?
  19. Yeah, the mobile version is great, but I'm more inspired by the GBA version. I find it much quicker to get ideas down using buttons than the touch interface. Also, the pattern storage is a lot better for live use imo.
  20. Yeah, sometimes I feel like I should just embrace the stupid amount of creativity I have with nanoloop2 and stick with that. I've used it much more than any of my hardware, at least for finished music.
  21. Yeah the Axoloti route is another one I've thought about. I do quite like the sound of the Nord's oscillators/filters/effects though; that's probably the one thing I'll miss about it. That said, I'll keep my original Nord Lead forever, so will always have that Nord sound at hand. Maybe I'll just replace the Modular with a Micro, as most of my patches are all self-contained anyway and don't use polyphony. I have the Digitone so am familiar with the new sensitive encoders. They're a pain, but I'll either get used to them or Elektron will address it (I assume they will at some point). I wouldn't be against just getting another (new) OT mk1; I can tell things are starting to show signs of failure in my current one so would rather just replace it than try to fix it up. It's got a bit of cosmetic wear as well so it'd be nice to have a shiny new one :P
  22. Yeah the Linnstrument looks lush, I'd love to have a play on one. I'm in a bit of an anti-GAS mood at the moment. I've been looking at my studio and thinking it's way too cluttered to be considered a nice comfortable workspace. My current thoughts are to get rid of: JV1080: somewhat impulse purchase; I can easily replace it with software romplers 0-coast: sounds great but cbf hardware modular Monomachine: again, sounds great but I just don't have time; it should go to someone who will use it properly OT mk1: it's getting old so might just sell it cheap and disclose the minor issues, which are easily fixed and replace all of those with an OT mk2. Maybe one day sell the Nord Modular as well, as much as I love it, with the aim of getting back into pd and possibly getting a Max subscription. I dunno. I'll think about it for a while, but there are definitely things I should get rid of.
  23. man, why did nobody tell me that Enslaved were like a black metal Isis? almost makes me want to try making post-metal again, actually reminds me of one of my old songs lol
  24. I'm still not into fleure that much, I still think it sounds like the kind of FFT/spectral weirdness stuff that I was doing in 2002.. mixed with that nautilis track also from 2002
