  1. I appreciate their dedication to a very singular sound, but as a result I feel like I don't even really need to listen to this album.. :P
  2. The OT is a forever instrument for me, so I can't really give unbiased advice.. How long have you had it for? If you're just not feeling it, it may be time to move it on, but if you haven't explored what it can do, you should probably give it some more time.
  3. Brian Bennett is amazing, even these days. I have no doubt that he'd be able to play in a technical death metal band if he wanted, lol also, obligatory:
  4. And lots of NIN. I swear half of Ghosts was used in it..
  5. Another new sound pack / OP-Z track.. This time I tried my hand at synthesising some drums for synthwave. It was a good challenge! I think the snares and kicks ended up sounding really great. Sound pack here
  6. thx m8! Yeah I'll probably do new takes/edits of those tracks and put an EP out, and maybe include the sysex files and samples I used..
  7. It's very easy to sync this with Elektron USB-MIDI gear..
  8. Ah yeah I knew about that, but for some reason thought it didn't work on the arp track. I'll have to try it again!
  9. Yeah, I'll have to look into it a bit more, now that I've settled with it a bit. I think I was trying to just press record+play and turn the speed encoder, but it appears that record mode is only for notes? Like, I have to actually *hold* record while adjusting the parameter? It can though! It's the only current Elektron box that allows arpeggiator parameter locks.
  10. oh I'm sure I'd get paid adequately if I were in a cover band or something lol. I have played some semi-high profile gigs where I've been paid adequately though! Truth is, promoters are often doing it just because they love putting on gigs. Many of them, especially in the chip/idm scenes, fail to even break even, let alone turn a profit, so I don't blame them for not offering to pay performers.. but it does make it easier to turn people down who aren't my friends.
  11. I've had a few things sent from a Japanese eBay store (ms_tokyo) and they have not only been packed incredibly well, but they've also arrived unusually quickly.. and they always put cute little notes in the packages. Just thought I'd share a positive story :D
  12. Yeah Lem's stuff is incredible, no matter what machine he uses. I'm sure he's responsible for many sales haha
  13. Made a meandering video showing some of my sample packs. Things went a bit industrial, and the last track is a bit Gescom-y, maybe? Anyway, I also changed the name of my channel..
  14. Yeah, to be fair, the Melbourne chip scene is heading more towards "chill" gigs where it really does feel like what you described—quiet, seated gigs at a small bar where the performers aren't under any pressure to play dance bangerz. Those are the gigs I do still love playing! But I also love having one or two people over and doing a live stream, or putting jam videos up on youtube. And given my recent experiments with selling sample packs, it's a good way to demo what I'm selling. Plus I don't have to take my gear out of the studio and risk someone (other than me lol) spilling a beer on it :P
  15. It was a conscious decision at the start of last year, but also seemed to coincide with the offers dying down! I decided to concentrate on my online content for a while, which is, in a way, more satisfying than playing gigs. Also, taking thousands of dollars of gear out of the studio, in order to play a 30 min set, to 20 people, with free beers often the only payment, just didn't seem worth it anymore. Of course I still play in the chiptune scene whenever they ask me, and likewise when my friends organise gigs.. but if it's someone I don't know, I've decided to only play if it's a paid gig.
  16. wow that good ha?! do use for live gigs? interestingly, im also planning to go completely max (+supercollider) in a few years from now but somehow in parallel im buying or planning to buy hw more than ever, like im in some kind of resistance :) Yeah, I don't play many gigs anymore, but it's always at least part of my setup, unless I'm doing a 1x nanoloop set. It pairs super well with the Monomachine; I'm definitely gonna have to play some more gigs with the two machines together. Ha, completely max is tempting, but I'm the kind of person who needs limitations. I guess I could build limitations into my patches as well :D
  17. Tough call, but I'd always suggest getting an OT first, over almost anything else. It's a "forever" instrument for me.
  18. Honestly I think it'd be the opposite. Their music is way less proggy/complex than a lot of the current prog metal (cf. Haken, Periphery etc) so I'm prepared for it to be kinda.. boring?
  19. I might have to buy some of your packs. :) Thanks :D If you buy some, let me know if you use them in tracks. I'm keen to hear what other people make with my samples! My aim is to release a new pack every 1–2 weeks. I had a bit of a break over the new year, but I'm working on a huge Nord Lead pack, with all kinds of sounds from standard (but unique) kicks/snares, to weird SOPHIE-esque bubble/liquid/material sounds, as well as a bunch of samples for the synth sampler. I may have to split it in two though, or price it *slightly* higher, as it's taking me some time to get it all together.
  20. Sound quality is among the best I've heard. They're not flat sounding, so not good for monitoring, but the bass is deep yet balanced and everything is crystal clear. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
  21. I have a pair with the same speakers (S01), but with the E06 (leatherette) pads instead.. and the default cable/headband options. They're awesome. I don't tend to use them much anymore because I have the nuraphones, which are way ahead in terms of isolation (I use headphones mostly at work and on public transport so isolation/no sound leakage is important), but I'm definitely not going to sell them.
  22. I think that's gonna be my push into eurorack.. being able to get some cheap utility modules to go with the specialty stuff would be great. My finger keeps hovering over the Arturia Rackbrute just because it's an easy solution.
  23. I can't do it anymore lol.. unless one day I write a script to generate some random piece of music and a comment every week. I'm concentrating on sound design for 2019.
