  1. Yeah I'm just guessing at what their methods are but the sounds are harsh to my ears. SIGN is sweeter and more melodic though which is why I'm liking it a lot. I'm hoping there's more to come in that vein.
  2. I'm ok with noisy music. I was more of an industrial fan before getting into IDM in the 90s. The problem I have with a lot of Ae's more recent work is that it's harsh digital noise. It sounds like high mod FM that's been allowed to alias all over the place. I'm sure it's deliberate but I find it unpleasant to listen to.
  3. This thread motivated me to go back and listen to Oversteps again. Like a lot of Ae records I'm enjoying it much more in hindsight. I think I just really hate the 3rd track but the rest of it is right up there with their best work.
  4. EP7 is definitely one of their best and a big jump forward in their style when it came out. It kind of set the stage for a lot of what followed.
  5. I'm having a hard time thinking of any other artists that have had such a long run of consistently interesting releases. I'm glad to have them all.
  6. His earlier records are good too if you like that one.
  7. I'm not sure if this album really fits with WATMM but I love it so I'm posting anyway. Think electronic/jazz/vapor fusion. He gets into some very IDM beats on track 4. If Squarepusher came up in the vapor scene he might sound like this.
  8. Bisk was a favorite of mine back in the day. This is extremely well done. I'm not sure if it's my cup of tea but I'm impressed.
  9. I like their more recent work too but I do miss the prettier sounds from their earlier days. One of the reasons I like SIGN so much is that it's sweeter to the ear than a lot of their late period stuff.
  10. Yeah aside from Amber I'm partial to those too. Untilted especially was an exciting step forward.
  11. If I had to pick one Ae record it would be Amber, but I'm glad I don't have to pick. For a while now their music has been something I admire more than enjoy but I do like the direction they took on Sign. I'd be happier if they dialed back the harsh FM sounds.
  12. Yeah those Steinbrick & Sugai Ken albums are great.
  13. Yeah I agree. Very consistent label.
  14. This is turning out to be a great weekend for fans of modern variants of IDM.
  15. Yeah agreed. He's moved beyond tribute and found his own voice.
  16. Nice production and rhythms on this one too. From Istanbul!
  17. Sadly this shows how meagre my own Digitone skills are.
  18. I missed his earlier release on Schematic but the first play through on this definitely held my attenion. Very abstract with some nice sound design.
  19. I did forget about this but just put it on again yesterday and really enjoyed it. Great record, IMO.
  20. Never heard of this guy before but I guess he's usually more of a hip hop producer. In any case this new ambient EP really is lovely. Sorry no crazy origin story this time!
  21. Haha yes that is my own little contribution to WATMM.
