  1. Yup, that's it! By Trance build-up thing, I didn't mean something like arpeggios, it wasn't an aesthetical observation, but one about the logics of it. The way these long epic notes came up, it felt so much like a drop was coming. It didn't sound like Trance, it just was a section that worked within the logic of these build-up / drop stunts if that makes sense. Genuinely amazed to see how hard it is to capture their pristine live sound, that really hit me when I'd listened to the bootlegs from last year and then comparing them to the soundboards. Never thought of that but this really makes sense yeah.
  2. Cool! I knew about Sunken Foal, but had no clue he had multiple monikers. Time to check him out more thoroughly. True about the volume, it really could+should have been louder.
  3. Looked him up, yeah, it's him! Thanks a bunch.
  4. Dublin was absolute killer! My prayers had been answered as I really wanted to hear more of second half London B, and that's how it started. They went all the way through with that London B stuff, and from then on, it was beats. BEATS, I tell you! So fecking good... The constant was that deep long tuned kick drum that you, yes, you, also love from London B. At around an hour they ramped up the tempo. I was seated up on one of the balconies, so I had a pretty good view of them and at some point near the end, S leaned over to R and they seemed to quickly agree on how they're gonna finish. Some few minutes after that, the beats broke off and this massive buzzing epic melody comes up, almost like a Trance build-up thing. First thought: "Oh yeah, there's a big drop coming". But then, another thought appeared: "They will never go for a cheap move like that". And they didn't. The melody was just cut off and the concert ended. I was laughing so hard. R+S did a funny! Think I saw both of them grin as they were packing up. I was too blown away to think of getting a shirt, when I made it to the stand, they had just been sold out. I highly recommend attending this gig, but it's in the past now. Edit: Who can tell me who that guy was that was playing as support? Sounded like NMB to me, or maybe someone else from Skam.
  5. Really?? Damn. Glad the commission happened. Also, the remix is absolute ace.

I retract my statement. I need this movie.

lol indeed. Come to think of it, a film about Autechre will probably never happen. Not enough drama in there it seems to me. No rock stars, no allures, Just two sound blokes maxing it in their home studios.
  8. I got what they meant: DJs performing with big gestures, pushing faders up and down with these fast movements that have only one purpose: To make their act look like it's all casual genius, "I'm in full control of this shit". But I didn't know why they called it "hot", until this morning when I suddenly got what the joke was: When DJs are sliding faders with these very fast movements, it looks a bit like the way you touch things when they are really hot: You try and touch them for as short as possible, so you don't burn yourself. Look at a superstar DJ and you'll often see these show elements, holding the fader between thumb and index finger, as if their hands were pincers, and then going for these fast slides all the time. This gave me a good chuckle. I don't know if this is a standard joke or if Sean and/or Rob came up with it, but it's pretty funny. Meanwhile, Autechre look like they're playing Minecraft together: Completely absorbed, no time for showmanship.
  9. That synth and that melody in the beginning, and the way it's playing around with the other melodics elements: This reminds me so much of the atmosphere of walking around in an old 90s game, like Simon the Sorcerer when you're out exploring strange forests. It has that dreamy adventure mood. Also, this album + Move of Ten has all these arpeggios and playful melody lines that were so much a part of game music back in the days. It's kind of proggy, but in the really not annoying way.
  10. @Summon Dot E X E Thanks to your known(1) thread I am playing Oversteps again for the first time in AGES, it's so good?!? Also, lol, as I can see my Oversteps files are still the same I ripped straight from CD back when the album was out, and back in the days when I would manually enter all titles. My file is still called "Treale --),.mp3". Same with Yuop. I honestly never knew that the --), wasn't a part of the titles. Only realised this now when I went to find a youtube link for this track. I guess this was Ian then? It's part of the sleeve design, not of the title?
  11. Yeah, this facet of Autechre rules. I love that quiet cold autumn mood. Not that I know of, discogs only lists the original vinyl as far as I can see. I also once downloaded all files of this that I could find on Soulseek, but they were mostly all different quality versions of the same ripped file. Unfortunately, an "Autechre rAerities" compilation seems like a never ever.
  12. I took mushrooms last year and ended up listening to this on repeat for 3 hours.
  13. I don't know if PC is applicable to your question. Also, all my recommendations are old. But I can recommend: No More Room In Hell: Solid survival horror co-op zombie shooter. Don't even bother trying to kill them all. Move fast and survive. This game is hard. Very satisfying with a good team. Free to play on sTeAm. Out of Hell: UT 2004 total conversion mod. Single player. Extremely atmospheric. Cold and lonely! Zombies and demons. Again, move fast and use your wits, it's another hard game, and the point is to survive, not to kill them all. What I really liked about this game was that it never answered the question of what happened. You keep finding clues in the form of notes from other people, but they all are based on biases: Notes from scientists try to explain it as a virus. Then you come across a new-age / wicca / pagan magic bookshop where you find "clues" that it's aliens. It's a lot more creepy with no full explanation. Oh, also the game has a pitchfork as a melee weapon, which turned out to be my favourite. The mod was authored by one guy alone and it took him 5 years or so. This is a work of love. He's been working on a remake in UE4 for more than 10 years now. This is going to be good. Total Chaos: A DOOM wad. Only played this a little during the lockdowns. Extremely unpleasant and creepy atmosphere. Felt a lot like a cross between Resident Evil and Silent Hill.
  14. Ah Melt, of course! And GrÄfenhainichen, of course... Never been to either.
  15. I'm still perplexed they played in Grafenhainichen of all places back in 2014. Does anybody know what the venue was like? Was that gig part of some festival?
  16. There might be references that I might just not catch. But I think that the Old School Hip Hop influence runs deeper. It's not about emulating a particular sound. It's an approach. Get yours. Do your thing and go for it. Old School Hip Hop, Djing/Scratching, Graffiti, Breakdance: All these are free expressions in the moment. But they do require a lot of practice, and true dedication. I think that this is at the core of Autechre. They also often bring up graffiti, and I don't think that's for street cred. I think graffiti, as an approach, is the truly deep influence on Autechre. What Autechre are doing with rhythm and melody is what graffiti writers are doing with words and characters: Push them to an extreme level of abstraction. It's not academic, it's very immediate. It's Fresh!! No wonder they started making music with Max where they can forever create variations of very particular ideas instead of forcing these ideas into fixed tracks. Just like someone tagging in their own style, but playing with that style in every tag, so every tag also always looks different, too. In graffiti, you simply suck if all your tags and pieces look the same, and I think Autechre always had this ambition of being what in graffiti is called "king". These guys never half-assed anything in music is my guess. Anyway, I was just about to write a question as I had read your post as "snake-like sounds" as "an Electro staple" and I really wanted to know more but as I was beginning to write, I realized it was just "snare-like" so now I get it =D
  17. This test doesn't tell you whether or not you are on the spectrum. Neither does it pretend to. It tells you that if you score above a certain value, you might want to consider seeing an expert about this. How detailed do you want those questions? This is not how these tests work. It would only get more confusing and bureaucratic! You can go into the finer details of these questions with a psychologist. Some people have very, very clear answers to questions like "I would rather study at the library than go to a party.", so these questions help in evaluating whether or not the topic at hand has anything to do with you. If your life is fine and you see nothing wrong with it, well, that's great. If it's not, and you can't quite put your finger on why that is, and the same problems keep repeating in your life, then a questionnaire like this can open up certain possible topics to bring up in therapy, which can lead you to a referral, which can lead you to a proper expert, which can lead you to a proper diagnosis, which, and this is the crucial part, can lead you to finding help with certain issues that require specific tools and practices to address, thereby allowing to stop whipping yourself for things that aren't your fault.
  18. Yeah.. Me too. Been spending a lot of time with these live sets again as of late. Perfect for cycling in autumn
  19. Oh yeah, nice! Digital is out on bandamp. Accurate description, so it absolutely does =D
