  1. lol yeah my thoughts exactly. while the writing is actually quite decent the reviewer didn't really describe the music at all or at least how it relates to the rest of ae's output (only in obvious terms like length etc.). ah well. edit: i kinda dug the sentiment of them branching off the the spirit of the 80s into a seperate exclusive time/spaceline.

  5. https://www.discogs.com/de/Bernard-Parmegiani-L%C5%92uvre-Musicale-En-12-CD/release/1289349 i never leave the house without it. that's pretty wicked actually.
  6. Really? oh yeah, this hasn't been established, has it i kind of assumed they were performed like AE_LIVE because it's called "sessions" which basically always means performance in this context i feel like s&b would want to do it that way i think it's pretty safe to say it wasn't. consider how quickly all of it went online after transmissions with tracklists n all, also how obviously planned, conceived and edited as fuk lots of it is. i'd buy that quite some tracks were jammed at their studio (casuals) tho. according to aaa peel sessions were done in their studio, too, so yeah... who really cares tho.
  7. Splesh is structurally great. It's a bicinium with an ostinato melody and the other voice play around it, sometimes bellow like a bass or above like melody or keeps the harmonic bass-structure but plays above and vice-versa. Even alters the rhythmic feel a lot of times and so on. There is a lot of contrapunctic play going on. For the finale a third voice is joining in for great effect. yeah structure isn't the problem, it's actually quite dynamic on the x axis, too. ninefly for example has alot less developement yet i still prefer it by quite a margin... dunno. it just has this weird chirpy mood i don't find myself in often (in terms of music)... < grumpy cat, i guess. can't overemphasize how i pretty much love every other second of the sessions tho (the only other outlier being the one whose name shall not be spoken...*cough*). it's so fucking great it's nuts really. i think overall elseq felt a bit more cerebral and introspective, most of this stuff feels more in yo face and sprawling.
  8. see this for me is a perfect example of a track that has bit of a goofy vibe goin while still totally slaying and those synths turn it to something breathtakingly beautiful midway, striking contrast. splesh and fLh fall in a similar category but still have to earn my full respect, dunno... especially the latter sounds like aural slapstick to me without much on top of it, also overstaying its welcome. splesh at least has some interesting sound design and yeah the bassline roughly 3/4 in is pretty awesome but it somewhat fails to capitalize on it for the rest of its duration. will keep trying.
  9. pretty cool mashup. It's growing on me. Not a favorite but I like it more now than I did the first couple times. that one's hard to pin down for me, emotionally. it's like listening to something trying to get into gear unavailingly for 15 minutes, the struggle is quite something to behold, tho. certainly feels like one of the jammier ones on 2 but there are shitloads of singular events and details in the there to dissect. grower fo sho.
  10. As I bare a bit of the responsibility for that, I would like to apologize. I've been trying to get it back on track ever since... But I seem to be failing. =X relax. it's not like aimless snobisms without taking any actual stance besides joining some alleged cool club are helping to raise the quality of discussion much either.
  11. apparently still unable to grasp the issue, probably too tarded after all. sorry for insulting everyone's intelligence. can't remember there being such an uproar when these were hip: https://forum.watmm.com/topic/50677-autechre-in-stereo-difference/ yeah slowing shit down to an arbitrary speed is trivial and pointless to 99,9% of mankind but there is actually life beyond EKT spheres and just why even fucking bother...
  12. Right, not saying anyone should or shouldn't do whatever the hell they want. Autechre themselves are very pro-cut up/mod tunes/etc. I've done it before, sampled, made versions of tracks, playlists of favorites, all of that, I just give it some time before I start fucking with it. well one thing is certain: these sessions keep on giving and giving. i have quite literally listened to nothing else since they've been out (except own shit and some assorted other chre to mix it up a bit) and i discover shitloads of new details every. single. time. ... how they amassed this much quality material over the course of 2 years is just beyond me. (sure, some tunes might have been in the vault for longer and some stuff is derived from the live set, but still...) that being said: manipulating these tracks in certain ways might seem cheap and pointless but c'mon, it's just some harmless discovery fun, calling it downright stupid or lacking respect is a bit disproportionately disdainful imo. one could be similarly dismissive of listening to a record being scratched as "it's like reading a page then turning one back just to read the same page again, silly!"... dunno. I didn't call it stupid or say it lacked respect (can't speak for the other joking about it ITT by others), I was just stating my personal opinion, really more how I do things and find it odd how differently others approach it. Seems a bit weird to me for various reasons, but as I said, I was mostly just ranting. I agree with auxien. It just shows lack of respect. Are you doing the same thing with other kinds of music? How often do you say „oh a great rock song but shitty lyrics, I will write my own!’. Do you do the same stuff with paintings? ‚Great picture but lacks some green shades, will paint them over’. The music we have is a complete piece of art. I really doubt that Ae would put out a record with mastering they dont like. If you dont enjoy it, it’s ok, nothing’s wrong with it. Just stick to tracks you fancy and others may grow on you with time. well, the point i was trying to make earlier with my (admittedly rather lacking) scratching analogy: if it wasn't for the occasional dissing of original artistic intent there wouldn't be any hip hop as we know it and thus probably no ae to begin with either. also ironically especially on NTS that "let's paint it over"-thing is what they did themselves with quite a few tracks (elyc6/9, bladelores/all end). i mean it's not like slowing down shit somehow alters all copies of the audio worldwide, destroying the original art or anything. it's just taking one going "what if?" for shits n giggles.

Autechre themselves are very pro-cut up/mod tunes/etc. I've done it before, sampled, made versions of tracks, playlists of favorites, all of that, I just give it some time before I start fucking with it. edit: that's sorta my main point with the 'rant' I guess: it seems like people's first reactions are "hm, didn't like this the first time I heard it, guess it would be better if I did this or that or if the kick drum was better lol ae can't make the kick drum sound how I want it" when (again, IMO) the reaction should be "weird kick drum/track, but I generally think this artist is doing well otherwise so maybe I need to reassess this track later, try and hear it how they intended rather than how I want it to sound" - very much still old man ranting at the sky here tho guys. IMHO well one thing is certain: these sessions keep on giving and giving. i have quite literally listened to nothing else since they've been out (except own shit and some assorted other chre to mix it up a bit) and i discover shitloads of new details every. single. time. ... how they amassed this much quality material over the course of 2 years is just beyond me. 15. Hmm not far off but I think 3 is the weirdest and 2 (at least in the 1st half) has the most energy. i feel energy is quite evenly distributed among 1-3 (l3, elyc, tt1pd...). 3 is the weirdest by far tho (unless you think a lack of obvious beats counts as most unusual at least in ae context, then 4 qualifies, too i guess).
  16. dug the simple conversational format, comfortable mix of notions which reflect my own and unfamiliar angles, enjoyable! also finally someone pointed out the bladelores ending in all end... i mean i don't expect every music journalist to catch on more obscure references like from the live sets but that's like one of their biggest hits from the last "official" album-album, was genuinely surprised noone had mentioned it yet. the only thing unforgivable is the attribution of AAA to reddit. :O
  17. This is cool. I like l3 ctrl slowed i really enjoyed elyc9, the spleshes seemed to reveal even more details to them.
  18. Sorry to hear about your dog :( yeah, condolences.
  19. i counted 16 including variatons. there's a "regular" review on there, too, btw. same author: https://skug.at/autechre-nts-sessions-1-4/
