  1. It's really not - but there are serious issues with underfunding. Yes the social studies curricula should be more inclusive with respect to First Nations and other indigenous peoples, but on the whole, the teachers and schools do an extraordinary job. Teachers should be paid more, and funding needs to be put back in so that course materials are provided by the school and not paid out of the teachers' pockets.
  2. As well as that loss of social interaction (which I totally agree with you on, it's vital to their development), it's so fucking privileged, like the two tech workers who probably think they are woke as fuck, but instead of advocating to make public schools better, "oh we'll just hire some mandarin and maths (as examples) teachers".
  3. https://www.wired.com/story/pandemic-homeschoolers-who-are-not-going-back/ Kind of COVID, kind of America - but this shit is enraging to me.
  4. Not kids assuredly, but these high net worth individuals in super communist China sure don’t like the new national security law: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-hongkong-protests-china-wealth-idUSKBN2340QC So they probably love all the stories about deregulation that came out during the Trump reign of terror.
  5. CCP afraid of some candles: https://news.rthk.hk/rthk/en/component/k2/1594419-20210605.htm
  6. That’s true. In my defense, I was under the influence of copious amounts of vodka when I posted that. Don’t drink and post.
  7. Not how does the world China these days, but I'd never seen this particular archive of the Tiananmen Square massacre before: https://archive.ph/7Tdzh Many pictures of dead bodies, as a warning.
  8. I said it in the Midnight Sun thread, but FI3AC2142090 is a fucking banger. I hope so. It's a new direction from the Midnight Sun series, which I guess is why he released it under the ovuca name ?
  9. https://www.who.int/en/activities/tracking-SARS-CoV-2-variants/ WHO is renaming the variants for the less literate - and the meme potential is high - why is the UK variant the "alpha"? h/t to @rhmilo's article.
  10. Indeed. I might put this one slightly ahead of his more recent output (IMO) but his releases are so consistently good.
  11. Anthony Rother has blessed the world with a gargantuan record. https://anthonyrother.bandcamp.com/album/the-ccm-corporation-2
  12. Three articles on the lab leak hypothesis. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-57268111 https://thebulletin.org/2021/05/the-origin-of-covid-did-people-or-nature-open-pandoras-box-at-wuhan/ https://harvardtothebighouse.com/2020/03/19/china-owns-nature-magazines-ass-debunking-the-proximal-origin-of-sars-cov-2-claiming-covid-19-wasnt-from-a-lab/ Someone asked why it matters - I think the answer is obvious:
  13. One of my earliest treasures was a Sears sampler cassette that included the powerful love ballad "the air that I breathe". Which I later turned into this: Sometimes Julios Needs Airs.mp3
  14. My fav version has to be the µ-ziq 7 Minute Mix (which is actually only 3:46), followed very closely by the Plaid remix.
  15. Late to the LOVE-in:
  16. Lol what a story. Baby blowouts are amazing too. Wouldn’t even think it’s possible for so much excrement to come out of someone so small. Re: monthly visits, you gotta out your foot down. Tell the missus you’re willing to be the bad guy, but if it’s causing stress like that, sounds like it needs to be done. Im definitely not the best person to ask for advice though, cause my relationship with my parents is friendly but distant. Distant for a reason lol
  17. Please post video of yourself doing this for posterity and educational purposes.
  18. What kind of fucking savage wears shoes in the house? That’d warrant the death penalty round mine. Obvs tricky with your missus not wanting to upset MiL, but fuck, it’s your (plural) house, so totally not unreasonable to have some ground rules. Also I’m not letting you just gloss over the human shit story.
  19. Except for all the private sector activity (it may make up 25% of the economy). That same article also describes how the NK Budget from 2020 establishes that local units are left to fend for themselves and also contribute to the state economy (i.e. instead of money being redistributed, it all flows into the central party holdings) They’re an authoritarian military dictatorship where the primary focus of the regime is to keep the family lineage in power. I’ll have to upload a video to YouTube, but it shows how empty of traffic the streets of Pyongyang really are. The material conditions are grim, and show not much sign of improving.
  20. If you read the article I posted, you’ll see that some do in fact rent the apartments out, acting as landlords. They also often sell them for a profit. I would never claim North Korea is a Marxist country.
