  1. Saw them live last week. That dude must be an autist. The band + the whole show was fantastic. 9th time I've seen them, maybe their best gig that I've seen.
  2. Me too, but are we really comparing this tepid pastiche to Steely Dan?
  3. You have a point. There is a big difference still - the Rephlex stuff is part of an ongoing scene/development, made by unknowns in their bedrooms on amateur budgets. Daft Punk, on the other hand, is one of the world's most lauded artists, with million dollar budgets and a seemingly unlimited access to legendary collaborators. Yet they end up recreating an orthodox form of disco that has been frozen in ice for the last 30 years.
  4. Are you exaggerating now? I agree BoC are all about nostalgia and longing, but they're not really a throwback act, are they?
  5. The problem is exactly this - all of the album has been done before, and much better.
  6. Last 60 seconds or so are pretty decent, the rest is so bland I can't even begin to comprehend it. Had to take two breaks just to get through the album. Note to self: Never play again.
  7. This guy manages to squeeze out quite a few Exai-ish sounds from his MonoMachine: For instance: - deco loc drums around 8-10 minutes - cloudlines "lead" around 40 minutes
  8. Woah what? To me it's a pretty rigid 4/4 pattern. Like, each hit can be placed nicely on a 16th note grid. It's a polymeter pattern - the drums are in 4/4 meter and the bass is in 5/8 meter (at least from the start and for a while). The patterns align every 40 (or is it 20?) quarter notes. Check the explanation and the "Beat Preserving Polymeter 4/4 with 5/8" video here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meter_(music)#Polymeter
  9. Triangular patterns in lower right corner of inner sleeve.

  11. Looks fun, futureimage! Loads of sequencing power.
  12. Thor was the worst film I have seen in my life. Enjoyed Avengers and Iron Man quite a bit, though.
  13. Congrats, looks like fun!
  14. I saw them back in 93 when I had been an OGT since 92 from the first EP and I don't give a damn in my 501's.
  15. Trying to get lucky is in essence a lonesome endeavor. Why does the singer sing about "We" trying to get lucky? Is he so lonely that he's started to speak of himself in the plural form? And also, is he a perpetual failure? I mean, if you actually do get lucky you don't have to stay up all night, do you? He could just as well have sung "I never get lucky and am too ashamed to go to sleep".
