  2. It's sort of a case by case thing. If you're the kind of person who's putting out new demos several times a week then you should probably keep it all in one thread for a while. If you only put out like one thing a year it's probably no big to create a new topic for it
  3. At various points I've tried to make a commitment to listening to & making some semi-substantial comment on at least three things in EKT & at least three things on my SC feed each day, been slack lately but maybe now I'll get back indah game
  4. Random ideas for how to make YLC work better (not sure if they can/should be done just throwing them out there) -only allow members with at least X posts make topics to avoid people joining just to spam -limit number of topics each user can make to 1 (not sure about this one, would reduce clutter a ton but sometimes a fresh start is good) -block obvious spamtrolls like that guy a few months back who just wrote "cool" on dozens of things in the space of a few minutes then made his own threads where he bragged about being way better than Aphex Twin

  6. First listen, a couple of really catchy tracks, couple of surprisingly sloppy ones, rest haven't left a firm impression yet, will have to listen more
  7. ^Well, I don't really keep up with the discussion but my impression was people look at both SAW albums as these mystical things, & DrukQs as this standalone super-complex thing that you either hate it or think it's brilliant, & RDJ Album seems to be the one casual listeners go for because it's 30 minutes long, really catchy, & full of vocal samples (in the USA edition). I don't see people talking about ICBYD as an album as much (just individual tracks off it).
  8. Continuing my RDJ revisiting safari Surfing on Sine Waves - it's weird how much more I like the two added in rerelease tracks than the bulk of the original material. I mean, most of it's pretty aight but clearly early work to my ears, & Portheath Harbour is like dayyyyum gurl. Almost makes me believe he actually did pick stuff at random. I Care Because You Do - I dunno, I think this is the Aphex album people tend to ignore & I can kinda see why. It's at an awkward spot between the early dreamy wandering analogue songs & his tight mid90s pop numbers. And it's the only Aphex album that feels like it has filler material to me (dude has lotsa stuff that's take it or leave it for me, but generally the stuff on the main Aphex Twin albums is all gold). The first track's awesome, Wet Tip Hen Ax is awesome, several others are solid but feel like they drag on too long. I do like what he did with strings, though. Feels very un-techno. Other things from the last week going off toppa my head Yume Nikki Soundtrack Codeine - Frigid Stars Cosmogramma You're a Woman I'm a Machine Reign in Blood Kahimi Karie Clown Core

  13. I didn't mean it in a derogatory sense, I just meant that reading it felt like going to see a large budget summer movie except successfully translated to a 60 issue series
  14. Yeah, there was also some stuff tying in The West Wing & I imagine a few others, but in the previous issues every panel was like a deluge of shoutouts & here it was more focused on specific franchises not complaining just making nitpicks
  15. I was hoping Moore would use the opportunity to touch on more current cultural icons, but I get the feeling his interest in things past the late 1800s sort of tapers of exponentially. Although it is left sort of open-ended so maybe he's planning further LXG story arcs.
  16. I did a while back. Fun comic. Didn't really stick out too much until the last arc when things get all heavy, but still enjoyable. Like a big dumb action movie kinda.
  17. Planning on going through the RDJ discog sequentially (kinda) because it's been a couple years since I really gave any of it a proper listen & there's a lot of his stuff I haven't even heard (namely anything released as Caustic Window or Afx) SAW85-92 - the first half of this album is damn near perfect. I dig the back half but it's always thrown me a bit. I can never quite tell if it's because the tracks are as good as the first bunch & it's just that I tend to reach Aphex overload around the 40 minute mark, or if they aren't as good & it's the residual magic of what came before that's bringing them up to par Also there are a lot more digitalish sounds then I remember there being, maybe it's my imagination but some of the pads strike me as having that nice distinct thin feel Jandek - Your Turn to Fall I've listened to this album like twice as much as I've listened to any Boards of Canada album what's wrong with me Though this one in particular is kinduva highlight of his early pre-band era (the first crazy caveman band era, not the later, "what this almost sounds like music" band era). It's got interesting almost-rhythms on the guitar, he seems more in control of his vocals than usual & actually utilizes melodic motifs, & the first track is one of my all time favourite songs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnelVmOrmLw
  18. http://www.llresearch.org/library/the_law_of_one_pdf/the_law_of_one_pdf.aspx Haven't actually read through this but I scanned a few pages a while back & it's about as close as I've seen to STUFF I SAY WHEN I'M HIGH: THE BOOK (which still isn't actually very close but it's a start)
  19. Bananas in Pyjamas, a gripping crime thriller about Pedro "The Pig" Alfonso (Danny Trejo), a world weary detective known for his brutal but effective techniques, who is on the trail of two serial killers terrorizing Houston - mysterious twin brothers with an alarming skin condition (played by Bruce Willis & Danny Devito)
