Funny thing is, i expect a lot of people will buy this game and not "get it." If you're not the type of person who'd enjoy a long hike alone, or get a thrill from exploring an abandoned building, you may end up scratching your head. Fortunately spending hours poking about the post-apocalyptic wasteland is bliss for me.

I wouldn't mind just wandering around, but I don't have the ammo, stimpaks, or caps to support myself just wandering around for hours. =/ At what point does that shit stop being so hard to find?

PS How do I get to Rivet City?

I guess you just suck. I played it for about 6 hours last night. Default difficulty. I took the girl's quest in megaton and went out into the wastes looking for the family she told me to contact. Went through springfield elementary too. Have been gradually building up and upgrading my store of ammo and supplies. So far it feels perfectly balanced to me. I have enough ammo to get by, but I also run out which makes things tense. I have been able to tackle some enemies, while others I avoid. You must have some bottlecaps by now. I recommend buying some more ammo/stims from one of the roving wasteland merchants (I've come across several so far). Don't forget you can eat a lot of stuff to heal, not just stimpaks. Also, rest to regenerate lost health.

FPs are starting to get boring, wondering around aimlessly for hours in a sandbox envioment. thank christ COD 5 is coming soon, to kick the boredom out of long winded travel FPS.

Nah, that's just because sandbox has been implemented poorly. Especially in games like GTA. So many places to go, but nothing to do. Fallout 3 isn't like that. The environment is incredibly detailed. I think you do have to have the right sort of psyche for it, but I find it much more engaging than the enviros in other "sandbox" games, where everything feels canned and all the guns and ammo are highlighted in neon. But then I'm a complete nut for post-apocalyptic settings.

Yeah I took that girl's quest too, right before I blew Megaton to shit. Finished it by negotiating a truce between Arefu and the vampires. I'm such a nice guy. Right now I gotta find that slave/android that got his face changed and the Declaration of Independence, though I already know where the Declaration is, I just gotta go back and get it. Done playing for today. I like it more when I am just walking around getting quests and talking to people than I do when I have to fight people and shit. Combat is aight, but kind of tedious.

i played far cry 2 for about 2 hrs. I am addicted to Fallout 3. I think there's a real difference, but maybe it's just me.

yeah fallout so far is amazing, insane insane insane amount of detail and places to explore.

just got out of the cave and explored a bit before i head to megaton

some chick on an overpass with a flamethrower scared the shit out of me, ants sound nasty as hell!

edit:

I remember playing oblivion and thinking that the only thing that could make it better would be to be set in a post-apocalyptic universe....got my wish when i heard bethesda was making fallout and i'm soo happy the game is as good as i hoped

ditto. The original Fallouts were what made me choose 3d as a career, and my company contributed a lot of assets to Fallout 3, so I was praying Bethesda wouldn't screw it up. I'm not that far in but so far I'm overjoyed. Sure, the animation is typical below-par Bethesda and the dialogue could be more compelling, but the sum-total is stunning. Basically, my life has come full circle and I can die happy (lol)

god damn the frustrating thing about this game is that there's too much to do! i keep finding doors and terminals and shit that i can't access and it's like ughh i'm never gonna remember to come back and i can't figure out whatever fucking riddle i need to find this randomass key for this randomass door so i'm never gonna know what i just wasted all this effort to find.

tl;dr too many dead ends

Yeah, I think it's safe to say it's going to take a couple of replays to see everything in this game.

I'd say that's a good thing though.

i heard there is a level cap of 20? thats kinda really dissapointing D: unless it goes way way slow

i can see having fun doing shit way different, lots variables....but i liked having one guy with such a large story and past completed stuff, hella crazy stat page

hopefully it isn't too long before the modding system is set up

OK, so I'm about to get on my bike and cycle down to my local HMV to pick this up. I hope they actually have it. I'm a die-hard fan of the first two games, but I'm open-minded and optimistic about this new one. *crosses fingers*

i got this thru the post yesterday and waited till about 3.00am this morning to fire it up (i was finishing the rather excellent dead space).

i'll play for 10mins to see what's what says me - got to bed at 7.00am just intime to be woken by and angry young man demanding milk.

no sleep for me anymore.

ok, what the hell:

(huge spoiler warning)

The character's dad dies? What kind of bullshit is this? I've spent half the game trying to find his ass and now he fucking DIES!?! And in a totally nonsensical manner too! You know, when I got back to the water purity lab with him, I knew this was going to happen. Video games don't let reunions between characters last long. Ever. And then afterwards is an escort mission. Lol fuck this, imma go play some Silent Hill.

edit: oh god i just remembered why i stopped playing silent hill: homecoming a week ago... there was an escort mission. lol.

so far i have lost over 16 hours to this game!!! its fucking amazing

was chatting with a friend of mine at a party last night who game tested it, extensively

during the bit on vault 112 (when you become a little boy) did anyone else find the terminal to control the program?

instead of having to kill people off as the child/doctor asked you to do, i found a secret terminal and started a chinese invasion

killing everyone off except for child/doctor leaving him there by himself FOREVER!!!
