Miles Davis-Birth of the Cool/Kind of Blue

must haves, these two..

anything by Stan Getz is usually interesting, also, try some Louis Armstrong/Ella Fitzgerald...vocal jazz...good stuff.

check out anything by Max Roach, even his youtube videos if you are into the fast jazz drumming stuff

i wish i knew more about Jazz, i listen to a local station in SF 91.1 and they play some awesome stuff sometimes. on sundays they do a latin jazz thing and some of it blows me away, especially the percussion and piano.

i'm burning cds for my dad; he's trying to convert someone to jazz

Is he trying to seduce a woman with a mixtape as well?

Everybody has mentioned Miles but not Sketches of Spain, In a Silent Way, or Jack Johnson...3 of his best.

Might want to throw in some Mahavishnu Orchestra or Weather Report for good measure, if you're going beyond "classic jazz".
