i mean its all nice talking about understanding and proceeding beyond, but you have to keep in mind all revolution has been caused by the violence and retribution of the mob.

first time i posted zeitgeist, reaction was pretty negative. funny to see it gaining so much ground on watmm lately.

Sometimes people have to want to open their eyes before they can see the truth staring them in the face.

The 2nd half of this video is literally the most IDM thing i've ever seen. It's like Spock and Richard became fuck buddies and came up with this concept over several latte's. Let's see who amongst us walks the walk.

It's not perfect obviously, but to describe the current situation as not perfect would be a teeny understatement.

After years of saying "I blame Wilson", and "This all goes back to 1913", while the vast majority of people look at me like I'm one of those crazy vagrants that mutters nonsensical thing to himself, I now simply say "meh". Mostly because I'm "over it", and realise there's nothing I can do about it... But it's nice to see some people are finally getting it.. and I no longer feel like one of those crazy vagrants that mutters nonsensical thing to himself.

hey don't want to be a total bummer but manipulative idealistic infotainment bores/irritates the fuck out of me so that first clip makes me not even want to watch the rest of it (personal bias). if there's a succinct text exposition I'm willing to read it though.

i second that notion.

is there a vast compendium of texts referenced in this zeitgeist?

i must say, i watched the first half and am intrigued, but would rather read it for myself.

btw, if anyone is interested in the details of the Guatemalan coup in the 1950's, read a book called Bitter Fruit....amazing, amazing book, and it has one of the most well founded and researched bibliographies I have ever seen....really hard for someone to defend the US on that one.

Here's a .pdf manual put together by Jacque Fresco (of the Venus Project) and Peter Joseph for the movement to reference to:

March 15th is a day where people worldwide are coming together to arrange presentations to audiences + meetings to demonstrate what the Venus Project promotes in terms of new ideas for society to look at and put into action at a grassroots level. You'll find a whole forum of people who share a common goal here:

Events:

Also, an NY presentation on March15th with Fresco and Peter Joseph as the hosts will be underway with a long Q and A session for people wanting to know more.

my boss just called me into his office and said that because of the stimulus package that was signed the other day, and the money we are going to get as a result (i work at a gov't lab, more than halfway through a temporary 2-year appointment), they will be able to keep me on until september 2010. i am hoping the job market will look at least a little better by then.

zeitgeist is nice and everything simply as a vehicle for questioning. they have a lot of evidence for their claims, but i often find that they make unreasonable leaps in logic and skew certain data.

plus their whole venus project thing is total bullshit. there is no way that level of cooperation would be achieved on any single continent let alone the world, plus all the existing political and economic structures are so diverse, varied and unfair. the infrastructure that would have to be built for such a scenario is completely impractical. washington itself is too much of a bureaucratic mess to decide just where to throw their piles of cash, with an increased gov't presence in many private fields. the only thing that would change that is a revolution, and we all know american's can't stomach a real armed conflict (that's why camera's aren't usually allowed in iraqi warzones).

gotta agree with critics of the zeitgeist stuff. It seems a pretty lopsided and selective presentation of things. For example, their emphasis on planned obsolescence is silly - there is an opposite push from the consumer for quality goods. Not to mention the fact that consumers often replace their appliances not because they break, but because they are fickle, image-conscious motherfuckers, and that will never change.

you really think that's why cameras arent usually allowed into warzones? No wonder that film wasn't your thing lol

i agree that you'd need some sort of revolution - that's the point. It would be a slow one though, combined with a collapse of the current system. That's happening.

Couldn't disagree with you more. The environment creates the need to constantly replace appliances otherwise people in the 20's would have been tearing their hair out because of the slow pace of change. You react to the current conditions, the end.

Although there may be a push from the consumer for quality goods, when you go to purchase an MP3 player or household appliance, do you know where that item was manufactured? What sort of materials + glues + plastics had been used during the processing of the item? How many times the item you are about to purchase has been tested for quality control under high temperatures/analysis reports of damage caused after falling onto a solid surface? You are not a specialist in manufacturing when it comes to being a typical consumer walking into a retail store. If I were the company selling the product, I would sucker you in big time with lies to get the item sold. How do you know if I'm telling the truth? > because remember that profit almost always comes before human concern.. Just one of many flaws the monetary systems perpetuates on a daily basis around the world.

What solution do you propose for the sake of humanity? Keep the present system going as it is?
