So I have some time to waste at work, and need a recommendation for a good read. Ive never really been big on on books, but to give you some idea of what I like - the only book Ive ever read which Ive become properly absorbed in is House of Leaves. Ive kinda enjoyed the Haruki Marukami books and and a bit of SciFi with Iain M banks.

Basically I like to read something deep and thought-provoking with a mysterious/surreal edge to it, whilst still maintaining a good narrative. Give it to me!

David Mitchell - Cloud Atlas

Basically a book that revolves around 6 different characters in 6 different periods of time. The best one for me:

An Orison of Sonmi~451

Nea So Copros (Korea), dystopian near future. Sonmi~451, a genetically-engineered fabricant (clone) server at Papa Song's diner, is interviewed before her execution after she rebels against the society that created and exploited her kind. The next character watches Sonmi's story projected holographically in an "orison," a futuristic recording device.

One of my favorite books, and I guess it is IDM

Jeff Noon - Vurt

Biopunk Surrealism

Ryu Murakami - Coin Locker Babies

Trashy, violent, thought provoking. Murakami burns japanese culture to the ground.

this book will be out in about a month and i definitely can't wait to read it.

it's called The City & The City by China Mieville

he is one of the BEST authors around today, and actually created a new genre called 'new weird' which combines sci-fi, fantasy and horror in an urban setting. he has a trilogy of books that are GREAT perdido street station, the scar, and iron council. the ending to the scar just blew my mind, i actually want to read it again now that i'm thinking about it haha..i actually need to get the books back from my friend...

also read this asap:
